I’m astounded by how often they mentioned Italy, cause I’ve been to Italy a couple of times and we don’t look, nor are we similar to Italians…. People from Spain, Portugal, and Greece are more similar to Italians, they look like each other and their cultures are more aligned. Hell I’d even say that Italians are even more similar to Germans (or any other European country) than Iranians. Iranians and Italians definitely don’t have much in common, other than height maybe.

Honestly let’s be realistic here. They’re can be Iranians that look similar to Italians and Germans, but that’s not the majority. Even the people speaking in the video didn’t look like Italians what so ever. It’s a big misconception to think Italians are tanned skin with dark features. A lot of them are like that but have more lighter European features as well. Iranians are very similar to Azerbaijanis, Afghans, Tajiks, and Iraqis. Culture: Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan … Also I believe culture depends on which ethnic group you are part of. Azaris have more common with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Persians have more similarity with Afghanistan/Tajikistan. Kurds with Turkey/Iraq. Balochis with Pakistan/Afghanistan. Arabs with Iraq. Those who say Iranians are similar to germans and Italians live in the clouds ( also disrespectful that you would compare the warm and open culture of Iran to the cold and distant culture of Europeans). Historically the closest ones should be Azerbaijan - followed by Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. However, it must be said Iran is the oldest continues nation in the world and its culture is probably the most unique in the globe.

I would love to watch video you asking people about Tajikistan as we speak same language. It’s quite interesting what people in Iran know about this country. I was questioning some of Iranians about it and unfortunately they don’t have an idea(especially younger generation 🙁) that there’s country where people speak Farsi. That fact that some Iranians still think we are close relatives to people of Germany is in fact rooted in pre-WW2 mindsets of Europeans. It was in fact Germans who first used the very Iranian term "Aryan" for calling themselves. The term Aryan was first mentioned in Stone Scripts of Persian Achaemenids as "Arya". German orientalists took advantage of Iranian heritage to embolden their own civilization.

Unfortunately there is a deep insecurity and inferiority complexes in younger Iranians. When I was studying in UK my girlfriend was an Iranian, she always wanted to be white European, Although I am Slav extract but I had many friends from different nationalities, when they invite us to their special days and parties my Iranian girlfriend always attend if they were white Europeans, if they were Asian or African she always finds and excuse not to go. Eventually I fed up and got rid of her.

im an iranian and ill be completely honest about this video. the reason why many of them say they look like italians is because they want to be identified as them. its obvious that we look like our neighboring arab and south asian countries. but they dont admit this because iranians look down on the middle-east and view themselves foolishly superior. thus causing them to embarrassingly identify with an entire different part of the world

It’s really interesting to see, many of the people being interviewed seemed to pick countries that they may be bias towards or admire, kind of giving us an idea of what there perception of that place is or maybe just that they like that country. Not saying it’s a bad thing because at the end of the day many countries and cultures share so many practices that you could find endless correlations. Just a prime example of confirmation bias in my eyes.

Across the globe...there is a gradual change in appearance and culture as you travel across the world. Every country is most similar to their neighboring countries. To distance yourself from your neighboring countries and associate yourself with countries on the other side of the planet just shows their fear of the western countries associating them, the Iranians, with their neighboring countires. This becomes abundantly clear when they say "Afghanistan was part of Iran once." (To show superiority). Then in the same breath say "We are nothing like the Afghans."

As an Iranian, I think most Iranians do not have the slightest resemblance to Europeans, especially Italians and Germans. Also about myself I think I look more like Tajiks, North Indians, and since I have very fair skin, I might look like some white Pakistanis.

im italian my self. and there are some iranians here. they call them selfs persians. dont know why. i dont think they look like us. we have brunette and tanned skin with light eye colours and we are not hairy. i have seen a lot of iranians they have very big noses, most of them and they look more a mix between arabs and asians. and i agree with american guy, the afghans/and turkish people look more italian spanish greek like. they have light eyes and light hair colours.
