Due to the light weight, great MPG, less wear and tear on the roadway, etc, I believe that there should be huge tax exemptions for people to buy a car like this. Imagine if the roadways were full of commuters driving these? We could be in the passing lane and all get to work in half the time, and everyone would be in an excellent mood ready to work much faster. I think there are a lot of benefits, not to mention no distracted driving, no texting, no calls, no eating while driving. This car makes you concentrate, plus, there is room in the back seat area for your briefcase or jacket!!!

youd get crushed by all the guys in big trucks and SUVs, thats why its not common. Plus the public still thinks that Fiat 500s and SMART cars are super unsafe..... even though both beat a 2006ish Grand Prix sedan in EVERY category for crash ratings. Smart cars actually beat almost every pontiac or chevy sedan built in the same era

Thanks for taking us through this car. These videos are great. I'm often up at night with pain etc from a Neuro disorder. I have to run the audio down low but, they are a great distraction. For someone who misses driving and especially having a bike; I get to vicariously enjoy something I still love. Used to ride my bike to all my nat guard drills on purpose before I was deployed so I'd get several hours on the road. Hearing that Yamaha go really brought that back. Great medicine .

My car basically acted like a cheese grater, I flew up and smashed my head into the glass roof, right butt cheek landed on the center console while driving down the highway. A semi driver behind me said I got about 12" of air. Didn't do any noticable damage except for the hoof mark on the bumper cover and some meat in the rear wheel.

Mike Brink three wheel cars are unstable, but that said I would like to see more motorcycle powered cars. Yamaha had a concept car that was really cool but they only made one and Yamaha owns it. I really would like to see something the size of a utv with lower suspension and a motorcycle engine. Yamaha has the yxz 1000 utv and I bet it wouldn't be hard to Change the suspension and give it a lighting kit and sell those for a bit more than the price of current utvs.

Corey Stryker nope the slingshot uses a Audi engine and KTM makes a track day car but it uses the audi s3 engine. I think both were missed opportunities especially so for KTM. I feel like KTM could have easily made a V4 that matched the Audi power, really they just need a larger version of their V4 racebike engine.

Mike Brink watch the footage of the Polaris slingshot at race of champions. It's a yearly event where champion racers of all disciplines compete against each other. So f1 drivers are competing with rally drivers and Moto gp riders and so on. It's a fun event to watch. But they had a Polaris slingshot on it and it rolled and had a wheel sticking in the air.

I was young, did not have a lot of money and so, the idea ended. Today, I believe, I really missed an opportunity. Today, if such as car, like this one, or based on a Formula Ford, I would be all over it and have one in my garage ( ihave a little more money these days). Wow Jay. I'm a car enthusiast in Melbourne Australia and I love your casual approach on your reviews and the subtle tips you throw in. There is not a car built that is perfect but you will often find a car that comes close to perfect for the individual. Personally I like drivers cars with the sole purpose of driving pleasure. This one is certainly interesting. Great video and nice production and lighting job from your video crew as I am a professional location production cameraman. Yeah the coffin joke was great I have to admit.

My first motorcycle was a 1985 Yamaha Maxim X that had the 700cc version of this engine. I’m amazed at just how similar they sound. Very distinctive.

I always look forward to the weekly JLG video. In the UK we love this style of lightweight car, even today kit cars offer this type of experience at a reasonable price. We all know Jay is a fan of Gordon Murray, has he ever been in a video? Gordon has asked a UK company to build him a Ford Escort Mk1, they are documenting it in some videos which are worth checking out on KZfaq. 👍

Chapman was such a genius, no wonder he was a big inspiration to Gordon Murray. Chapman was a structural engineer who started a car company. He believed it easy to build a bridge but the trick was building a bridge that just wouldn't fall down. When it came to his race cars he was a big believer in parts doing more than 1 thing. For example the engine was also part of the main chassis, the suspension was bolted directly to it and the engine was positioned to balance the car. Check out the Ford promotional video on youtube "first time out (lotus 49)". Lotus with the backing of ford ompletely changed motor racing in the usa when they came to take part in the indy 500.
