I've been singing with my mom for years. Music was always a big thing in our family growing up. Company would come and the guitars would come out and we'd all sing. I've collected songs for her onto a playlist on KZfaq. It includes songs that my dad sang years ago (he's been gone almost 12 years now), songs mom loved on the radio, and songs she more recently has been enjoying. I get the ones that have the lyrics on the screen and the original singer singing. I can also slow them down so she can follow better or put the pitch up or down. She has been in the hospital for 2 weeks and is now home. We were singing with her a bit in the hospital, but I'll have to see how she does, now that she has declined, with this. We would sing for hours, I'm hoping she will do somewhat alright. It brings her a lot of joy and following the words is good for her brain.

To Hollie Glover Your presentations are inspirational. I listen to them over and over. I have a close friend with Alzheimer's...probably middle stage. You are so clear, calm and informational. I wish we lived closer to your facility. Everything you mention is happening with my friend. We are getting close to needing a caregiver for her. She was a vibrant, active driven woman. This is Hard for her and she is very frustrated. Thanks for all you offer. It is gratefully received and absorbed. Dianne San Carlos, CA

I’m using 16 piece puzzles. Start and finish with in 40 minutes. Also pretty and can feel the puzzles edges and separations. It’s worked well because her coloring wasn’t holding her attention.

I not sure how to help my dad .my mom got sick and has staph infection and trying to keep her in one place and my dad safe and secure as to not catch it and spread it to the rest of the house has really threw a wrench in our routine.he has gotten really angry and defiant.and if I am totally honest my patients are getting thin.so far we’re ok and I can see a light at the end of this .

Hi @kellihunter5047, that is hard! You must take care of yourself to keep up the energy and mental/emotional capacity of taking care of your parents. If you haven't already please get help from family, friends or an organization that can provide respite for you to help with the daily care tasks or keeping your Dad company for part of the day. Compassionate communication with your Dad is key. I imagine he is scared for his wife and trying to help in the way he knows how; validating and his feelings and giving him things he can do help her can possibly ease the emotional strain.
