make sure when you create the key frame that the bullseye and time marker are in their starting position then you have to scrub the time marker to its ending point before you move the bullseye again

Good job money don't sweat the haters i learn a lot there's a lot of video's that are 10 plus minutes long that are not worth the time "Yours" worth every minute some fakes don't know swagger when they hear it or see it let alone be it.

Have you tried to pre-compose the text, and apply the effect to the composition itself (and not the textbox)?

try to right-click on the text layer, then chose 'Pre-compose'. Now you can duplicate the layer and put some effects, everything should be fine. I also have the cs6 and this is a little difference between cs5. Hope that i help ;)

Hey! Great tutorial. But i have a problem! I'm sort of new to AE. So the light some how gets a border around it. Its like a bounding box and it cuts off the light rays! Any idea?

I'm also having an issue with the effect being cut off outside of the text box. I've tried everything, to no avail. I've also had my professor recreate, step-by-step, this effect and he had the same result. Would you know of any fix for this? Thank you!

When I do this the effect of the blur just stays the same size as the object, so all it does is sill the square box around the object. The blue needs to go outside of that. How do I do this?

go to the effects and presets search bar and type in cc they should all pop up

I solved problem with effect being cut off outside of the text box. Click right to layer and choose 3D layer. I hope that help. Polish ciwilian.

ok so i figured it out i had to go to layer/new/adjustment layer and pull that block to the right spot.

aye man, nice tut, but i need help, with my text, the rays dissapear outside the text box, like text is there, rays are going up, where the top of the text is, that is where the rays will stop, can you please healp me, it will be greatly appreciated! :)

@GildedApp5, This is an excellent basic tutorial. Short and sweet. Concise, clear, and unpretentious. I've got light rays comin out of my After Effects now like theres no tomorrow. I've already added an optical flare to the first layer, switched it over to the add mode, and lookee-there I'm breathing some color into it. Renders slow but looks...very promising now. I have a new toy. Good Jawb. You get 1 atta-boy, and 1 like, for your imagination tweaking excellent tutorial.
