Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing the Chaos Space Marine Legion The Emperor's Children. As we debate and discuss the surprising struggles the legion faces within it's warbands.
Spoiler Warning to begin as the events we're discussing today are from the Warhammer 40,000 novel "Lord of Excess" by author Rich McCormick. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself!

@@charleswacker7166The stories of the martyrs of Istvaan are cool because it was a hopeless last stand. By making their deaths mean something you make their stories worse. Rylanor’s story works because a spiteful dreadnought sacrificed everything, abandoned his post, to slight a demigod. He died alone and unknown, but he found purpose in his worthless death. That’s a cool story. But make him LoD? Now that death means something? Boring. Rylanor’s reward should just be his vengeance. . Ferrus is the same way. He lived and died by his philosophy, his ideals of strength and it got his head chopped off. His actions cannot be rewarded

I would imagine the life of a slave in service to the Emperor's Children runs the gamut from abject abuse to overwhelming luxury. It honestly depends what the slave is being used for. Some would be beloved pets, genetically engineered specimens of biological perfection born from chemical vats while others would be overworked thralls that exist in a state of constant misery.

I was always under the impression that the traitors just cast off into the warp, and allowed it's currents to lead them wherever it will like a hulk traveling through the warp which made their attacks incredibly hard to predict.

Ive been thinking what if the chaos gods didnt want the god emperor killed they wanted him yo assend to god hood so he could join the great game and make it more fun for them forever by adding in a real space aspect besides just the endless timeless warp

Also another thought over 10k for real space only a century for war bands such as the exalted and they call them others thin bloods and not warring for 10k years yet other war bands have clearly accounted for war records of centuries of continuous conflict I find odd

And I mean to say that they reference a 10k war with only 100 in real time or best account they have is 100 years so any legion l/chapter out of the warp fighting has more actual experience in the current conflict ie: a ww2 vet with a year of service coming to modern times and saying your 10 years mean nothing because mean nothing due to scale I think time and reference are actually appropriate for that point just a thought point

Seeing the mention of Navigators in Chaos makes me wonder what happens to World Eater ships. World Eaters do hate psykers, but they would need some form of warp magic to navaigate the warp, transmit messages, and open rituals to summon demons. I’d like to see how this is handled in a future novel

That’s also kind of strange because their are psykers of khorne and it’s not that khorne dose not like magic like for transport. They just don’t like magic like Tzeench uses it, cowardly. Not to mention the only reason the world eaters don’t like psykers is because it messes with the nails. Like for example when someone summons a demon they use magic or when they coat a sword in warp fire, khorne does not mind that.
