I've never thought before about how many games I have in my collection. Whilst watching your video I was reflecting on this and thinking about each system. It's definitely in the hundreds... possibly even reaching 1000?? I've been collecting for years, kept loads and re-bought loads. I can totally relate to going through times of having to sell games, especially when I was younger and money was harder to come by. Another great video lifespiller79. Hope you like your PS4 when it comes! :-)

another awesome video response lifespiller79. you have great points about why you would do it and why its ok to sell off some of the stuff. collecting anything gets expensive and i am a understanding person and would understand if you didnt have thousands of games for every system. i just like your channel because it is honest,polite and a good personality. I wanna say your wife chose a great guy because your a cool dude brother. keep up the good work on the videos you make because you are one of the few people i watch from week to week. I like to keep up on your channel because you have so much positive energy in your videos. I would say if you sold off some of your collection thats cool. there is nothing wrong with selling stuff to get the stuff you really want.

Thanks, CNE2! Appreciate the kind words! I would love to own every title. Good or bad but reality is times have change. The prices will reach a point where they'll drop. Actually there are times throughout the year where games are the cheapest. So i just clean up as much as i can!

Great response mate, love listening to you, your sincerity always shines through. As for selling parts of my own collection; well, I have roughly 800 games for various computers/consoles in my games room and another 6000+ in storage. I have been seriously considering starting to sell off part of the 6000+, as by definition, if they are in storage, they are not getting played. Even a self-confessed hoarder/collector like me has to admit at this stage that things need to change. The only problem I have is the stuff in storage is predominantly for my favourite computer. The Sinclair ZX Spectrum and whilst a lot of the games don't hold and nostalgic value for me, some of them do and those that don't are still games I saw advertised or others play at the time I class as my personal golden era of gaming. Whilst selling these will be traumatic, it's something that I have come to realise must be done. Logic trumping the heart finally?

Thanks, RGC! With collecting you truly have to know what you want. Now if I started collecting years ago, my thought process may have been different. Really bad sellers have taken away from some of the collecting. I still love collecting and adding things to my collection but there are some games that are just games for me. Then some spark that pure essence of memory that I can only share with that game. Its just for me and only for me. I probably would have 1000+ games as well had I started years ago. I like watching your channel because it brings things to the table I've never heard of or things I had forgotten about. Then I start reliving old memories again. Like your last video pretty much all the 2600 games was some of the many games I had as a kid.

great video man :) my collection saved me once a few year back. had allot of things breaking down on me at home so i was lucky enough i could sell off my 360 collection. some days i regret it. for me in the beginning of collecting i was grabbing everything i wanted and while it was great i found it was hard on me money wise. i was spending allot of money on the collection. nowdays i'm allot smarter when it comes to collecting. i have a forever growing wishlist of games but i always maintain i will find the games i'm after one day :) i go for the best deal i can get now rather than rushing in and getting it. As for selling i really havn't done much other than the 360 and wii . i often will most likely trade before selling.

Your story sounds like mine. I've sold off consoles only to turn around and re-purchase them. Pawning items became easy for me only to regret doing so. It would cost more to get it back. Yeah I've learned to go after better deals and the games i truly want.

Great VR mate. I collect to play and a lot of the stuff I had I decided to get rid because I only kept hold of it because of the value and not because I wanted to play it. I try to play every game I have and by going for a full vibe set it's help me limit what I buy. Because I'm going for a full cube set I know I will have some rubbish games but I play to play and complete every cube game I have as well to make it more interesting like I said I'm more a gamer than collector. Can't remember the last time I paid full price for a brand new game.

Yeah I just starting getting to a realistic stand point with my collection. I know I can look down at my ps1 games and haven't really dedicated time to them at all. Hell I don't remember beating any of the games either but the collector in me is not willing to part with them. I believe alot of the games I haven't got to was bc a part of me really didn't want to play them.

