What separates the older musicians from today’s generation - apart from talent - is how articulate they are and, added to that, they actually have something interesting to say.

The most enduring thing about watching the Moodies in concert is seeing Justin all serious while John next to him is having a ball on stage. Thank you, John Lodge, most sincerely.

I met John before a 1983 concert in St. Paul. I was pleasantly surprised how cordial and friendly we was. He didn't have his nose stuck in the air like many other rock and roll musicians.

Candle of Life was my route into the music of the Moody Blues....it of course was the B side of the song Question which was my first purchase of the Moodies... I loved Question, but Candle directed to purchase the album from which it came... This was the beginning of purchasing all Moody Blues albums....Never Have I grown tired of Candle of Life... Beautiful song...

I had the privilege and pleasure to meet John March 4th, 2020 in Hartford Ct, just before the Covid restrictions started to take effect. What an absolute gentleman. He was so very patient and accommodating to those of us who had purchased the VIP/photo-op tickets to that night's solo show. A framed photo and ticket stub is prominent on my living room wall.

So grateful that the auto industry in Birmingham went flat, the neighbor boy's mom sold the guitar, the encounter with Ray Thomas happened at age 14, Decca didn't get it, the Sunburst... there's that Sunburst... I could go on and on. I can't imagine living my life in any meaningful way without the incredible catalog of music that is The Moody Blues, and the pairings and solo careers of them all. Thank you thank you.

I used to be a marketing photographer for Disney and met John Lodge at a celebrity golf tournament where I was to photograph the late and great Joe DiMaggio, who was the star celebrity of the tournament. In Joe's foursome was this very nice, good looking, rock star kind of guy. I knew him but couldn't place him. He kept smiling the whole time but said very little as Joe was the big star of the event. I kept looking at this rock star like man and thought to myself, I know this guy! After the days event, I went back to the Photography department (we used to be in the tunnel under the Magic Kingdom) and I thought a while, who was that good looking Brit? At some point I realized that the rock star guy was John Lodge. I must say all he did was smile the entire 18 holes and was a perfect gentleman. Nicest guy in the world and I hung with him for 18 holes. One of my best memories when I worked for Disney.

A lot of musicians come across as if they are ego tripping while performing on stage. However, get them off the stage and they are humble and cordial. Maybe it's just a confidence they have on stage that makes them stand out. John Lodge (whom I've never met) in this regard, is like a great many I have met. Great bassist/musician/person!
