People asked me to compare the lifestyle in Dubai with the lifestyle in North America - US and Canada.
I've spent a lot of time in all 3 countries, so I feel confident to compare them.
What can you expect if you move to Dubai from North America? How similar is it? What are some of the things that you must pay attention to? How safe is Dubai?
Today I'm going to try to cover everything that you might be interested in when it comes to differences and similarities of life in UAE vs Canada and the USA.
Who are we and what do we do?
We are Offshore Citizen team. We help people become global: get a second passport, set up a second residency, pay less taxes, do banking abroad, etc.
We have lots of interesting articles on different topics, we have relevant information up to date.

@@MichaelRosmer Hello! I gain so much value from your videos! Thank you for your response. I'm interested in learning more about Lisbon, Madeira, Tiblisi, Malta, Belgrade, North Macedonia... and where ever might be a tax-friendly location that's advantageous for my small 11-employee software company that I plan to move out of the US in 2022/2023 (and grow). I don't know where that is! I'll need easy access to this country (and potentially citizenship?), but I don't see a CBI program that is a good fit yet. I'm waiting to see what changes North Macedonia makes to its CBI. Also, I like Ukraine from a tech perspective (I have contacts there), but Russo-Ukranian relations... well, not so much. I like Italy, but the taxes seem high and I don't hear anyone else talking about it being a great place for tech. For living... I'm in love with Lisbon... like everyone else! I plan to move April/May 2022 from the US on a D7, apply for permanent residency, and eventually for citizenship. (I've already sold my home and am prepping to move LLCs, voter reg, accounts, etc. to South Dakota which doesn't tax expats or businesses unlike the state where I currently live.) The size/resources of my company fit Portugal's Golden Visa, but I'm not sure I want my company to be there, although I've set aside time to look into Madeira soon. I'm certainly out of my wheelhouse! I never though I'd leave the US, but 2020 exposed our failings to an intolerable degree and opened me to consider international options that excite me!

@@MakeItSo_ST sounds like great plans. Yes, Portugal isn't such a good place to have a business. Depending on what you're doing with software you might consider Singapore.

What is your opinion and recommendation on tax structuring for someone who wants to live in Costa Rica? Implications for territorial tax system, controlled foreign corporation rules, management and control rules, and banking in/around Costa Rica and Latin America? You’ve mentioned in a previous video that Costa Rica is a bit unique for tax and structuring.

You’ve done a great job and I’d like to add some recent changes. Last year, the UAE liberalized their laws and became more secular. I don’t know the details of the changes but they made cohabitation legal , age of consent is 15 and you don’t need a license to purchase alcohol.

How do you invest, grow and develop in a country without even being a citizen of that country? UAE will never be your forever home- you will and always will be a foreigner. Citizenship is a basic right. U.S has its issues but at least you don’t need to worry about being kicked out out of nowhere. And you can actually call it home once you get a green card.

@@hellophoenix I always thought it would be too hot and dry. I live in the UK and am not use to desert conditions. Also the photos I’ve seen it seems very built up and over commercialised with no green spaces or parks. Perhaps I’m wrong and after a few days I might enjoy staying longer?
@MichaelRosmer
@MichaelRosmer 3 жыл бұрын
@@tinglestingles it is very hot in the late spring and summer but starts to cool and be very pleasant by October. I'd say December or January could be a nice departure from UK winter weather. You are right about green spaces there aren't a lot that's one of their missions to make Dubai the best city to live in by 2040 they say they plan on making something like 70% of the city or some similarly large number into green spaces. One of the things I love about Dubai is they realize where they are weak and are working to improve, which is more than I can say for most of the Western nations, which tend to either think their weaknesses are the lack of gender neutral bathrooms or very complacent.
@hellophoenix

@@tinglestingles I agree with Michael , it’s very humid and very hot. I’d say July and August are just unbearable months. But I was in London for 6 weeks in the winter and barley saw the sun and it really depressed me. Also, there aren’t many parks but my brother lives in a golf course development and he has a gorgeous view and surrounded by green space. An ideal situation would be to stay in Dubai from October until April and then go to Europe. That would be the life 😊

Yes absolutely, you will have no issues. Actually I’d say that it would feel much safer than in North America, you can go out any time of the day and nobody will even approach you let alone something else. In terms of safety Dubai is a great place. The only potential problem you could have would be if you’re dressed inappropriately in places such as malls. The worst thing that can happen is they’d tell you to change your clothes. Yeah we will certainly film about real estate! Thanks for the suggestion.

On average probably Emiratis are wealthier than Americans. UAE definitely doesn't leave their people behind the way the US does. There's a lot of very poor Americans. @@Mik-rs3xv Possibly not at the same level of the G 7 , but it has changed so much in the last few years. They have women at a very high levels in the government and even flying jets in the Air Force. Also, they liberalized their laws last year and now the age of consent is 15 , cohabitation is legal and expats can get married , divorced , and apply inheritance laws of their own country. I’m not denying the fact that local women don’t enjoy the same rights as Western women but it’s not fair not to recognize the very fast progress they have enjoyed in the last few years and may I add that women in Switzerland didn’t enjoy voting rights until the 1971.
