I bought a bill mitchell block for my turbo charged max wedge built. The porosity in the main and cam bores covered about 15% of the surface, all of the threads had the peaks ripped out, and there was an entire 2"x1" chunk welded back onto the corner of the oil pan rail before it was machined. When I finally convinced him to accept a return he bitched about the orange paint marker I used to circle the welded area because he's just going to sell it to someone else. Bought a keith black block for $1000 more and it's leaps and bounds better in every aspect including customer support. One of the core plugs had a damaged thread, when I called them they sent an entire set free of charge

I have a block where the previous owner thought water was coming from a crack between sleeves in the deck. It turns out the sleeve slid down the bore reducing the fire ring compression, letting water and combustion gasses to mix. It's a simple fix. Now, my Steve Morris moment came when I was drilling out the oil passages from the oil gallery to the main bearing bores. I broke the end of the 12" drill off in the last hole I had to drill. I now need to fix both issues. The piece broke off is about 3" long. I tried to stick weld a welding rod to slide hammer it out, to no avail. Tried a couple of drill bit ideas, like diamond bits, but that didn't work. Now, I get to buy a long hard bit and use a mill to try and reduce the bit to iron dust. Moral of the story is to replace the drill bit on every engine. You aren't alone! We definitely do not need to take up flying!

Find a shop that can spark erode it. It's like reverse arc welding under water where the stuck bolt or drill bit is the electrode only it sparks off int bits in the water. I broke off a screw extractor in a broken exhaust stud in a diesel cylinder head.

Maybe yes and maybe no. When you get parts to assemble an engine it would seem that who ever installed the sleeves should have sent paperwork saying that they were installed and bottomed out in the block. If no paperwork then that should have been verified by Steve Morris Engines. If that is the only problem with this build then the owner of the engine should be thrilled and Steve learned a valuable lesson. Of course Steve will make it right.
