I’m looking at getting a thermoform sit inside for big lakes, the Mississippi River and Illinois River and also a rotomolded polyethylene sit on top, for fishing. I live in Pittsfield, IL which is 75 miles north of St.Louis, MO. I’ve watched some of your videos and you have the best information that I’ve come across. If I was in your area of Cali, I’d definitely come there. Sweet shop and thanks for the education of kayaks. Now to decide on the right paddles and gear. 👍

Dan - great info !! . Have watched many of your videos. Looking for a couple of Kayak recommendations to consider . Here is my scenario - I like how the sit inside feels to paddle and I want an ultralight --- but I do like to fish with light gear. I can go to 12'6" ...... I am short 5' 6" - I am in shape weight 165. I paddle and fish Coastal North Carolina inlets near the ocean.... so lots of current and have to navigate some tricky areas .. So open to ideas ...

Just bin researching light weight kayaks , I do have a slayer propel 10 which is awesome but even I wouldn't attempt to take it down some places I would like to which is why I am looking for a simple light weight yak I can take to these other places. Pelican has a good 35 to 45lb range , most of the one's under 40 are sit in , myself I prefer SOT , The pelican Pikes Run 100 Angler is 40lbs and a SOT , sentinel ect , also like the Hurricane Skimmer 10.6 but pricey , probably go with the Pikes Run 100 for what I am doing , great video.

You caught my attention talking about carrying the Eddyline inside a Subaru Outback. It might seem like an obvious question, but would it fit inside a 2017 Forester? I have an inflatable now, which I enjoy but I would like to upgrade without having to carry a hard shell boat on my roof. Lifting a boat over my head is problematic because of shoulder issues, but I really like the idea of the lightweight boat. Thanks and keep up the good work.

So I realize this video is a couple years old but maybe you can answer me back. I recently purchased a used Santee 116. Picked it up at a really good price. Do you carry any accessories specifically for the Santee at your shop? I feel I may have to replace the seat. Th back rest has seen a lot of wear. The yak I believe is a 2011 model. It has both a bow and stern hatch.

Do you know if manufacturers plan on offering thermal LT models in the near future? Thanks Dan!

John S mostly just the two mentioned. Others do it, but are at behind the technology. Jackson had an ultra light ABS Cuda and Kilroy both both were dropped. I think it comes down to lack of good info on the yaks. The Native Slayer 12 LT is a nice yak. Watch my video on it.

I was interested in getting a thermoform kayak for fishing because I wanted something light weight and efficient to paddle. The one that looks the best to me is the Eddyline c135 Stratofisher. My only problem is it seems like that kayak has been discontinued, do you happen to have any information on why it was discontinued or know of any news as to whether Eddyline is coming out with another fishing kayak similar to the stratofisher c135? I've seen the Caribbean 12/14 and didn't like either of those nearly as much. Can you recommend another kayak similar to the c135? Or do you think you will still be selling them 2-3 months from now after I've saved up enough? I'd be really interested in a video similar to this one about top of the line thermoform kayaks for fishing.

I wanted to ask, can you use these two kayaks as touring kayaks? and can these two handle some one foot waves in open water?
@gotsome45
@gotsome45 4 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Black yes they can but for touring you might want something with a bit of a built in or moulded fin so it tracks easier on the open water. I would love one of the ones in the video. I have 2 wilderness systems tsunami 14’ that my son and I used on a six day paddle some class 3&4 rapids, but harder to navigate the rapids cause of the damn fin, so it’s a trade off. I was gonna get 12’ version but wanted extra space. The ones in the vid look like they would be easier to navigate white water and still give room for multi day trips if needed.

There are factors to consider but in general yes I do feel like Eddyline is worth the money. If the Eddyline fits you well it’s going to have better paddling performance and definitely better durability. Hurricane does have very comfortable boats and they are lightweight and paddle fine. The Eddyline is just on a different level when it comes to feel on the water attention to detail.

Strange kayaks. They are not expeditions, fishing, or whitewater. What is its purpose?
@kenwebster5053
@kenwebster5053 2 жыл бұрын
Because I began kayaking in the 70s using fiberglass slalom style kayaks of 4m LOL by 60 cm beam and weighing 13-18 kg (30-40 lb) & actual comp boats of the day were carbon/Kevlar at less than1/2 that weight. Glass boats were more recreational. So, to me a 30-40 lbs is just a standard recreational kayak weight and anything above that is unacceptably heavy. Oh what horror those early PU tanks were at twice the weight of a glass boat! I never could understand why anyone would want one when the were twice the weight and more than twice the total expense or a weekend built glass boat, including mould hire, materials & tools. To my thinking at the time, you'd have to be a moron to fall for that. So, when you start talking about a lightweight kayak at 40 lb, I think you have to be joking. To me, it's not light weight at all, it's the absolute upper limit of acceptability for a recreational boat. In the scale of kayak history, western kayaks made just a generation before my time were pretty much canvas stretched over a cedar frame, then came stitch and glue plywood finished in marine Urethane, both of which were far lighter weight than fiberglass. I guess I'm an old guy but if I can't shoulder my kayak from car to water, over bollards, down bush tracks, dunes etc, forget it. Kayaking should be simple.
