Thanks very much for sharing this information, I am greatly appreciative for you to take the time out to do this interview, Ironically D.McKenzie said that he lived on Carpenters Road in Jamaica at one point, coincidentally in the early seventies I also lived on Carpenters Road but I don’t recognize him or ever heard of him in those days. One of my sisters used teach one of the nieces of Rita McKenzie and Winston Thompson had a sister name Cheryl was in the same class, long before W.Thompson started riding my sister used to tell me that he student Cheryl Thompson used to tell her that he brother is training to ride and he will ride soon.

You say the words "horse racing" and you immediately get my attention. Dating back to the 1970s, I was so fixed on the sport that no race day - be it Wednesday, Saturday or a public holiday - would miss me. Sometimes, I would travel from Montego Bay to Caymanas Park to watch the races. I no longer live in Jamaica, but even now, more than 50 years later, I still tune in online now and then to watch racing at Caymanas Park. I knew quite a few of the older trainers - most of whom have now passed on or retired - but I had close friendship with veteran trainers Aston Commock, Mortima Heron and Clement Depass. Long live their memories and their contribution to racing.

I know scorcher will remembered this one, when he and Neville Cousley were in a rugged ding dong battle to the finish, he rode off his shirt to victory, the horse was trained by Wesley Zaidie, it was said that he was related to Reggie & Trevor Mckenzie. Father& Son in that in order and former champion jockeys.?.

I went to school (Mico Practicing) with the McKenzie boys. We used to call them Bugs, they were excellent athletes.John was my friend and classmate. Their mother Mrs.Rita would take along a large box on Sports Day as there would be numerous Prizes to take home. I would remind her of this when I saw her occasionally near Hughenden in late '60s to early '70s. The first Jockey I knew was K.McFarlane (Wizzy) who would pass through our school some afternoons sometimes with his Whalebone. He would check these guys as well as another classmate named Black. Kind Regards David (Scorcher). 19:09 4:22😢

I was hoping to hear "Scorcher," saying "Kiddie" Mattis, Donald Andrade, Samuel "Shuffla" Heslop, and even some of the British and Panamanian reinsmen in particular Albino Ubidia were some of his main competitors on the track. I was also surprised that he didn't mention trainers Arthur Sharp and Mrs Eileen Cliggott, who he rode and win a few races for. All in all, it was delighted to know that David McKenzie is still around and have not yet ready to call it quits. Excellent job from the folks at Quick Galloper in putting this interview together with one of our legends. Was there a race named after him, anyone!!??
