Painting outdoors in all weather conditions is very important to David. Working in pure watercolour in a loose and immediate way he is able to capture the light and mood of a place. Here he chooses to paint the pastural scenery of his native Yorkshire in the early spring as well as the city streets of London and Paris. He also works in his studio, painting a more considered watercolour using an oil painting as source material.

That water...so realistic. The buildings look like you could pick them up and move them. I wish I could emulate his style. The man is genius with brush and paint. Draws as well as he paints.

I see how they actually use the water drips to create a picture. Usually, I would just wipe it off

The greatest watercolorists of the 18th and 19th centuries were not scabbling over using white or body paint in their works of art... because they all used it when they needed to. They're the ones who gave watercolor it's "lettres de noblesse" while making history, everybody admires them today. The contemporary speudo purists fussing over that question only show off their cultural ignorance. They should be preoccupied with less intellectual bable (the worst destroyer of art) and more into making good solid art instead. Learn art history correctly and learn the truth. All time greats applied this principle right after the most unmistakable art law called harmony, the rest is only general rules you need to manage_ if it works, use it! Real art is a strange and mysterious attractor not a divider of people.

This 'pure watercolorist' is kind of cliche....its all about bringing out the mood...if uou say that using white is cheap trick then so is using masking fluid.....and i dont know what you were trying to convey by saying him 'selfish'.......
