This week we tackle packing our toiletries in a carry-on. There are a few restrictions to work around when packing all your toiletries in your carry-on but it sure is do-able.

I love the idea of body oil instead of lotion. Like you said, you need a lot of lotion but only a little bit of oil. Definitely going to try that out next trip.

Empty eye drop bottles also make great travel containers - I use one for my very liquid facial SPF and another for cactus seed oil (which I use on my face at night). Both 15 ml, both last me at least a month. Totally leak-proof, too.

+svennika That's a good tip, thanks.. do you ever get in trouble if the bottles aren't see-through? I find the 12 - 15 ml bottles most useful as well, it's just a great size for most things:)

My bottles are kind of see-through, milky-transparent, so you can see the liquid inside. I've never been in trouble with them so far.

Don't bring laundry soap, you can use your shampoo to hand wash clothes - they're usually based on the same detergent anyway:)

+alonememe I didn't know that, I thought it was based on different things.. In my mind laundry soap would be stronger than shampoo, but I'll try it for sure. Do you think its the same with dandruff shampoo, 'caus I wouldn't want my clothes to get all weird?

One Girl One Suitcase Dandruff shampoo has strong antibacterial medicament so it may be to harsh for delicate materials, like wool or cashmere.

alonememe I never take laundry soap. Most hotels these days give you body wash, and it is perfect for washing clothes.

Not to mention you can take powder soap or bar laundry soap to wash your clothes. Won't count towards your liquids.

If you can't travel without your parfume, Travalo has great small 5ml refillable parfume atomisers that are great for travel. Super small and you can fill them yourself with your favorite parfume. :)

Lots of comments about perfume here, so I wanted to add something. If you are a perfume wearer, please remember that some are very allergic to perfumes, and it can make them very sick. Be a good passenger and don't wear it while flying. People who are bothered by it can't just move away from you like they can normally.

I so agree please please just shower and use deodorant and leave that horrible sweet smelling perfume at home. Seriously lol, I will be the sad sneaking mouth swollen person sitting beside you..thanks lol

Perfume is meant to be subtle so if someone’s scent is bothering others on a plane, they are wearing it wrong and may need a lesson in fragrance.

Great info! I do the same, but I take powdered laundry detergent. Now, they come in convenient pods. I bring powdered toothpaste, my makeup is a powder, and when it's not very warm, I used deodorant crystal. This leaves more space for all of my hair stuff which I can't get in Europe (I'm African American, and I need my hair stuff!). Shampoo, lotions, things like that, I wait until I arrive. I usually pick it up in Duty Free. Before I fly back home, I rinse and dry my containers so I can have room for other liquids I might not have finished, like hand lotion or a perfume I've bought.

+Nubianette I've never heard of powdered toothpaste, that sound like a real space saver.. hm by the way I think I forgot to show toothpaste in the video.. oh well:) I have brought powdered laundry detergent on some trips, but I always get annoyed when I can't get it to dissolve probably, so now always bring the liquid stuff:)

Wonderful. Have ever heard of shampoo bars? It's bar soap but made to be shampoo for the hair. Chagrin Valley is where I just ordered mine from. You had mentioned dry scalp and many times shampoo and conditioner strip the hair. It would be easy travel as well. The company offers samples and they are a good size if you don't want to get the full size. Also, instead of perfume there are some amazing essential oil perfume options that you could travel with easily. Kuumba Made makes amazing essential oil perfume. It's in a super small bottle that has a roller on the tip so you just roll it on and go. Those might be easier when traveling instead of the perfume. This bottle is so small you could easily fit it in your bag.

I've seen little thin sheets of soap before which might also work out just havn't heard great reviews of them so far. Thanks for sharing:)

+One Girl One Suitcase Not all shampoo bars are created equal. It might take some sampling to figure it out. J.R. Liggetts is one brand I tried but long term it didn't work out. I'm trying to have less bottles but better product. Shampoo and conditioner have been a real pain.

I can't not wear perfume whilst on holiday so I either take a few little sample bottles/vials or use a Travelo atomiser if I want to use my regular perfume. Travelo's are amazing, easy to fill and no leaks, but have to buy the real ones not copies x

Those little jars ARE huge space savers. I got 25 for less than $6.00 on Amazon. You can get more if needed. I first saw this idea on another video, too. Genius! Three of these stacked are the same size as a travel size of ibuprofen, etc.! 😊

I'm finally going to Europe for the first time. We plan on bringing just a carry on, so watching your video really helped me. It didn't dawn on me to use oil instead of lotion, this in itself will be a great space saver! Thank you!

Thanks for your nice ideas. but only 30 ml face soap/cleanser? I'ts little even for 3 weeks for me , cause with my oily skin i have to wash it twice a day. About the face cream i put to my neck and clevage so i'll need more than this little vase for two months for sure.... and i don' tknow but i cannot find the same products everywhere i go. Love those little muji spray and pump bottles, shall have to get some of those sorted for our trip this summer. I think the key advice is take what you need for a bit and then buy while you're away - most of the time things are easily replaced or refilled, especially if you're staying in hotels or apartments where there are things provided.

