that moment of twilights fights with the other main 6 always makes me cry. Especially in the context of all the episodes before the movie.

When Twilight lashed out at her friends, it opened old wounds for me. I couldn't help but feel angry at Twilight in this moment, but I still cried bitter tears with her. I've been on both sides of this situation. And poor Pinkie, the pony who has been with Twilight since the beginning, was the one who had to face her. Truly, the most raw scene in all of MLP.

I would have sworn that Blissy had already covered this.

I absolutely loved this movie. The animation was awesome, the story was well written, and we got to see places beyond Ponyville and Canterlot. The only thing I didn’t like was how Twilight acted. I get she was stressed due to having to save the other Princesses and Equestria, but that didn’t excuse the way she treated her friends. Don’t get me wrong, Twilight is one of my favorite characters, but I feel she could have handled things better. I did feel bad for Tempest. She was rejected by her friends after the Ursa Major attacked her and that hurt her even worse than having her horn broken. You did a great job with the review, Blissy, and I look forward to seeing the G5 movie when it’s released. The trailer looks awesome and I’m definitely curious about the movie itself and what kind of adventures the new ponies will have.

They're the ones who lost the ball into the cave. They're the ones who insisted Tempest go in and get it instead of getting an adult to. They're the reason she got attacked by the Ursa Minor and lost her horn... and yet they treated her like it was all her own fault and abandoned her because of the difficulties she was having controlling her magic because of THEY'RE actions and not taking ANY responsibility for being the cause of Tempest's troubles. Those ponies were truly horrible ponies, so I can't blame Tempest for developing her mindset at all

Spike was a total SOLDIER in this movie. I love how the movie let's him kill 2 of the Storm king's guard's!

I liked this movie (could've been better tho), I watched this movie back in 2019 on Hulu and I liked it (this was before I fully watched the show in 2020, and the first EG movie was my introduction in 2016 and I watched some episodes from 3-6 scattered between 2016-2017). I likes the animation since this is a better way to combine 3D settings and 2d Characters (Unlike Top Cat the Movie and that movie was just a mess) and I do like the new characters (except Grubber and to some extent Storm King) and it has some pretty good music.

Might as well review 1980's MLP film as well, but that's a whole different can of worms

This review was totally awesome Blissy, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the mlp movie with us and i agree with some of the things you said, especially about Twilight's behavior many fans thought she was so out of character in the mlp movie and the part where Twilight says-"I would've been better off without friends like you." not only is it heartbreaking it's also all kinds of wrong, i mean hearing anypony else say it is different but when it's coming from the so called "Princess of Friendship" it's just not right which is what made a lot of people think "Some Princess of Friendship Twilight is"...and as for Tempest i remember when she revealed her real name, and i can see why she changed it she wanted ponies to fear her, and she wasn't getting anywhere with a name like Fizzlepop Berrytwist, i mean i think it's an awesome name but i'm sure you know what i mean.

Great review, almost did wonder why you haven’t done this yet but better late than never. I haven’t seen the movie but I seen enough clips of it to get the story. I did love the songs, may not be the biggest G4 fan but the songs were fantastic, especially “Open up Your Eyes” (can really relate to that one).

While I’m not a fan of how Twilight acted, I understand why she was acting this way--she was the only ruler of her country that wasn’t captured yet and being targeted. Not only that, but being outside equestria where friendship wasn’t really a factor in anyone’s lives and therefore cautious to trust anyone (especially Capper and the pirates). Not only THAT but her friends weren’t taking her seriously and basically screaming ‘hey! We’re over here!’ Especially the rainboom. Then…after all that, she and her friends finally make it to the one who can help them and what does she say? ‘Nope can’t help. Bye’ Desperate, she has her friends distract Skystar and Novo in a way she knows they’ll love and tries to steal the pearl because how was she supposed to know that Novo would change her mind? Twilight had a lot of pressure on her and it was just one bad thing after another for her So honestly I’m not even mad at Twilight for her actions. Her friends really should have understood the pressure she was under and not come at her like they did. But that’s just my opinion

