Spoiler: Life is Strange 4 is a sequel from after Max chose to save Chloe over Arcadia Bay. It's highly likely that Jefferson - throghout the game - will finally be perceived as the true hero. The Prescotts hired Jefferson to catch the time traveler who will destroy Arcadia Bay. It was hinted in a deleted audio recording that Nathan was screaming: "I know that the storm will come", hinting that Nathan had time travel powers. If you can remember, in the Bonus episode in Before the Storm, where we play as young Chloe and young Max, at the end of this bonus episode Chloe plays an audio recording of Max, and it was heavily implied that it was future Max - who time traveled back - to make that recording, hinting that Max will time travel back one last time to save Arcadia Bay and fix the ending

Since we can choose the ending of the first game, I think it would make the most sense to have Chloe die in this game. I can't see how max and Chloe wouldn't be by each others side if Chloe is alive.

I'm hoping that the little snippit of text for the choice isn't a direct take of what Max will say because some of the choices in LiS where not direct takes of the actually dialogue or are elaborated on in the actual dialogue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the "were" is just pointing at the fact that they are no longer highschool sweethearts because they're no longer teenages but that they are still in touch. (hopefully still together. Maybe long distance for whatever reason?). But I understand your fear. They did say there was no canon ending to LiS 1 and that they will be respecting players choice at the end of the first game so lets hope they truly do and don't cop out and kill Chloe in the interim between the 2 games (in the case of bae over bay). One can only hope. Even if we only get subtle references to Chloe I'm hoping that if you chose bae over bay that they really do respect that and that Chloe is alive and well even if not actually present. We'll have to see. 🤞 Edited to add: Also technically there were 2 major choices made in LiS 1. One being whether you kissed Chloe (therefore indentifying her as a love interest) or whether you chose to not kiss her (so friendzoned her). The other being if you sacrifice her or Arcadia Bay. Both of these choices are not mutually exclusive so it's possible to choose to kiss her but also sacrifice her meaning that even though they were only together for a week future Max might still consider them "highschool sweethearts" so the little snippit we see might be based on a previous discussion point where players reiterate weather they sacrificed her or the bay so this might be a follow up question after saying that she died (you sacrificed her) hence the use of past tense. There might be a different phrasing if you reiterate that you chose to sacrified the bay and those responses might use present tense and perhaps maybe even entirely different.

Were does NOT equal dead. It can just mean they broke up or drifted apart. It happens in life. Plus choosing her over saving SO MANY lives could have messed Max up mentally. So its no wonder if the relationship couldn't hold. Plus Chloe seemed on a bad path when we caught up to her again. Like she did pot, smoked, had alcohol, and the stressful junkyard scene where we stopped Chloe from k×lling herself by telling her where to aim the g×n?? I could appreciate that he Father was an ab×sive d×ck who was secretly recording their family so she was acting out due to her not having a safe home space to deal with her girlfriend "going missing". It could've been easy to picture just because they solved everything and Max saved Chloe didn't mean it was gonna end in happily ever after. Change is hard. Especially people who don't want to change or fell into addictions to cope. I can't imagine your bestie/gf k×lling an entire town for you + your ex-gf was m×rdered did too well for Chloe's mental health...

It probably depends on what ending you choose. I think if you choose the Save Chloe ending we probably won't get a "were" we will get a "are" and Max will explain the situation. Instead of pictures Max would receive text and phone calls from Chloe. I think due to Max possibly being in college they either broke up or separated but still dating since Chloe couldn't go with her.

I have a theory. In the beginning of the game, you start in the universe where Chloe dies in Arcadia bay, and when you go to save safi you go to the universe where Chloe is alive. I think at the end, you may have to chose between saving Chloe or safi.

It’s always difficult bringing a possible dead character back to the main storyline. They might be only at the end or never comeback. There’s so many game that do like this. But I hope Life is Strange is different. I hope she comeback not just being a cameo because parallels power seem to be the possible way that both timelines can play in the main storyline. But even tho if game she doesn’t comeback but if there’ll be a next Max Caulfield Game, I okay.

Warren may have possibly died in the hurricane. In the save Chloe timeline Joyce Price died, so Warren and Frank who were hiding with her could have also been casualties.

The fact that you can confirm in a choice that Chloe and Max were together is awesome, either they’ll bring Chloe back for the ending (I personally don’t believe she’ll show up early or the end since it ruin the Dynamic between Max and her new friend and possible Love interest) or they make a bonus episode dedicated to Max and Chloe reuniting but either way I’m excited for this game.

I think it depends on the endings of the first game. Personally if we picked highschool sweethearts that would mean that chloe the chloe that we fell for is dead. Making the sentence “We were highschool sweethearts” all more heartbreaking.

Given the photo of her blue haired self I’m guessing this is the Choose Chloe timeline. If you pick the Choose Arcadia timeline maybe the photo will be replaced with an older photo of Chloe when they were kids, before William Price died, as if Max let Chloe die there’d be no opportunity to take any photo’s of the blue haired Chloe.