Cool response video. I would never sell any of my old 8-bit computers, (especially the msx) the pe engine, famicom & table top handhelds,.. loads of nostalgia there, but would have no issues selling everything else...saying that, I'd regret it & probably get it all back. I guess that I'm a collector aswell as a gamer. :)

Those systems and games you mention. Definitely go under my HELL no I'm getting rid of type stuff lol Its already 10x harder finding let alone replacing them. As the prices increase on the NES, SNES and other games from the 8 bit and 16 bit I hold on tight to those games. I'm definitely a gamer and collector.

Great video as always man. Yeah well my main focus is on the NES and SNES as they are the systems most important to me and I have an attachment to them. I've got and had other systems that I've brought and then sold on with no regrets because I don't have the same nostalgic connection with them. They were great system but I just don't care about them if you know what I mean. I won't sell my nes or snes stuff but if it came down to it I could let everything else go and I wouldn't be that bothered to be honest.
@GameFreak4Ever

When you can sell off something there means there was no love to begin with. Which for a small percent of my collection I can do that. Yeah I know not to touch the NES or SNES stuff as far as selling go. Its just cost too much to replace.

Great vid man like we were talking about yesterday on Facebook. i'll keep games that i had growing up as a kid and meant a great deal to me and i will keep most of my rpg's. I grew up a sega guy so i will mostly keep all of my sega games...well most of them anyways. Like i said before ill mainly get games if i know i going to keep them but you just never know...like i want a neo geo i grew up playing many of those games now if i had a opportunity to sell a part of my collection for some of one would i do it? Hell yes!!! You have to do whats going to benefit you collection and your collection growth!
@GameFreak4Ever
@GameFreak4Ever 10 жыл бұрын
See I have no problem with dipping back in my collection to benefit my collection for the future. Like I was saying in the video getting the PS4 will come at a price but its something I really want. So getting rid of games that serve no purpose for me is nothing. If I had attachment like the GOW series then that's different. I guess for me I realize this is MY collection. So I can do whatever I please with it.

Ok this is gonna be a long response.... Time to make a coffee and get some snacks everyone, sorry! But you were warned so no moaning afterwards yes? Firstly great video, reason why? Because this is how KZfaq should be used in the retrogaming sense, to recreate a conversation you would have with your friends in your own home. It's personal and debate provoking so for someone like me this is great. The subject of game re-selling is a tricky one and rather than focusing on the act itself it's important to only see the reasons behind it. As one of those collectors you mentioned for me to say I agree with outright selling on would be a lie and something I could not defend but that's me, who I am. I know you personally (as in I take the time to listen to you and get to know who you are) so I watch this and see the natural evolution of you as a gamer and recent core collector and it's a mirror image of people like DaveImagamegeek who is another youtuber I watch as again I like his personal touch. There are so many types of collector out there and all are in my eyes awesome with the exception of a few, some of whom you interact with and are people who I personally have issues with but that's not for now and not for a public forum. The one thing I see a lot are new people to the scene grabbing everything only to realise space is the real enemy to a gamer. It is a killer when that moment comes along and it's something that now even I am experiencing as my gamesroom reaches bursting point. At this point it's essential to take a pause, think about what you most love or enjoy and then draw the line in the sand and fight that battle. Heart is what this is all about, it's not about who has the most or who knows the most, it's about how retrogaming makes you feel. If people come into any aspect of the scene chasing respect, celebrity status, page views or worship they are not welcome in my eyes. As Stan Lee would say they are not TRUE BELIEVERS lol. As a man who has real world responsibility with his incredible wife and family I can see now that real world has dealt you a logistical blow it's time for you like Dave to make a decision. I have to say that once again you showcase some fantastic human emotion in how for you this is both a necessity but at the same time painful but it's how to rationalize it out loud that for me is just lovely. I really do have a huge amount of time for you buddy, I wish we lived in the same street along with people like Corey. I think we would have been the best of childhood friends. Selling of games from your collection never makes you a bad person or an enemy of the scene itself unless it's done in a deliberate and profit making way. By that I mean people who set out to raid gumtree, Craig's list and car boot sales week in week out to simply go home and whack on a huge buy it now price on Ebay. Like me or hate me for saying this part out loud but those people make me sick! They are forcing prices up for genuine retrogaming scene lovers and it's totally not needed. I built my collection without ever once doing that. You never need to buy to sell to ultimately collect, that's a rubbish argument that has no basis at all. So as always Spiller my friend all that's left for me to say is thank you for a great video that once again shines a light on such a beautiful soul. Letting things go is never easy, in my life I have gotten rid of huge chunks of my collection for no other reason than the fact that nobody around me was there to keep me in love with old games. Like you I'm from the original gaming generation and so many of us were alone in our love for keeping in the past. It's important to always learn from one's mistakes though so until i can no longer feed myself, pay bills or actually move in my own home nothing ever leaves my sight ever again. I've lost too much in the past from parents throwing stuff out, to giving things away to people who never loved it like I did to ever repeat said mistakes. I drew my line in the sand a while ago when I decided what kind of collector I wanted to be which was one that tried to inspire others to follow their own passions and do whatever I could to help new people into the scene feel relaxed. To be a part of the community as a whole in always helping others out with projects or simply having a good old chat on skype or the google + hangout on colexions.com. People like you and me Spiller have a duty of care for the next generation even if people don't need, ask or want it. You sir are a shining light in this aspect which is why so many people watch what you do, listen to what you say and come back for more. It's my pleasure to know you.

