This video shows how to change the programming of liftmaster 811lm remote controls. The operator was installed on an apartment complex where the remotes were programmed to open the gate with one press, stop the gate with another press, and close with another press. This programming is called Open/Stop/Close and is done by simply pressing the learn button and then remote button. This video shows how to change the programming so that the remote ONLY is able to open the gate and not stop it or close it.
This type of remote programming is able to be done on the latest versions of Liftmaster gate operators, and in order for this to work the timer to close feature MUST BE ON!
Having you remotes programmed this was will help reduce call backs because or gates being stuck open or not closed all the way due to users having the ability to stop the gate mid travel. Remotes will only open the gate and the timer to close will take care of closing it.

Hey I have a gate opener, it has the learn button but on the panel there’s no way to program it. It has buttons and a ring button with a camera. Number pad that opened the gate. I can do the garage but not sure how to program it to the gate.

You will just press the yellow learn button and then the remote, that will allow the remote to stop & close the gate also.

All vehicles homelink programming are slightly different. Its best to refer to the manual or search for a video on youtube. Make sure its for your make and model or at least the process for your manufacturer.

Hello! I can't open the cover to access to the inner panel. I think there are two screws on the bottom to prevent that. How did you open yours? Will I get in trouble for opening it without letting the HOA know? Thanks. 🙏

You can use a Phillips screw driver to loosen those two screws, don’t remove them completely. And once your done programming just replace the cover, being careful not to pinch any wires with the clear cover.

LoL I'm on the same situation. I want to program my remotes, but the motor is locked. They are charging 45 for each remote they provide. I need 3. 😭 I'll have to buy anyway.

I have the same issue on a property with 100 units, will I have to reprogram all remotes?

If you are using this gate operator, and have 100 Liftmaster 811lm remotes with all the dip switches set the same, you can program one remote by pressing the yellow learn button followed by the green open button then pressing the remote. Once this is done all the other remotes should work, if not change batteries in remotes and verify all the dip switches are set correctly.

I have a 811lm that is programmed to open the gate. If I purchase another tramitter and match the dip switches will it work, or do I need the receiver to learn it?

It should work, there is a chance of a “credential” receiver being installed and if that’s the case then it won’t work. Credential receivers are not commonly installed so there’s a very high chance that if you were to match the dip switches on a new remote it will work.

So in what is demonstrated here, every tenant utilizes a remote with the same dip switch code in it. So the management or leasing office personnel will purchase a remote and match the switches inside and give it to the tenant. However most Apartment complexes don’t usually operate this way. Apartments and gated communities usually utilize come kind of telephone entry or access system, such as a doorking unit or something similar. Those systems can allow management companies to issue and manage individual remotes without affecting everyone else’s remotes.

I live in a gated community. I don’t have access to the learn button but I do have the gate opener remote. How can I program a universal remote without using the learn button?

So usually larger gated communities will have "managed" types of remotes, where each remote will have a serial number or ID and the HOA is tasked with programming in the remotes. Those types of remotes can not be added by a resident and must be done by the HOA. What is the information of the remote you have that is currently working, and the information of the new remote you are trying to program to your gate. If they have manufactures or model numbers I can better assist and see if you will be able to add a remote yourself.

@@coyote_denali Hi, I am in a residential neighborhood. I have a liftmaster remote controller which I need to pair with Elite Systems Sliding Gate Opener. The model number od Elite circuit board is q206. I am not able to find a learn button it that circuit board. Can you please provide any help in this?

@@shivaniarora9862 That kind of opener is older than the one in this video. The motor your describing requires a receiver be installed for remotes to work, that could be any receiver and it can be installed anywhere so its difficult for me to provide help with that. The motor in my video has a receiver built in, and that’s why there’s a learn button on the circuit board.

@@raultopete5728 try to ask a neighbor and see what kind of remote they have. If they use the same remote that I used in the video try to match the dip switches and then test it and see if it works.

Yes so when programming the home link to the gate you will just push the yellow learn button then the truck home link button instead of pushing the yellow learn button, open, remote button.

What is the process of setting dip switches? I just recently installed a la400 dual with this dip switch remote 2 of the remotes work fine but the customer is saying they had a problem with the 3rd remote. Any suggestions or any links to troubleshoot thanks!

If one remote isn’t working i would verify that all the dip switches are firmly set in the up position or down position. Ive come across dip switches sometimes getting stuck half way and then not working.

For this specific gate opener only Liftmaster of chamberlain remotes can be used. Amazon is a good place to get them, you can search for a Liftmaster 811 (that’s what i used in this video) or a Liftmaster 380UT or Liftmaster 893 MAX

Is it possible to train my Land Rover Range Rover HomeLink button to ONLY OPEN the Liftmaster CSW24U gate without affecting any existing settings on the gate. Our gate is currently setup to close on a timer. I currently have a HOA issued 811LM remote control but I need an extra. I can purchase an additional remote, but was hoping to program my vehicle HomeLink instead. I may have access to the learn button, but is it possible to program a second remote by setting DIP switches or a Homelink button without access to the learn button? If I have access to the learn button and want to program my Homelink. Do I press the learn button once then to OPEN button, then return to my vehicle to press my Homelink button?

It is possible, step one would be to program the remote to your car (this is usually done by holding the home link button and remote at the same time and wait until the home link light goes from a slow blink to a rapid blink) Once that is done test the gate and see if it works. If it doesn’t work, pull up close to the motor, Press the yellow learn then green open button on the operator control board, then the programmed home link button until the operator makes a chirp and your vehicle is programmed.

Only Liftmaster remote will work with those gates? I live in a community and they use the 811 remote. I was trying to use my garage remote but no success.

The remotes do have to be liftmaster and a security plus 2.0 remote. What is the model remote you have?

@@CoyoteDenali Liftmaster 811LMX is the community model, for my garage is a universal model, If a get a Liftmaster 811LMX will it work with the community gate?

@@robertotr if the remotes are programmed the same way that was done in this video then yes, you can buy an 811lmx and match the switches and it will work. If the property is using an 811lmx and it is programmed to a secure receiver like a STAR1000 then no it will not work by matching the switches and will need to be programmed another way.

Do you know how to program a remote from another remote? I just moved into a complex with a gate and they only had one opener, I bought a garage opener and programmed the garage no problem but am having difficulty figuring out how to get the gate on an opener

It all depends on what remote the gate takes, essentially you will need to know what kind of remote to copy.

Ugg still won’t program maybe the remote battery is dead, there’s no little red light on this one so, kind of a pain to program there are differences in the method to do this, I’ll try a new battery and try again.

Be sure its a liftmaster brand remote, not anything else.