I FILPPIN ADORE AND IDOLIZE THE MAJOR FILM, SURPASSING TO INFINITY OF COURSE! I utterly agree with you on those certain aspects, pertaining to the film of course. Stupendous animation (implying the landscape and well-textured display too), deliriously cast portrayers, a decent, yet amusing story and character development arcs. Tempest Shadow (a.k.a Fizzlepop Berrytwist) a tragic, sentimentally despaired villain who is now corruptible who now is on the verge of seeking for a practical and eerie object to satisfyingly resurrect her shattered horn. The Storm King, despite a lack of exposition from the prime antagonist’s desperate desire for unfathomable power and eternal tyranny, (which by the way there’s a prequel, prior to the MLP film, in the distinguished graphic novel), yet beneficially, it implies to the embodiments which be resembles: arrogance, pompous, malevolence and dictatorship, and BTW (BY THE WAY IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW FROM BEFORE) he is tremendously humorous at presentable times in the film, which betrayed her apprentice by exploiting her is absurd and redundant. Also it would’ve been different by collaterally putting in a single bounty hunter for an interesting subplot, purloining the mystic pearl, instead of Twilight making a tactical mistake, subsequently they discuss in the hindsight, self-doubting and faithless herself and her friends, letting her tensions, inhibitions, and arrogance render her to being delirious, which is from her belief, so like from the Clone Wars with Baras Offen & Raya from well Raya and the Last Dragon, from what they found a conceivable belief that trust is overrated, and that the only thing the Jedi, the rest of the distinctive clans, and the Bad Lands beyond the vast land of Equestria, what they believe is brutal violence and drastic infliction. And WHAT THE HECK!, how bout altering the line “WELL MAYBE I’D BE BETTER OF WITHOUT FRIENDS LIKE YOU!”, that was undoubtedly the most excessive line being put into the contextual dialogue. The songs were uplifting, joyous, and harmonious in a depressing time of skepticism and despair, from proficient singers, actors & actresses, my prime favorite out of the entire film was Rainbow, performed by Sia, and the rest of the songs were rendered in customization, utilization, & optimization, which I’m now calling the CUO, my authentic trademark, don’t intend on ripping me off, okay? GOOD. And the battle scenes with keen CGI were dazzling and drastically exciting, and how the prime noble heroes descended in gloom and emotional depression and briefly made up by reconciling with each other in consistent harmony and faith, and a altruistic deed was ensued by Tempest for a momentous time of self-redemption and character development had been downright fulfilled, that beneficially she optimized the most spectacular spectacle out of her shattered unicorn horn, and her immense satisfaction was fulfilled wonderfully. The triumphant ending was spontaneous, cunning out of virtues, merits and conceits in the characters and an interesting plot twist is conveyed out of the character and Pinkie Pie ecstatically shouted out in sheer excitement and joy for sincerely complimenting her real vivid name for be the utmost name of all time EVER! (Which evoked and discerned me of the best day ever from SpongeBob, and his authentic and empirical excitement). So concisely, in summation, IT IS A DECENT AMUSING FILM OUT OF ONE THE UTMOST FILMS OF 2017, (DESPITE A COUPLE OF BLAND, NEUTRAL, AMD DULL FILMS OF THAT ASPECTUAL YEAR ITSELF). What was special about seeing this movie on The Big Screen, is that it's a 2D Animated Movie. We have been getting WAY too much CGI Films, that we barely see any 2D Animated Films come out in Theaters anymore. I don't mind CGI Animated Films, but I miss seeing 2D Films in Theaters. I'd love too see it Coexist with 3D Animated Movies again, rather than Mostly ditching it for 3D Animation. As for The Movie, I liked it, it was Number 3 on My Top 10 Movies of 2017.

I liked the animation, I liked the songs, I liked Tempest. And that was it. The princesses do nothing, except for Cadance who manages one shield. The Royal Guard, the Wonderbolts, Shining Armor, and Starlight are flat out missing. The mane six were far too timid. For the regular pony on the street, that attitude to these invaders is fine. But the mane six have spent seven seasons fighting baddies way worse then Tempest and her Stormland minions, let alone the residents of Kudge town. This isn't even their first invasion. Twilight's a magical powerhouse and yet in the whole movie she casts like seven spells. All of them either normal TK, light spells, or basic concussive blasts. She never teleports, despite that being one of her signature spells, and never does anything powerful or clever with her magic at all. The whole thing with Queen Novo and the pearl was stupid and should have been dumped. Twilight says she wants it to transform ponies into more powerful creatures. Disregarding that ponies are already pretty powerful with their racial magics and the problem is actually their timidity, she already has a spell that can do exactly that, it's the same one she used to turn them into breezes. The Storm King was a terrible villain who didn't have enough screen time to be workable. He should have been dropped outright in favor of Tempest being the big bad. Fluttershy, Applejack, and Spike do basically nothing. Rarity wins over Capper, Pinkie wins over the Hippogriffs, and Rainbow wins over the pirates, and that's their sole contribution to the story. The movie was too busy introducing new locations and new characters to actually focus on the characters we were there to see. I much prefer Rainbow Roadtrip to this movie as it has just as nice animation and music, tells a much better story with a focus on the mane six, and everyone is in-character as well.