Unpopular opinion, although I love Chloe a lot as she is my 3rd fav character of entire series. I don’t rlly want her to appear in this game cause realistically I feel like they would just split apart because they r all grown up and your not gonna have the same company around forever. Plus it’s nice to see Max who was quite awkward and reserved and only had few friends go on a journey alone which will make it interesting because Chloe and max worked together. This is just my opinion, me not wanting Chloe in this game does not mean I hate her character as I said I love her, I just think it’s better for both of them and realistic

Here's how I would handle Chloe if I were the director and I wanted to write Chloe out of this story: For those who chose to sacrifice the town and save Chloe, I'd have Max relive a flashback scene in game where she and Chloe get in a major argument. Chloe would ultimately leave Max because she didn't want to be reminded that her life cost the lives of so many others every time she looked at Max. It would be a very dramatic and emotional scene, but it would be satisfying to the original fans. For those who chose to sacrifice Chloe and save the town, I'd have Max relive a flashback scene in game where Max and Chloe enjoyed each other's company, perhaps even in an intimate way. Max would shed a tear at the loss of her most cherished friend. In BOTH cases, I would show Chloe and Max interacting. The alternative would be to just have a passing comment discarding Chloe as a character. This wouldn't be as fulfilling to fans of the original game. It would feel cheap and disrespectful.

@@lordboreal137 The point OP was making, is that "Double Exposure" will have us play through 2 different Timelines - which in turn could allow the Developers to make it so in one Chloe is dead and in the other she's alive. You wouldn't have 2 different games, because this is already how the game will function. On top of that, the developers already said, that - at the beginning of the game - there will be a conversation that will let us pick which ending for LiS1 we want to follow.

I was thinking about this,now we all know that the directors of the game said that they respect people’s choices but they never talked about Chloe,so what I’m guessing is in either of these choices she is dead bc we all have different opinions and for some reason Chloe dies almost 5 times and max saves her so why would u sacrifice her in the end? But I am thinking also that maybe she is dead in her universe but alive in the other or possibly they left their friendship and went to their separate ways however here is the point in the choices when safi asks it says we were it implied that it was in the past that she is dead or they left each other like I said but we all know she is mentioned in the game but appearing??? I don’t think so….as they said they respect both choices so they could either add her and I hope they do but I don’t think so unfortunately which upsets me

While I am hoping that Chloe makes a much larger appearance in the game, be it a phone call or a physical appearance, I am willing to accept that things may have not worked out between them if they did indeed become a couple. Keep in mind that it’s been 10 years between the first game and this new one. A lot can happen, especially considering what they’ve both been through.

Why do we always have to ruin endings? Why does Luke Skywalker have to act depressed on an island, why does Indiana Jones have to be a sad and lonely divorcee in a squalid apartment, why does Ector have to die alone like a dog? Why can't Max and Chloe end up like the original authors had intended? it's a story about time travel and the multiverse. It doesn't need to be realistic.

Not really. Whoever you chose to ronance in LiS1, the canon relationship is between Max and Chloe - the only difference is the Ending itself.

The fact the option of the answer is "We were" shows me 2 outcomes; firstly; chloe died while max choose arcadia to save (ending 1) [max keeps photo as memoria of chloe] secondly; chloe survived while arcadia wasnt saved (ending 2) [chloe died regardless or cut ties with max] but maybe something else, cant wait to find out

Not necessarily. It’s not likely, but it is possible that prior to that question, that you are given choices about Max and Chloe. It’s actually possible that Chloe could be Max’s wife and is out of town.

Gonna be 100% honest. It says in the beginning that they want to honor both endings of the games… we see in lis2 that the “sacrifice Arcadia bay” ending was canon in the current universe… We’ve honored the “sacrifice Arcadia bay” ending. I’m 98% sure that this game is going to be set in the “sacrifice Chloe” ending… that’s the ONLY reason why Chloe wouldn’t be with max. Also in lis2 at the end we see max and Chloe together- Chloe with green hair this time and older. Why would max be dragging around a picture of Chloe BEFORE their “happily ever after”. Max is looking at the photo with sadness and longing. If her and Chloe had SPLIT do you think max would really be lugging around a photo of before they were officially together? I’m thinking it’s more likely this is the “sacrifice Chloe” ending- and since it’s supposed to be max swapping between realities. I’m convinced that Chloe might be alive in that alternate reality and max might see her- see what she could have had. That would be a major plot twist.

my hope is that Chloe encouraged Max to take this position at the university but for whatever reason couldn't join her so they're long distance. One can hope! 🤞 I'd love to see cute texts from Chloe throughout the game if you chose to save her in LiS 1. That would be so cute!

I still love life is strange but I don’t get why they moved away from the episodic format. So much hype gets built that way. Releasing the whole game at once is kinda lame because people will be finished with the WHOLE GAME in a day. In a month, people will forget about it.
