Honestly I say this with love in my heart, no hate to Alex, but her getting this interview just goes to show how much having connections will do for you (her sister is worth 220 million as said on Forbes, founder of the Newsette, co-CEO with Selena Gomez for Wondermind, etc). There are so many authors that had sold millions of copies for their books this year and who have movie/show deals, who are extremely well known and popular, but no interview for them - but the writer whose book JUST came out gets one? Honestly it's just so discouraging to see how much easier it is to get attention for a book when you're already so rich and have connections. This isn't criticism of Alex btw, but I just wish, especially at a time where the economic gap between rich and poor is increasing so much, that the arts were more accessible and achievable as a career to 'normal' people.

I know you said no hate so same here no hate to you. This is coming from an actor who auditions for many things and hasn't gotten anything yet. The acting and writing industry is a whole game of luck. If you get seen by even someone for your work that is luck just as much as you get lucky to be seen by even just a couple people on tiktok. She got extremely lucky that booktok liked her book and thought it had the potential. The acting industry only wants to put out there what other people want to see so when universal saw that and saw other people wanted it, they were giving them what they want. Now like you said she has connections but what also she said is it took YEARS her sister helped her no less then she could herself. She got herself there only through the fact that she worked hard and followed her dreams even through failure and hurt. Once again no hate to youu 😁

My problem with this book is that the worldbuilding is very surface level, and the author just seems to make stuff up about the magic system as it goes along, early, it's said that the rules have magic blood, Alex seems to forget that, the MC has a teleportation device and she seems to forget about it too. Freak i think the unique abilities, the Flairs, were only introduced near the end of the book.

I bet Azul was only made into a black gay man at the very last second bc Alex found out that she didn't have either of those in her book and instead of raceswapping Cleo or Celeste (they literally look identical in their promo art), she decided to just combine them into one character...and then neglect that character and his entire kingdom until its "group picture time" with the rulers 😂

I don't remember how or when I realized who this girl is. She is really Alexandra Pierson, always know as Alex. I still don't understand why she uses Aster. Both Alex and Danny (twin sister) have been in numerous commercials for their father's Toyota commercials and their pictures on Billboard signs when they were younger. Knowing the schools they attended and where they lived, no doubt they have had connections. I am sure they have worked hard, but definitely easier with all of the connections, people, etc in their lives to get to where they are today/now.

She is definitely more of a master tiktok promoter and fast-talking salesperson than I thought! Shes certainly got a talent for crowdpleasing. Which confuses me all the more. I wonder why she pursued "creative" book writing in the first place (which resulted in Lightlark) as opposed to something like comedy or songwriting.

The book itself is...like The Hunger Games with magic. The "gimmick" is that the main character doesn't have powers but her competitors do. If you can get past the weird narration style she has (ex: "she ran like she was running away from something"), you might like the book!

I can tell no one here has actually read the book. It was mediocre, full of tropes, poor writing and prose, and the plot was all over the place. It always pays to have family that is already established and wealthy. It’s too bad authors will proper, edited and well-written work will never get this amount of attention. There are various reviews on Tiktok and KZfaq if anyone is wondering what the book is actually about. The premise was a good idea but the execution was extremely flawed.

Why does she want to ride on this fake rag to riches storyline? She’s literally the daughter of a millionaire. All these sob stories about her mom being an immigrant and dad not going to college doesnt really matter in her life a single bit. Shes also conveniently ignoring the fact that she has had her books published and released before. As for Lightlark, what a horrendously written Mary Sue mess. It’s so full of plotholes and tropes. I hope real good authors with no connections or millions of dollars also get invited to be on this show. Maybe an actual rag to riches story for once.