First of all thanks for your open and honest response. A person like me would like to have any pick out of the great vast amount of games out there. Sadly this is not the case. That's why it felt so good to talk about things that others wanted to stomp on. Once man trash is another man's treasure. There are many gems in my collection. Now there are even more out there waiting to be acquired. Yes, I thrive off thought provoking conversations such as this. Its important the gaming community speak up. Changes to come is what I'm looking for. Who knows like we talked about in the past. There will come a time when prices will drop and I will snatch up tons of great titles I've been waiting but couldn't have because of over pricing. Good stuff as always. To me good sir you're the true gaming god among others. Lol

Well... for me I've already plotted out all of the games I want to buy for every system that I have/want to buy (discounting new releases). For example, I want to collect for the following systems: Nintendo 3DS Game Boy Game Boy Color Game Boy Advance Nintendo DS Nintendo GameCube Ninteno 64 Sega Master System Sega Genesis Sega CD Sega Saturn Sega Dreamcast Playstation Playstation 2 Playstation 3 Playstation 4 Playstation Portable Playstation Vita Nintendo Entertainment System Super Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Wii Wii U WonderSwan Color Xbox Xbox 360 Xbox One And very few physical PC Games I have comprised an entire list of the games I want to buy because I want to play them. But recently I bought Hyperdimension Neptunia because I wanted to play it, but I'm going to sell it because later I plan to by the Premium Edition of Hyperdimension Neptunia. So I mostly sell games that have bought and will buy later games that I just do not give a shit about keeping. XD (Which is nothing I plan to buy.)

Is it really worth trading games in? the good once i want to keep, the bad once have little value. i have game back till the atari 2600 and i´m really happy i still have them - even the bad once, they are always good for a laugh ;)

That´s a interesting point: do you collect games or game cartridges. Because the old games you can get for free with emulators. i collect games too, but since steam came around i bought almost 300 games there. it´s all digital, but i wouldn't consider it less of a collection. the only question is: what will happen when steam goes down. then again CDs and DVDs only hold for so long. So basically there are two questions for your show: is a digital collection still a collection? and: are you afraid that your CD/DVD collection with not work anymore one day?
@GameFreak4Ever
@GameFreak4Ever 10 жыл бұрын
I do both. I been gaming for almost 30 years. I have emulators as well. Also have tons of digital games. Mainly I'm a collector so I want the physical copy. I've talked about the digital copy in my podcast "What is the ultimate goal for your collection?" Around minute 15. Also you can download it for on the go!

Sometime its come comes down to space issues or desirablilty... maybe you bought a game and you didnt like... shouldnt feel like you have to keep it just because some people dont like the fact you sold it out of your collection. I used to buy everything i came across when i started a few years ago but its to the point where space is a limited and i only buy games that i want in my collection.
