Lifting and moving patients is a big part of the EMS job. When patients call 911 they can be anywhere, and it is your job to treat and transport them to emergency department.
Inside this week's video, I detail all of my best tips for lifting and moving patients for EMS providers and EMS students. My goal with this video is to help you cut your learning curve.

Proud of you bieng young and motivated in the meantime to make your resume look good the Red Cross offers BLS CPR AED and first aid for like $85 and I believe it's like a two-day course I'm not sure like what it would be in your state but take that little course and that will look so good on your resume and it'll give you a little warm up of pretty paramedic school. You could do it and stay positive and stay motivated

Great video. As an EMT I didn't realize how much lifting we do and how providers really injure themselves.Proper lifting needs to be a bigger emphasis in EMT training.

Can use a blanket placed on the stair chair and then wrap the patient like a burrito, then straps. Helps keeps their arms from reaching out. Double useful in the winter.

Thanks for making this video! I work for a non emergency passenger (patient) transport service. My company uses non hydraulic manual stretchers. On average the passenger weighs 170 to 325 lbs! Many are unable to sit up nor walk. Some are in comas. Only 2 hospitals in my metro that my company transports have ceiling mounted mechanical hoists. For the other facilities (including assisted living), there's nurses and CNA's to help lift. However there's times staff aren't available or nowhere in sight! It's important myself and partner don't injure ourselves. We aren't ashamed rather encouraged to call our dispatch for additional assistance. 😃 When we transport to homes for hospice, some residents don't have ramps at their front door! 😥 Instead we lift our manual stretcher step by step. My company doesn't have stair chairs.😪 We will call the local fire department or emergency ambulance service for bariatric assistance if myself and partner encounter the risk of jeopardizing our safety and passenger.

Used a stair chair dozens of times with a patient on it. It really sucks when they freak out and grab the rails. You definitely need good communication using one.

If you're not confident in yourself then you probably shouldn't become one because being a paramedic requires a lot of confidence
@SS-iw2nq
@SS-iw2nq Жыл бұрын
@@swiggityswagger1232 Confidence is important for a Paramedic but I think encouraging and supporting your EMS partner is more important. The original commentor doesn't need judgement right now but a sense of assurance. What good is it if a Paramedic is confident but doesn't work together effectively as a team nor willing to have the patience for his/her partner to learn and master skills? This profession is under paid, overworked, and understaffed. Let's try to make this line of work achievable, rewarding, and fun.

Hey Saxon, I wasn't the best at "school" either but when I found EMS it really helped change my life and mindset around education because I actually enjoyed what I was being taught. If you want to do it, you can period.
