Today, we are going to compare the 2 of the Best Wired Video Doorbells that I have tested and also have been using in my front door. We have the Ring Video Doorbell PRO 2 and we will compare it to the Reolink Video Doorbell. We will compare their pricing, needing a subscription, video and audio quality day and night and their features that makes them in my Best List.

Im still using the ring video doorbell 2nd gen , but I mostly run ReoLink cameras. If I upgrade my setup I'll probably go with reolink with poe and add a network cable to my wiring for the doorbell.

I’ve owned the Ring, Reolink, and Amcrest video doorbells and I must say for price and performance the Reolink is tough to beat. The Reolink can operate both over WiFi and Ethernet regardless of version, it can use up to a 256 GB SD card locally, as well as being able to be linked to a security DVR/NVR, to a computer or to an NAS, it’s also 5MP and can have the light around the button and/or IR lights turned off. While Amcrest is nice as well it costs more for less quality and doesn’t offer a POE option. While I stuck with the WiFi version as it offers more connectivity and power options. The only thing I don’t like is Reolink doesn’t have a secure mounting option as all you need to remove the doorbell as a pin, nail, or even a toothpick. Ring doesn’t secure their video and it isn’t encrypted through their entire process and Ring doesn’t allow you to store or even monitor your device locally and everything must go through the internet; you also are forced to pay to store any video. Reolink can ring the included chime even if the internet is down as the doorbell links to the chime outside of WiFi.

I like the wider vertical view of the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 for the purpose of seeing packages at the front door, but like the playback audio on the Reolink better.

Watched this video again after installing my own Reolink WiFi doorbell. The FOV and audio quality (coming out of the doorbell) are a bit of a disappointment but everything else seems better on the Reolink. Hopefully a second version will fix the few cons of this doorbell.

Reolink can be completely free of the cloud which means it will still work even if the internet is down as long as you are on the same wifi network as the doorbell, Ring won't work without internet as it's always connected to the cloud even when you're at home on the same wifi network as the doorbell. It does have slightly better sound quality from the outside though. Reolink does have patch cable option so resistant to jamming and possibly lower latency and less prone to interference. It will work with Reolink NVR and even some other ones so it's DIY friendly for cloud cutters and better for privacy.

To be fair, you can adjust the brightness and other image enhancements on the Reolink so your face would not be too dark as in your presentation.

Reolink is $70 today for Prime Day in July. They also have a newer one with 3:4 head to toe and package detection for $80.

Ring doorbell camera needs monthly subscription that will continue to rise, while I already own Reolink CCTV with NVR *Poe* reolink door dont require monthly subscription. Im in market for doorbell camera, I just cancelled my Ring doorbell pro 2 for a Reolink doorbell poe which can connect to my NVR.

What camera would you suggest for shallow, narrow, entries other than a doorbell camera? My front door gets extensive heat from noon to sundown and I'm afraid a doorbell will get damaged.

Question for the pros, looking to buy my first camera doorbell here-- It appears the ReoLink stores video locally via memory card, does it also back it up on a cloud in real time? If someone where to come up to my door and rip it off the wall would my footage of the event be lost with the device?

Were you able to add the Reolink WiFi version doorbell to your Reolink NVR? I am looking to get that one, but many amazon reviews say that the wifi version is not compatible with the NVR only the POE version is. Were you successful in adding the WiFi version to your reolink NVR?

Can you explain more about what a "rich" notification is? I'm looking to get the Reolink doorbell but don't know if I want the wifi version or not. I have a reolink system that I would tie the doorbell into, if I don't get the wifi doorbell will I still be notified on my phone when someone rings the doorbell?

I know this comment is a year old, but if anyone else, including OP is wondering, I’ll explain the difference between the PoE, or power over Ethernet, and WiFi versions. To answer your initial question, you’ll still get notified of a doorbell push, whether your Reolink is PoE or WiFi. “Rich” notifications are snapshot images, or gifs, that appear from the camera’s notification when you press and hold it. I’ll use Ring as an example here. Whenever I get a notification “there is a person at your front door” I can hold the notification and see a snapshot of what the doorbell is recording. 99% of the time it is an Amazon package, so I can just disregard it. Reolink has two versions of their video doorbell, PoE only, and WiFi, which has an Ethernet port. It’s important to note that the PoE only version does not support rich notifications or WiFi. However, you can get the WiFi version and run an Ethernet cord to your doorbell wiring to plug it in. This will make the doorbell have a network connection, so no WiFi jamming, and you get rich notifications even though it’s plugged in. LifeHackster made a video on it about a year ago.

Does any other security camera offer the high speed scrubbing like Ring? Biggest issue against the Reolink was the likely inability to see a package due to the aspect ratio. Reolink at the price is certainly a good one. Since I already own the Ring one...I'm not willing to jump ship at the moment. I think Reolink is doing a good job though.

