It's cold. and I LOVE IT. That feeling of crisp icy air on your skin, foggy breath, cold air in your lungs, all of it. It's been ok farming this winter as the rain hasn't started yet. We are wondering if it will come? We need it too. This week I've lifted Dahlia tubers to store for the next 4 months.

I don't lift any of my dahlias now. Watched Sarah Raven in UK, who says to leave them in the ground despite frosts even snow. Havnt lost one since leaving them in. I do mulch to keep protected over winter.

Careful with that, the winter here in the uk is very mild, this year we had no snow and most of the time temperatures between 6-7 degrees C during the day and rarely -1 C at night. For example my snapdragons loved this winter they remained green all the time and early in the spring they bloomed

So pretty where you live. Even though I am in Qld I still pull mine up. Dahlias can be diva's but so worth it. 😊

Hi Phaedra, I lifted my Dahlia tubers for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I also used Coles paper bags. 🤣🤣but I also packed them in dirt as well. I would be keen to see how you divide them up in the spring and when you plant them out. Cheers

Phaedra its a task isn’t it. I took ours out about 5 weeks ago as we had been getting so much rain I stressed myself out that I would lose too many. We are a little different from your area and I am hoping to start waking ours up at the end of August and will keep them in my high tunnel for a wee while until the soil warms up around late September for us and then plant them back into our field. Freezing cold here today with this revolting arctic blaze that they warned us about on the news last night, and windy as a bugger. Have a great weekend and remember you’ve earned a break, enjoy a coffee and the kids and hubby, maybe even make some time to lay on the couch near the fire with a blanket and good book :)

Bravo! Why don't you sell your extra dahlia tubers to your local nurseries, plant stores and/or farmers? It's much better than ordering from a catalogue from a company overseas - and they might save a little money buying locally. Plus its storage space that you don't have to worry about
