When it comes to lighting your wood burner, are you having difficulty getting your fire to roar as it should?
More often than not, it's down to how dry your logs are.
In this video Pete demonstrates how you can tell if they really are dry enough. He also shows how to use a moisture meter.

Great tips, I had this problem today, smoked like Billy Ho… I’m buying a moisture meter tomorrow. I’m also getting a log store 😂😂 mine is piled in the garage 😮 I’ve got a lot to learn!

Great video. Thanks. We are new to this and have found certain wood we have burns easier than others. In particular old skirting boards from the house burn really well. We have had a delivery of wood and are storing it under a tarpaulin but I guess that stops the airflow, also have some in the shed so will aim to move it. Thanks very much

Great video with excellent tips. I've had my stove only 2yrs so am still perfecting it but love it and having 1 installed was the best thing I've since buying my first home. You say about not storing the wood in garages whilst seasoning, how about storing the already seasoned and dry wood in garages? my log store is in the garage but all my wood is already dried below 20% so I'm guessing it's fine to store. I am thinking of starting my own seasoning though and putting a log store outside in the garden so I can Start seasoning myself for the future.

Greenhouse is a great wood store/drier. I can put fresh cut wood in it in the spring and by autumn it’s dry as a bone and splitting its self apart.

That’s good Greenhouses are not always the best because they are not as well vented. Obviously gets nice and warm though

I’ve got a shed load of old redwood I’ve acquired from years of refurbing old Victorian houses, very dry. Any advice on the best way to burn this wood and if I need to add some hardwood to it? Thanks, great channel.

I've had a new stove fitted on the top of the fire it's a 6" flue hole . It has been fitted using a 5" liner from the fire to the chimney. The company are telling me this is ok but the fire has no draw. I'm getting smoke back into the room. Do you have any advice. Thanks for any help you can give

What about flume temperature, I have a small stove and even one log can get the flume over 250c if I have to much air, what is the high temp I should be watching for

Hi, I bought a house that came with a small 5w wood burner. I bought kiln dried logs for the winter but a lot of them are quite large. Is it okay to just use one log with kindling, or can you let me know an easy way to split your logs?

Get yourself a Sealey foot operated log splitter, around £70, split your first log into 2 or 3 and let the fire get going. When the flames have died down, then you can start loading whole logs on to the glowing embers.
