The best, sweetest and kindest flight attendant I have ever encounter was a lady from British Airways. Flying with 2 little kids on my own is always so stressful and I have a lot of anxiety before boarding and on my flight. I think she noticed it and came to help me with fastening their seat belts, bringing the kids pack and during meal times, she always served my children first. I regret not knowing how to write compliment letters back then when I was younger, I would have definitely written to British Airways about her great working attitude, patience and kindness towards her passengers.

Yepp, for a domestic/regional airlines which flight hours take less than 2 hours, the flight attendants might have 4-5 flights for a day.. Once I made a return trip in one day, in the morning and the evening with the same airlines, and to my surprise, it was the same plane, and when I got onboard, it's also the same flight attendant team... So I asked their schedules, and that day, they already had 5 flights, and this return flight would be the last of the day.. (my morning flight was at 8am, and my return flight was at 5pm)
@Caitydid5612 жыл бұрын
I thought that was what it was. Knowing how short those flights can be (for example, I live in Sacramento; from here to San Francisco is a 25-30 minute flight), I'm not surprised some flight attendants might have that many flights per day.

As a Singapore Airlines crew, we don’t do standbys at our airport. Since Singapore is so small, we just have standby duties at home and need to report to the airport in a short time frame. Interesting to see that some have to go to the airport and park themselves there for standby duties.

What if you get stuck in traffic?
@foodmore2 жыл бұрын
@@anastasiaguseva9847 it’s quite hard to get stuck in traffic. Our country is really small. End to end by car takes at most 30mins. And if there is traffic probably 1hr max. Anyway standby activation is also based on distance, if they need a crew last min they will activate those staying nearer to the airport. If they have time (few hours to a day) they might activate those that stay further and save those that stay nearer for last minute call ups.
@anastasiaguseva98472 жыл бұрын

I flew Dubai to Auckland once, from boarding to disembarking was 16 hours so crew probably had 18 hours on the plane. I know they get breaks during the flight but that was tiring enough for me as a passenger. We literally left Dubai on Thursday late morning and arrived in Auckland about the same time Friday.

Flying multiple flights a day must depend on the routing. I worked at the YUL Airport as an AC gate agent and often control the YUL - YTZ flights where the crew did back and forth this route multiple times a day. At the same time, this route is like 1hour long too. Same thing with YUL - YQB.

Five flights a day might be a regional airline. That FA's uniform and the livery on the seats make me guess she's on something Delta, so she could either be Delta mainline on a domestic line for the day or she could be on a regional like mine, SkyWest. I've done five legs in one day, it's more exhausting than it sounds.
@godzlegendz2 жыл бұрын
You pretty much have to assume that’s the case, there aren’t 50 hours a day. Still, it’s hard to picture. NY to Cali is still 6 hours. NY to Chicago is 2 hours and a half. I’m not sure how 5 flights would work, do you just get scheduled to states that are close together? What about downtime? There are flights that are delayed so shouldn’t they be spaced apart? Or are you just expected to work for 24 hours and nap for an hour or two? I know Jennie mentioned that flight attendants have their space but between having to serve passengers and sharing the space with other flight attendants on a short flight, how much sleep can you really get?

As a former flight attendant, hearing you're in "flight school" makes me nervous. Maybe it's different in different countries, but where I'm from, flight schools are scams :S Any airline hiring you will put you through their own training.
@teehee57002 жыл бұрын
@@NsTheName really? can I get more information because I'm thinking about becoming a flight attendant and im also 16
@NsTheName2 жыл бұрын
@@teehee5700 I can really only answer for America. If you're an American, don't bother with flight school. It will actually hurt your chances with a real airline because you'll have to "unlearn" all the stuff the flight school fed you. Just apply to as many airlines as you can and hope to get an interview. It's a really tough industry to enter. If you happen to know a flight attendant, they can send you a link to apply through as a recommendation. This can help. Think of reasons for why you'd make a good flight attendant and how you will benefit their airline. Don't talk about how you love to travel; that's a given. They want to know why they should hire you over every other applicant.

The airline I used to work for could fly you 10 times a day! Granted, those were shorter flights ie SLC to IDA, but still. Exhausting. I remember my first time ever in LAX someone came to ask me for directions to baggage claim. Lol. I looked up at the sign and said, "baggage claim is in that direction."
@tiffanyrupp82522 жыл бұрын
For the airline I used to work for we called it Ready Reserve. (Also more affectionately known as airport appreciation). Generally the first 'shift' was 6-2 and the next was 2-10. But this varied depending on when or first planes left and our last planes came in. I generally preferred the morning reserve because we got to watch the sun rise in a public location that not many people know of. (MSP)

Once a crew flew out trying to open the door & stood hanging with the door handle while the ground staff tried to rescue her🙈 If not opened properly, the wrist can also be sprained... Damn... The commands😂 The training & refreshers were crazy... It's funny to hear the commands after almost a decade of quitting 🤗❤️

Municipal Transit Operators [also known as Bus Drivers] have standby shifts as well, in case a replacement is needed. Some of them hate it, because it's so boring sitting around waiting for the call. Others love it because you're being paid to not work, hang out at the depot, chat with your fellow operators, drink coffee, snack, play cards, read, do your nails, etc. etc.

We get trained on how to stop traffic successfully (cause some of y'all don't want to stop), we learn different scenarios, etc. There is a book but it's only base line there is so much out there on the road that situational.
