About 10 years ago, I took my daughter to the USA for auditions. Was trying to find the best way from NY to Ohio. The first way I thought was taking an overnight train to there. I thought it might be a cheap way to go there. But after checking the price of airplane, I was totally wrong. Taking airplane is much cheaper than taking train! And more faster! Seems the train in the USA is not so friendly as in Taiwan. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers!

Australia is the same. For interstate travel, the planes are faster and cheaper than the trains.

have lived in both US and Taiwan for at least 10 years, I'd say it's all about the people. Taiwanese and East Asians are generally nice, quiet, following rules, pay attention to maintain their image(except China lol), but in US, not only people are not doing that, but Americans are just tend to be more aggressive and violent, and of course racism plays its part every time, so train is just not a good option, even airline isn't all that peaceful as train in East Asia.

@@jay.rhodenI think for the low population density countries, train might not be a good way as the public transportation. Building cost is too high and the income will be too low. So that is reasonable to take planes instead of take train.

@@jay.rhoden Those ppl that criticize the lack of high speed train in North America never consider the sparsity between different cities. It just won't have the passenger volume let's say for a high-speed from Vancouver all the way to LA to be built and the fastest high-speed train can only operates up to 350km/h max. And that's still way less efficient than flying from Vancouver to SF or to LA.

2:23 The only good train we have is the Amtrak Acela it’s a High Speed Train but only goes 240km/h top speed in very short sections. But it’s a nice train to ride on.
@davidwu Wasn't it the Japanese that start building railroads in Taiwan during the occupation? Just wondering 🤔
@carrolinalin85669 ай бұрын
@@pandabear153 Actually is officer 劉銘傳of Ching Dynasty who started Taiwan railroad, very short, though, but a very good start. The Japanese then fine tuned about 90-99% of the rest part.

When I remember 10 years ago I bought HSR ticket using cash... it was like 500 something and I put 1000 dollar note into the vending machine It's like getting a jackpot from slot machine.. (because they only give 50 coin as changes, so 500 dollars change = 10x50 coins) Things getting better now!

It's similar to the HSR and MRT in mainland China.