Ring event scrubbing is why I’ll always stick with Ring. It makes viewing multiple events significantly easier to see. Nest has scrubbing also but it’s not as refined as Ring.

Much better FOV and "Good Enough" video and audio quality will have me keeping my Ring Pro 2 (RP2). If Reolink switched their FOV to be similar to the RP2 I might be convinced to switch but for me Field of View is more important than clarity because if you can't see it, the video quality doesn't matter at all.

Yes, you can add it to your NVR. Set the doorbell up first by itself to connect to your WIFI and if you add and plug in your NVR to the same network/router and go to the NVR's interface, go to "channels" and make sure auto add is toggled to ON, scroll down and you will be able to add the doorbell, you just need to log in using the username (admin) mostly and the password that you set when you initially set up the doorbell.

I am soo disappointed that the Reolink WiFi door bell does not have vehicle and pet detection...hopefully I can accomplish this and no subscription rich notifications with Blue Iris and Home Assistant.

The Reolink works well with Synology Surveillance station. So no SD card needed for me for 24/7 recording.

They are releasing a battery version later this year. Currently only a Power over Ethernet version or a regular doorbell, low voltage powered version.

I had the original ring battery doorbell and charging the battery - I had to keep taking it off the wall from its plate which I was not keen on so I ran a alarm cable from where the USB plug was which was in my front room down to the Ring doorbell. I chopped a USB plug that fitted in the back of the ring doorbell and jointed it on the alarm cable I ran in for the Ring doorbell. I also jointed a USB plug on the other end to plug into a USB plug. Then I brought a smart plug so I had the usb mains plug go into the smart plug socket. That way when my battery was low on the doorbell, I could turn on the smart plug from my phone and set a timer for it to turn itself off in a few hours so I wouldn't over charge the unit. I chased the cable in the wall so no cable was seen. I have now gone to Eufy dual camera doorbell as I didn't want to pay the subscription on Ring. I have the same setup with there battery door camera - so I never need to screw and unscrew the camera which is great as I can set a timer once every month to top up the battery. 😊

For me chime works . We as a family spend most of our time in the loft and the existing chime isn’t much audible . In the bedrooms it’s completely inaudible. The plug in chime comes to the rescue . Good ring has that option as well but the steep price , subscription model and relatively poor video quality are major dealbreakers … once you dip your fingertip into ring it just sucks you in… I would be better off with the Reolink

Yes... you have to setup the camera by itself and connected to your network and not on the back of the NVR and then from the NVR's interface, add the camera.

Does anyone know if the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 allows multiple conversations? A few years ago I installed a Ring Doorbell 2 at my mother's house. I remember that I could talk to her from my house (Ring Doorbell Pro) AND I could talk with my sister at her house (Ring Doorbell 2). We could all hear and talk to each other and we all remember this was possible. But now if I'm on my front porch and others connect to my doorbell, I can hear them both, but they cannot hear each other. Just wondering what changed or if I'm missing a setting?

Ring has better video quality while Reolink has better audio quality. I'm surprised that Reolink's video was darker with the slower frame rate.

It is not faulty. The pro 2 has better speakers but the audio in the recording is better on the Reolink.

I have the Reolink Wifi doorbell and every time I use the tab to talk feature the video freezes on me. Not only that, but it also disconnects from wifi and trigger my home doorbell chime. I wish I could return this POS.

If you have the jumper cable hooked up, your chime should not sound anymore.... rule it out first by just plugging the doorbell in using the adapter that comes with it.@@testtai9160

@speedracer9132 most of the popular video doorbell can do that. reolink can works with HA locally, therefore it works pretty with HA. However, ring is cloud based, which means there could be a delay. I don't have a ring doorbell, so i can't tell how well it is

A security camera is only good as the app it’s using and the Ring app is superior to the rest. The real time scrubbing feature makes viewing events a breeze.

I bought myself a Reolink Doorbell PoE. The case is made of thin plastic, which is absolutely unacceptable for placement outside. I live in a large apartment building and many strangers may be near my apartment. It will not be difficult for them to remove the Doorbell or damage it. The cases of such devices must be made only of durable metal and have an anti-vandal design. Using thin plastic is a very strange decision by Reolink.

Ring's main drawback for me is: 1. Inability to store videos locally. Subscription is required. On the other hand, Reolink's main drawbacks for me are: 1. Not enough vertical field of view to see smaller packages placed by the door. 2. No rich notifications unless subscribed (which defeats its no subscription required advantage). Single device subscription is also more expensive than Ring's. 3. Can't connect with existing chime. 4. It's operational temperature range is -10 to 55 C which is not ideal where I live. 5. Last but not least, Reolink company is from China.

Ring reduced their price because they aren't selling because they got their Legal asses in a sling for giving up videos to Law Enforcement without a warrant. The Governor of the Corporate HQ's state, reamed their asses for a breach of the 4th Amendment. I wouldn't own a Ring just for that. An Amendment is like muscles, if you don't exercise them, they go away! Screw RING.
