Since this was made it’s got a hell of a lot worse for lads and staff. Nothing has changed. Inexperienced staff who are taken on because they’ve got a university degree zero life experience dealing with prisoners who have been in the system for years, clueless management, unable to get the basics, soap, toilet roll, bedding, 5-6 staff dealing with over 100 prisoners. It would be interesting for the film crew to return and see how bad it’s got.
@taras6806 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree with you; well stated. I don't know your perspective of course, mine is a legal representative therefore no access to 'behind the scenes' matters but my clients painted good pictures. People seem to forget that prisons ultimately only operate with the consent of the prisoners; may sound strange but consent usually tacit and consider how much the staff numbers are outweighed by inmate numbers. I have found staff to be, well, incompetent, and had personally to provide the basic goods for my clients. Guilty or not, in this society prison - deprivation of liberty - is itself the punishment and should go no further than that.
@hochiminh1313 Жыл бұрын
@@taras6806 I’ve got 20 years in the job, and you’re right, it runs on a strange type of respect, many of the lads I’ve locked up on a loop for years, you get to know them, that’s where the life experiences come in, a black and white shirt doesn’t buy respect, it’s earned mutually.
@taras6806 Жыл бұрын
@@hochiminh1313 I love your response - 'a strange type of respect' is exactly it. I don't think quite frankly I would have the ability to be in your shoes, I simply don't have the 'hands-on' experience as you clearly do. You're the person, to whom our justice/prison secretaries of state should be listening. My father, who was like me a lawyer before he became a judge, and was also (again I took after him in this) a prison visitor said of the mutual respect. Strangeways showed what happens in its absence and that is a mere one well-knonwn example. You are clarly good at your job.and a decent person. I know some prison officers (off my Xmas card list shall we say) who refer to the prisoners as 'vermin'. I dread to think how they are. It is good to have prison staff like you and interesting that you say 'you get to know them' - not everybody takes the time. Absolutely respect is mutual in as outside prison walls. Thank you for your comments borne of experience, so much appreciated. (Oh ps I had a crush on a chap in a YOI when I was 14-looking-20 and at his request took some weed in for him. If I had been caught my career would not have happened. We all do stuff not entirely sensible.... 😆
@hochiminh1313 Жыл бұрын
@@taras6806 oh dear! We all do daft stuff! 🤣 in response to your comment, I’m classed as a ‘dinosaur’ I’m seriously disliked by management as I’m straight talking as I am with prisoners, if I say I’m going to do it I will or tell them I can’t on the spot, governors steer visitors away from me 😂 to give you an idea of what staff are up against, I had a governor tell me to unlock a landing with opposing gang members on as she wanted them to mix together as it wasn’t right that they wanted to kill each other. Clearly I didn’t for obvious reasons, after speaking to the lads she then demanded they had their enhanced iep status removed as they weren’t complying with what she wanted. Yes. Read it again if you need to. These people live in a parallel dimension to reality. Back to lack of understanding, knowledge and life experiences.
@taras6806 Жыл бұрын
@@hochiminh1313 What you say suprises me not one iota. From my experiences many of the officers (thankfully current 'company' excepted!) enjoy their jobs as they feel like demi-gods. IHEartLReoy prison is a place for people to reform not for them to suffer (unless they’ve committed atrocities). Just because they’re in prison doesn’t mean they’re not people. 3 days for them to do something about an injured person is aweful, especially when they’re well aware that they’re injured.
@ghoulofthebeat49466 жыл бұрын
IHEartLReoy people make mistakes, that's what makes us human. Murderers, rapists and pedos deserve to rot however that doesnt make up an entire prison. There are hundereds of people in prison that wouldnt hurt a soul. To say someone is subhuman because they made a bad decision is pure bullshit.

This jail seams nicer then ones in America. Bigger cells. They can have normal clothes. Ect
@someonegetsteve7 жыл бұрын
Not surprising. America is the most imprisoned society in the developed world. 1% of the adult population is CURRENTLY in the prison system. About 10% of all American adults have been through the prison system. With Trump in, he wants to get tough on crime even though violent crime is at a historic low and the system was on the verge of reforming.He'll end that and put even more in prison. UK, China, and most other countries incarcerate 150 out of 100,000 people. The US is about 6 times that.

I'm a child psych ward patient and even though we are just kids the same stuff happens whether it's alarms,kicking off,restraints,self harm,fights,swearing,screamig,attacks so bad I've seen staff break bones in restraints. I was there for an eating disorder at 9,10,11 and 12 years old and it seems very similar although yes I know "prison is worse" but that doesn't mean the same things happen. Its crazy and incredibly traumatising stuff I could NEVER explain to mainstream people.

I was 16 and I was retrained to a bed and a security guard continually pressed down on my knee cap every time I screamed which made me scream more and then he got removed from the room after screaming at me I was half naked with anyone who walked past could see me retained and half naked they gave me some injection which made my muscles stiffen up while I was in restraints and I couldn't talk properly, later a doctor took my blood and he couldn't get a needle in they tried both arms, hands, and one of my foot before a nurse took my blood quickly from my right arm and I was in the restrains for what felt like 6 hours but my mum who later came to the hospital said I was there for 2 hours in restraints before she came and they took them off ended up talking to the head of the hospital with a formal complaint with my doctor and they said sorry he was just doing his job I am now just about to turn 20 and I can still feel my neck stiffen up and my knees hurting everytime I think of this memory
@cottonballandbells76058 ай бұрын
@@Datbirb0 wow I'm sorry about that, I also got hurt in restraints but I was very weak so they didn't need to give me and tranq / booty juice but if I were you I'd try and get them in trouble, I want to get my hospital in trouble bc of the patients being abused by the staff but typical cqc believes their lies.. anyway hope ur ok.

The sad thing about prisons is I've seen young lads go in no drug addiction and within a month there hooked on drugs, people ask why? Well try 23.5hrs in a cell for months on end try taking a shit in front of your pad mate or watch your pad mate cut himself up, it ain't no holiday camp like the media talk about, suicides happen regular fights daily you either stand up for yourself or its game over. Prisons need to change there's some good officers but majority of them are corrupt and twist u up. There's NO rehabilitation inside.