Amanda if you hotel has mini samles you can fill them with those. If not, or your doing hostels, you would probably have to buy a larger size and keep the big bottles or refill your small bottle and ditch the rest

Davs! Funny that I should stumble upon this video this day. I actually bought a couple of GoToob squeezable travel bottles earlier today for an upcoming trip. I decided to buy two 89ml bottles, which will fit well in my Osprey Washbag Carry-On. At least that is what I hope :)

I always to it like this (if I'm staying for a long time / months etc) I bring my plastic bag with travel sizes and then buy the rest where I am. Mostly some 2-in-1 like shampoo & conditioner or shower gel with moisturizer :D

great tips! I know its hard to bring a big glass bottle of make up foundation liquid. I brought a empty clear container of lipgloss tube 15ml (with the wang tip) from soap craft company or ebay. I fill in the foundation inside for travel, it didnt leak at all, it saves more space for carry on. I like the idea of using oil as body lotion BUT oil can stain clothes, its makes it harder to wash clothes. However, I chose body cream that has perfume and natural oil. I dont really need to bring a large bottle, just a dime enough or small bottle that last a month.

This was a very inspiring video! As a minimalist myself, I'm always looking for suggestions on how to downsize toiletries without sacrificing what i enjoy taking!! When it comes to taking/leaving perfume, I've found a good compromise is using the TRAVALO perfume spray bottles. Just enough for a couple weeks :)

how many clothes do you think i should try bring for my next trip to New Jersey, we r taken a break this Summer but we might go back in 2021 of August it going be humity and 80s and we usually lounge round house during week days and walk up to the beach for the days and shopping on weekend with my aunt so I go over sometimes there house to do laundry

I have my first flight in 3 months and I have a questions. As far as carry ons and personal bags. I do understand the 3-1-1 rule. As far as the makeup. I use a travel size liquid foundation, does that have to be in the carry on (clear bag) or makeup bag (semi grey tint clear). Also you said 1 bag. So makeup and the 3-1-1 rule bag as to be the same bag? Lol. I’m sorry. I’m seeing different things from different you tubers.

So smart to only bring a couple of makeup items and focus on skincare and hair items. Honestly I am the same usually, I just bring a lip color usually unless I am going for an event.

You should look into a travelo for your perfume, its a tiny tube that you can easily transfer perfume into!

I use to take the smallest bottle of laundry soap in a checked bag. Now I just bring pods in a checked bag. I have not tried taking it on as a travel size carry on yet. I was just making a suggestion of using pods vs actual liquid.

conditioning shampoo bar, soap bar, mini travel soap pills(I make them myself, so there is no need for lotions), a salt crystal hard deo, a razor, toothbrush, a little tin of charcoal toothpaste and my daily contact lenses, my travel size perfume. I even have space left, and I am good for weeks. No hussle at the airport, with liquids in general. I barely use makeup, so... Beat me if you can. :P :)

+missmayflower I guess I just remember that kind of stuff, and most of the liquids I always have them in the same bottle ever time so I know the pink one is soap, the bigger green one is dandruff shampoo and so on. I do write on some of them with a marker.. it tends to come of in a month or two and then I just write it again:)

I think its irresponsible to advocate trying to cheat the system. While the restrictions can be annoying, there is a reason for them, and telling people it is okay to ignore them is frivilous at best. Just stay within the restrictions and then there is no worry at all. If you can do without them if they confiscate them, you can do without them.

How do you carry your laptop and camera - and if I may ask, what type of camera do you have? I'm guessing you probably have an Apple laptop of some sort? TIA!

+jorasparents My laptop goes in my suitcase, it a macbook pro. My camera is a sony, there's a link to all my "gear" in the description of every video if you want the specifics:)

+Linda Wilson Like pads and stuff? I usually bring a few pads and a couple tampons to get me started and then I just buy it there when I need it:)

In regards to the body oil/moisturizer, I really like the solid moisture bars from Lush (www.lushusa.com/Massage-Bars/massage-bars,en_US,sc.html).

Is there are reason you don't take powder laundry soap? Then it wouldn't count towards your liquids.

+Carli Robinson Yep.. I find it hard sometimes to get it to dissolve in a sink if I can't hold the water for very long and stuff like that, and I get so frustrated with it, so I always bring the liquid kind:)

why just not travel with solid products no liquids, shampoo body soap bars, toothpaste, and more there are so many great products out there today and they go much further than any small liquid bottle.

Dont bring liquid shampoo and conditioner. Naples soap company makes a very good bar shampoo and conditioner. They are small and fit in a tiny case. They don’t have to be counted as liquid. Solid deodorant is available. Feminine wash is unhealthy.

usually if the blade isn't over 4in it is ok to bring. (although 4in is long to me)

Ok, if you need a razor, or anything else, and it comes in a 10-pack, or a large bottle, or whatever, and you don’t need that much, but its your regular brand, why not buy the 10-pack, put one or two in your bag, and mail the rest home? That way, you’ve wasted nothing!
