@stephencooper3583

They don't cost that much unless you're getting the fancy, color changing, wifi bulbs that connect to your phone, or specialty bulbs. Normal ones will generally cost a couple bucks each. @@robertherman1146 ... man you really need to shop around. Just went to Home Depot website and saw a 4 pack of 60w for $7.49. Walmart has 4 packs of GE for $8.97. Lowes has a 16 pack of in store brand for $22.98. Like I said, the fancy ones can get expensive, but the everyday bulbs will go for around $2 or $3 each. It pays for itself in lower bills. And you say yours only lasted 4 months? Yeah ok. That seems hella unlucky. I haven't replaced a bulb in years, except by choice. Do you remember what brand? And was this recently? I ask because yeah, the early LEDs were crap, but the current ones are way better. I don't know if they'll really last 15 or 20 years, but 10 wouldn't surprise me.

@@stephencooper3583 Check again. Here in Quebec, Canada, at Rona you can 2 very basic, non-dimmable, GE, led 60W equivalent bulb in ugly blue-white color temperature for 11.99$ before taxes. That is 6$ a piece and they lasted no more than 6 months each. Anything fancier than that (that will actually look more like an incandescent and function like one, eg. dimmable) will cost you more. Ah yes, and they don't give off heat. So a more cold drafts in the winter as the heat is less distributed equally across the house. Each time one goes bad we throw away 100% more plastic in the garbage (as they don't recycle those) and electronics (they don't recycle the chips either). The old bulbs were glass and metal. Recyclable and insanely cheap to produce.

I used to use the incandescent bulbs. I had 3 in my front room ceiling light, they lasted about 5 months. Now I use 1 led, warm white, 250 lumens, which is A+ energy rating. One bulb doesn't light the room as bright as 3 but hey, how bright do you want the room if you're just chillin watching TV and having a beer or dinner. These bulbs are a little bit more expensive, BUT the one in my living room now has been in there 5 years, as opposed to the old ones at 5 months. I bought a box of 3 and still got 2 left. On the box it states a bulb will last 5 years. I'm in the UK so our electric is 240 volts where USA is (I think) 110. Just decide which higher lumens you want.

I only have one 60watt light bulb left, and when that bulb goes so does tge last light socket. The government can't tell me that I can't ban all of my light sockets. Try this one for size government. All CFL's, and L.E.Ds have been banned in my house! I all ready have taken steps to remove all light sockets off of my ceilings, and removing all light switches as well. Next I will be removing the circuit breakers, and the wiring from my service panel that control the lighting circuits. If I can't have my incandescent bulbs, I will not support or have tge circuits that power them! I will also be removing many of the replicas in my house, so that no added lighting can be used. The only ones that will remain will be for the fridge, TV and other small appliances. Try that for size!

I'd guess it depends on usage. I don't know about 25x, but I'd wager that 10x is a safe bet. So you cut buying replacement bulbs 10 to 1, and you save on the energy cost per bulb (60w vs 8w). The typical home will probably save a couple hundred bucks a year. The more lights, the more savings. Mathematically, you can't lose in the long run.

You'll get used to it long term. In Europe the sales ban has been around a long time. So long that many probably by now are through any old style bulbs. And though yes early LED lights were... questionable. Many modern ones are pretty decent. I pick up in the comments that many houses have sub par wiring...

What’s funny is Led’s draw lower amps then incandescent bulbs. So if anything it’s more safe to have lower current. Really what we have a situation of a bunch of boomers and conservatives having a fox news induced panic attack. They have become nothing more than a closed society of contrarians.

@@drunk_astronomy ... Some people just have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. 😆 But once they get over their stages of grief, they will eventually try LEDs (when they have no choice after their incandescents run out) and realize they aren't half bad. Heck, they might even enjoy watching their electric bills drop.

@@stephencooper3583 you seem too ignorant to realize something that may seem like a small thing, such as banning icondesesnt, is really taking away your freedom of choice. If you had a car that was old, but still ran good, would you be alright with being forced to buy a brand new one if the governemnt said that your old one was not 'gas efficient?' I don't know what it is like where you live, but for me I need that warmth from the incondesent in the winter. It gets COLD where I live. Any extra heat is necessary. And I am not okay with the force change of something that has been around for a long time, and has working perfectly fine. Last I checked, freedom means having a choice, but apparently not anymore. Our freedoms are being taken away, until we only are allowed to have have LED and electric cars and electric stoves. No choice between gas or electric appliances is coming next after this. Just wait. Then no cash will be allowed. Don't you understand? This is not for the greater good. It is all about taking away our freedoms. I will go back to candle and lanterns before I switch to LED lights.

@@drunk_astronomy they may want to put a warning on the LED bulbs especially now that more and more of them look identical to a regular incandescent especially if it has frosted glass. My oven doesn't have convection so I'm not concerned about vibration. In the past we have put regular 60 watt incandescent bulbs in it. However I just make sure I keep a supply of proper Appliance bulbs.
