Easy mistake to make ! We all know how hard to spot 120 tons of fluorescent yellow tram is, blaring its horn while you’re in its way on the track

As a tram driver, it's not easy to be involved in such accidents..... It's traumatizing even just a near miss.... We have to compose ourselves immediately before resuming movement.

Nothing else they can do, a friend of mine who works the coal trains told me once “if there’s something on the tracks all you can do is slam on the emergency breaks, blast the horn, close your eyes and hope you don’t feel a hit” a fully laden coal train has a 2+ km stopping distance when it’s cruising along open track.

They have to prepare themselves for the drivers antics. They also have to make mental notes for the situation report they would undoubtedly have to write up at the end of their shift.

I feel bad for tram drivers because most accidents aren’t their fault and one idiot’s reckless behavior will scar the tram driver for life.
@josephd.27252 жыл бұрын
I mean, it can't be the tram driver's fault unless they break a light, they're on tracks! It's people driving cars who turn into them or get on the tracks. A tram is 10 to 20 times heavier than a car. It's no contest.

How do you turn into the side of a moving tram?
@josephd.27252 жыл бұрын
It's amazing how many people don't do shoulder checks or even look in their mirrors before making a move. Clearly they should be forced to do their driving test again to get their licence back. That is if the tram hasn't made a pancake out of them.

Many people aren't like us. They don't feel the urge to look before they are going places. Stuff is just going slower in their heads. Some also don't care and think they own road, therefore others will wait and let them pass.
