A large area of Canada was covered by a strong snowstorm.
An unexpected winter storm stretches 3,000 km and wreaks havoc from coast to coast.
In Quebec, the storm on Friday left monstrous traces in its strength.
A record number of emergency calls, breakdowns, surges and millions of dollars worth of damage.
On Friday morning, a sudden frost swept through the region, the precipitation was replaced by snow and accompanied by strong winds.
Wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h recorded at Quebec airport.
With over 3,000 calls received, the line received almost three times as many calls as on a typical day.
In Quebec, more than 240 thousand people were left without electricity.
The storm caused massive damage to the roads.
Recorded 27 accidents caused by the storm.
The Department of Transportation has closed highways in the regions of Abitibi-Themiscaming, Chaudhière-Appalach, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, the metropolitan area, and Estri.
There was also a river flood in the Dalhousie Street sector.
The storm disrupted holiday travel plans for thousands as airlines preemptively canceled flights, anticipating further disruptions.

Does anyone remember the snow storm of 1976? We were snowed in for three days, the snow storm of 1978, the ice storm of 1998 in Montreal, the snow storm of 2014. This is Canada, it is supposed to snow in the winter. Hunker down and enjoy the peace and quiet. Merry Christmas everyone.

In 1971 in Montreal we had 4 feet in 24 hours. It was a blast. We lived in a bungalow and had to shovel off our roof. I was 10 and we could jump off the roof into 3-4 feet of snow. And the snow forts we’d go in them at night with candles and it was so cool. And the air always smells great in winter especially when it snows. Enjoy. I prefer summer but winter is certainly interesting lol. Don’t go anywhere in bad weather if you’re not comfortable. Just stay in.

Parts of Quebec had a storm. Montreal had a wet snow at night/Friday morning which had mild temperatures and then it rained lightly from 8 to noon on Friday and them it rained a lot more when it was 7-8C and Saturday was cold. They cancelled last day of school (xmas parties, gift exchanges, etc) and just like cancelling Halloween a few years ago, it looked again like an overreaction. No surprises though because the weather channel prediction was right on the money with their 12, 24, 48hr snowfall forecast. So seeing their prediction of 7-8 cm one day and 2-3cm and Friday was going to be 8C just wasnt scary even though media kept blaring "Storm to bring 50cm to Quebec". The previous week, we had more snow but nothing big and the media were saying to have extra food and batteries for some reason. It sucks for people in regions where it snowed but check regularly on different weather apps, they help you follow Your regional forecast and less a global one.

My Aunt from Sydney used to visit us in Montreal in our winter because she couldn’t stand the heat in the Aussi summer. That’s a switch now. Lol.

Decades sounds like a long time when you are only 20 or 30 years old. The term decades can mean just 20 years. This is nothing new and last I checked there's something that seems to happen every year. It's called WINTER!

SLOW DOWN.!!! TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS.!!! CHECK WEATHER BEFORE TRAVEL. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAVEL TO SEE FAMILY JUST BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS.! YOUR LIFE IS MORE VALUABLE THAN TRAVELING WITH THE SHEEP IN POOR VISIBILITY.

How was the storm unexpected? As it came up through the US I don’t think there’s much of a surprise. The storm was not unexpected with anybody with common sense.

Life didn't stop and we had two weeks notice. Did people assume the road's could be kept up? Some idiots did, but those tend to assume their actions should naturally be supported.

Life does not stop in Canada for a snow storm and besides not having electricity here in Quebec for five days life goes on as usual. For all of us Canadians winter comes with the territory. Thanks for the end of the world warning like title though, quite entertaining.
