I auditioned for a trumpet position about 6 months ago and they told me I play alright, my piece was good, my scales were kind of iffy and my sight reading was a mess but the fact that I don't know enough Jazz is why they didn't put me through. I guess they needed a jazz trumpet player. It's all good though I'm going to audition once I re-enlist until then I'm going to keep practicing and finish MOS school to be a 1371 Combat Engineer OORAH!

Auditioning for this band really isn't easy... They removed the scales aspect, but you still have to audition for an audition. Prepare a few excerpts, record them and send them in via your recruiter, and then see if that recording was done well enough for them to call you in for sight reading. I've been playing the flute since I was 10 and I'm having a tough time getting my live audition tbh. Lol maybe I just suck 😂

Thank you for posting this video. I one day want to join the Marines to play music.

My goodness, some of the comments. Just proves some of you don't do your research. The division bands are Marines. They go through bootcamp, MCT, and other training. You are Marine if you pass boot camp. We all serve the same country.

I've played french horn for 9 years and I'm still horrendous at sight reading. I need time to study the sheet...

The audition process really was difficult. After I showed them my video for flute, they gave me 6 paragraphs of things I needed to work on. Then, they said that they'll give me 5 days until the live audition. At that point my soul left my body. I put in a total of 35 hours in the span of 5 days to be ready for that live audition. Luckily I made the audition. They said that they saw how much improved in the span of 5 day and how that shows I really care. So yes it's very difficult. But if you care enough, they'll take note of that and see what they can do for you.

is it really difficult to get in as a euphonium player? I'm 19 and I made 1st chair all state my senior year in highschool. I'm learning my minor scales right now but I pretty much have them down. I need to learn the melodic minor ones. Would this be something good to try out?

When you deploy can you work other jobs like, construction for camps and or building ACs for camps out in the fields? I would love doing that too instead of just going into battle.

@92reactor talk to a local recruiter he or she will be able to tell you what insturments are available. and no you dont need a degree, im a contract musician and im straight out of high school
@92reactor12 жыл бұрын
Even if you don't have a Bachelor's degree or Master's, can you still possibly be accepted into a field band? I know it would be better to have a college degree, but I'm just curious. Also, how can you tell that a band (besides the "Commandant's Own" and "President's Own") has vacancies in their band? Do you contact a recruiter?
@mrodwahoo884 жыл бұрын
92reactor if you visit their website(s), they’ll have information on upcoming vacancies, the music, and travel information

I read that playing in the Band really sucks, too much work, very little enjoyment from what I learned
@oscar98765438 жыл бұрын
+Bob Parker have you ever been forced to play a piece a music you really hate, to be made to play it over and over. It sucks, and that's what happens to alot of these guys, but that's just my experience and my opinion from my experience.
@AngryBaldCat8 жыл бұрын
There are going to be plenty of pieces in any musician's career that is going to suck. The majority of the field music I played as a French Hornist was nothing but offbeats..... boring. There was a bunch of pieces that I played in the concert band and the jazz combo and rock band that were very enjoyable. No job is sunshine and roses the entire time. Anyone that thinks that is in for a rude awaking. I work primarily as a vocalist and studio musician and play with several professional orchestras, and STILL get stuck playing boring pieces and singing genres I don't particularly enjoy... but that's the job. The good parts make being a professional musician worth it.
@oscar98765438 жыл бұрын
Holy Crap is that you from the video?! haha, and although you are very right about that. I will still try my damndest to never have to experience that again. That's the perks of owning your own band.
@AngryBaldCat8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's me in the video, 6 years ago. To this day there are things about the USMC band field I really miss, and then there are the parts that I'm like, "F!@# that shit."
@oscar98765438 жыл бұрын
I was on the fence about re-enlisting and trying out for the band. Then my friend sent me this video. And he was like, "see that Sgt, she's going to haze you cause you're going to be a band boot"lol And as soon as you said "Field" I was like heeellllll nooooo. So, you without knowing, help me decide on not re-enlisting. So thanks haha,

you are a Sgt in the Band very big difference from being a Sgt of MARINES
@ELKINKNIGHT9358 жыл бұрын
+0311pasqauly people in the band ARE Marines, moron
@0311pasqauly8 жыл бұрын
First of all dick face...They are Marines in name only, for the following reason: The Marine Band recruits experienced musicians; members are selected through a rigorous audition procedure and must satisfy additional security and physical requirements to be eligible. Selected band members serve under a four-year contract as active duty enlisted Marines and are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice and physical standards. They are the only members of the United States Armed Forces not required to undergo recruit training and do not perform combat missions. Also, they are not assigned to any unit other than the Marine Band. They do not go to BOOTCAMP !!!!!!! SO THEY NEVER EARNED THE TITLE IF YOU WERE A MARINE YOU WOULD NO THIS, SO SHUT YOUR COCK HOLSTER DUMB SHIT
@emilymahon55328 жыл бұрын
+0311pasqauly Marines in the band do go to bootcamp, the only musicians who do not go to bootcamp are the ones who are in the President's Own, which is different than the division bands. Yes, Marines in the band do have more lax standards for promotion, but they did earn their EGA at bootcamp with the rest of us.
@0311pasqauly8 жыл бұрын
Like I said big difference in being a sgt in the band and a sgt in the FMF
@emilymahon55328 жыл бұрын
You can't say that they're not Marines though, they went to bootcamp and they earned their EGA like every other enlisted Marine. There are a lot of MOS's that pick up extremely quickly, band just happens to be one of them
@chuckiepeoples5 жыл бұрын
Shouldn’t even be an MOS. Civilians should do this job. How do these people even get promoted? Complete waste of time and resources.
@anires11955 жыл бұрын
They want actual marines who passed training who also know how to play to be in these bands. They get promoted simply by how long they've been in the marine corps.
@donmcc65733 жыл бұрын
They get promoted the same as any other Marine. Time in grade, time in service, proficiency and conduct scores, pft score, completion of military education classes.
