I was born in 1963, as a kid and young man nearly every working class man or woman looked much older than they were. It always makes me laugh seeing the rose tinted spec brigade comment about how much better it was back then compared to now and I agree in terms of it was a slower pace of life and in certain ways simpler but for the working class it was stressful in many other ways and the amount of money they could make was much less than the working class now. Just go down a street of working class people now and see how many cars are on the street or huge flat screen TV’s in the front room windows. I grew up on a council estate and in the late sixties I think I knew three people on that estate who owned a car and pretty much all of us either had no TV or rented a small B&W set. Electric and gas was paid for by coin meters and I never had new clothes or shoes until I reached my teens. It was in truth a much much harder life back then. Having said all of that I do miss the peace and slower pace.

Don’t be so sure. Our world is de globalizing. In a generation, those countries that don’t have the resources they use internally, will be in for a major regression to the bad old days. The worst part is, the 1st world is no longer populated by men, but boys. It’s gonna be fun to watch.

Fred has been wanted to be re watched by so many people in the last few years, especially the last two (COVID). I honestly believe we (99% men) are missing something or even yearning for something we used to know? Certainly the strange times we're in today would make anyone want something safe and ordered.

I just came across a series of edited clips of Fred Dibnah which includes scenes from this series, but the clips appear to have been recorded from the UKTV History channel as there's a UKTV History logo at the top left. So it means that this series has been repeated since 1995 but on a different channel, and UKTV History started in 2002 and was named that until 2009.

No spoilt brats them days glued to their smartphones, Switches and tablets unlike most kids today, including mine sadly where the parents just let em do what they want and then they ha ve their child told they have ADHD or some other made up crap. I think these devices are making kids aggressive too because their still developing brains can't deal with all the information that they're watching.

Abit off topic, but I read an article the other day from the Liverpool Echo dated 25 July 1988 where it said Fred was banned for 12 months for drink driving over the limit and at 30mph. Apparently he been driving his Land Rover in Liverpool shortly after pulling down a chimney. It's the first time I've heard about this, strange no mention of this in any of the Fred Dibnah series.

at least theres still abit o grafting going on, the buildings are all the same and havent been "developed". The lad that now owns the place is a nice fella and grew up just down the road from fred, he had no problem with me and a mate having a look around a couple of weeks ago. The shaft is still there and the house looks the same, its a pity the previous owner Leon sold all the workshop equipment, heartless sod!

It’s really sad his kids ended up selling that magnificent steam roller only 5 years after his death to cash in £££🥴🥴. I heard that 3rd witch wife of his was demanding money as Fred cut out all his wives from the will. So they ended up selling this steam roller for 100k. If I was fred I would have left the entire state to his friends at the steam engine club / charity. His kids didn’t deserve a penny of it.
