It’s so far removed from what djs do, that likening it to DJing is actually probably very disrespectful. Vjing is a lot closer to DJing than what an LD does, unless the vj has actually made the content they are playing back and effecting.
@codingvio73837 ай бұрын
I never thought it was done manually during the show. RESPECT!
@FearDiamond7 ай бұрын
Yup! Its done manually and automatically depending on the DJ or band on stage
@spyder0277 ай бұрын
It depends where you are. Most concerts will preprogram lights. Where your going to see live lighting is in a club or somewhere with a DJ. I’m running lights live this weekend for a small band.

he mostly configures all the effects and stuff before hand you can even do it at home on your PC with the dot 2 program and then he selects what he wants to do on the screen and uses the faders to transition between the chases or presets. i never did anything this crazy so i could be missing stuff but its kinda that, the thing is knowing what will look good with the songs

I always wondered how its so perfectly synced. There is no way it could automized.
@spyder02717 күн бұрын
It’s actually not too hard to sync it to midi you just have to pre program everything which wouldn’t work with a dj

is it just reacting to the music playing or does the operator know the songs beforehand? Looks like a lot of stuff to manage
@ana-ww8yc Жыл бұрын
It’s actually kinda both since he has to know what songs will be performed in the concert and also has to see what the artist is doing on stage to make the lights react to the performance, it’s honestly a cool job to do
@rbgnx9 ай бұрын
I'm kinda late to this but you can see at the left of the video there's a macbook with different waveforms, well, thats exactly whats happening at the DJ booth on real time (he can see when the drop is coming, how long is the track, when is the other track playing etc.), but that's not always the case, most of the time LJs work blind, so basically, reacting to the music.
@lemmiix9 ай бұрын
@@rbgnx Ohhh yeah that makes sense! Thanks for the answer!
@random-ic9qd5 ай бұрын
You have thousands of possibilities to change the light and must know every song beforehand. With 95% of the songs, you simply know what's coming, as the individual styles usually differ little.
@dannyphantom415710 ай бұрын
I hate to ask but how much would you make for a gig like this?
@rbgnx9 ай бұрын
I think he's just the resident lighting operator, club looks pretty big and he is using an MA, so, per night around 150€ - 300€ could be fair.

always thought the lights are pre programmed to turn on at specific times / via sound
@therandomgamer274Ай бұрын
There are specific times where that actually happens we call it time code but when the DJ plays live we have only a general idea what they are going to play but the rest is manual.
@carlosquevedo27097 ай бұрын
From my aboslutely ignorance, why does it seems that you are handling it manually? Isn´t that all automatized or programmed? Nice video btw
@FearDiamond7 ай бұрын
Thats because the DJ changes the set every night, in some shows it is programmed but if its programed then you have to use a prerecorded set which some people don't like
@random-ic9qd5 ай бұрын
You have pre-programmed individual things, such as that the lights circle, then you still have a flicker that you put on it, and the color. In principle, you have hundreds of possibilities that you can pre-program and in the end only have to put together to create a reasonable show. Of course, this is even more complicated
