Life in the North of Canada is very special. Known for it's scenery and nature, it is a place that you need to discover. Yellowknife, the capitol city of Northwest Territories is one of the most unique cities you will ever see. Built on rocks, on the shores of the ninth largest lake in the world, the Great Slave Lake - you will not soon forget it's unique charm.

I never even knew of the existence of this town until a few years ago. A Canadian guy living here in the states told me he was visiting his family in Yellowknife up in Canada and I had no idea where this place was or why I've never heard of it.

Great video, brings back so many memories. I spent about 15 years in Yellowknife in the 70’s and 80’s, mostly living in Old Town directly across from Ragged Ass Road. I would look out my kitchen window while doing the dishes and occasionally spot a brave tourist trying to pry the street sign off from the pole. Eventually the city got smart and welded the sign in place, leaving notice that Ragged Ass Road signs could be purchased at city hall. Anyways, I miss being out on the frozen lake in the winter and just being amazed at the northern lights. And don’t get me started on the fishing!

When I lived in Gjoa Haven in the 90s and 2000s, my regular trips to Yellowknife were such a treat and I would jump with excitement every time I'd take the Darryl's shuttle from the airport to my hotel and looking at the "skyscapers" of downtown Yellowknife. I really miss my little town.

I watch the weather all throughout the year I live in Wisconsin USA and I laugh and show other people on Facebook just how darn coldly gets up there it's funny. So I just looked at the forecast for February 1st and it's funny the low tonight's gonna be -37 below 0 but tomorrow it's going to go up to a balmy heatwave of -27 below of a high That is hilarious we hear Wisconsin think when it's 4 below wow wow wow wow wow be careful I love this crap when we're just a bunch of wimps to those tough Northwest territory

Just got back from Yellowknife. I was in YK 4 hours ago, now back in Vancouver. On a tour to Cameron Falls, our guide highlighted the arsenic that is being threatened to be released due to the melting of permafrost. Crazy Vancouverite that I am, I went for a swim in Great Slave Lake. The water was not as cold as I initially thought it would be 😅

I worked summers, when I was a college student, at a smelter in Montana that would occasionally get a shipment of ore concentrates that arrived in small tin barrels that were marked "Yellowknife, Northwest Territories." That ore was so rich that it was kept in a building called the "high grade shack," and more than once I was told to just stay there for 8 hours to make sure no one took any of the stuff. So you-all up there must have been digging up some juicy sweet ore.

I was fortunate when I drove up there one winter some years back and got a chance to drive across that steep bridge across the Mackenzie river. That must've cost a mint build ? Going across the ferry would've been ok too. I wonder if the permafrost has warped the road much going into Yellowknife ? Must be a pain the butt for truckers with their semi's ! I must say driving into this metropolis in the middle of nowhere was an interesting experience !