The animation is great, the characterization for the most part was on point, there are some good jokes and Tempest is really cool. However the movie is kind of fragmented. It's just one thing after the other and it never slows down. Like they wanted to cram as much marketing as possible into it. Also them leaving Twilight when they did straight up makes no sense. In Canterlot wedding she could have just set out the wedding as punishment but here they are in the middle of nowhere. Even if they are angry just leaving Twilight is not an option. Also I don't think it was OOC for Twilight. She is very dedicated and I have no issue believing she would resort to underhanded methods if she believed the stakes called for it. They can't afford to spend weeks waiting for the queen to make up her mind. What I like most by far is the choreography. It really feels like ponies fighting especially Tempest.

12:55 I agree. I really don't like when villains do evil things that really are against their interests. Also they could have easily just spinned it that restoring her horn is utterly impossible and he was just taking advantage of her desperation. I also kind of share the headcanon of Tempest becoming Twilight's personal guard. A nice scene could have been Twilight doing that but spinning it to safe face. Like forced labor under direct princess supervision. Tempest is a very driven individual so she would actually welcome a forced labor sentence. With the storm army gone and the quest to restore her horn dead forever giving her a forced labor sentence would be a kindness. It will give her a purpose and keep her from being alone.

My only nitpick about the movie was Twilight...or more specifically, her behavior. Not only was she showing small signs of perfectionist behavior that remind me a little bit of Lesson Zero Twilight but the scene where she yells at Pinkie REALLY had me shaking my head at her. I mean, sure; she was under a lot of pressure to make things right again. But when faced with a moment of crisis; it's the mark of a good leader to remain calm, collected and open-minded to multiple ideas towards getting the job done. Throughout the movie; we've seen instances of this with Capper, the Pirates and even Queen Novo and the Hippogriffs...and Twilight dismissed ALL of them. It's always been a pet peeve of mine whenever a character acts like they are the only ones with "all the answers." This is the reason why I hate characters like Iron Man, Batman, Lisa Loud, Brian Griffin, Marge and/or Lisa Simpson; just to name a few. These characters all exhibit the same faults Twilight shown here; a narrow outlook on a situation, a perfectionist attitude and worst of all, they live under the impression that THEY are the smartest person in the room. There's always going to be someone out there who will see through your strategy and beat you, at some point. Which is why it's important to think outside the box and do something the enemy WON'T expect. That's why I think the rest of the Mane 6 did better at handling the drama than Twilight. But that's just me

I enjoyed this movie for what it was, my favourite movie characters are Skystar and Tempest, they were enjoyable to watch and Kristin Chenoweth and Emily Blunt brought their A game to their voice performances ^^ The animation was great at times especially during the One Small Thing Number, but it was greatly improved when the Rainbow Roadtrip special came out ^^ Great video as always Blissy ^^

I was not really a fan of the Storm King when i first saw him. Over the years it changed to i like him much more and even see him as a great villain. Even if we only got a short moment with him in the end of the movie, then the mane 6 and Spike's adventure showed how the Stormking's ruling worked, which gives us a bit more of his character. Military Skills: Even if he don't command his own army, he still knows how to organise them and make them truly effective. The soldiers was truly intimidating, strong, fast and also effective to spread panic and confuse the victims. What another great move is that his airships was able to fly into Equestria without any pony warned the ponies in Canterlot about it. Sure thanks to the smoke effects the airships hide in, they could invade Canterlot before the ponies could react. Rumors of his tactical skills must had a huge effect on the hippogriff's, since his name alone is enough to terrify them. Ruling: Here and there we got small pieces of how he was able to make control over his conquered areas. A great mix of intimidating, propaganda and rules. Intimidating by his guards there just their look alone makes the creatures from Kludgetown scared. The propeganda part was clear with the cargo on the pirates ship, where we saw figures and other merchandise. A reminder to the servants that he is the king and the same time earns extra money for it. The pirates also showed a rulebook there is the instructions to his servants how to act and work, which is actually a pretty great move to keep control over others. It's also give some kind respect to him, since it shows the Stormking is organised. Else his character there had some silly moments showed he also had some personality, humor and more. So he was not just a bad guy just to be bad. Okay he sure was a lot, but at least here was more than that. xD

The hype is real!

One thing that shocked me about the movie, is how the Storm King bit the dust so to speak, like no lie when I saw his statue get shattered, I was like (Did they seriously just off a character in My Little Pony)?

As a finale it´s okay, but as a movie for the show - nah. I remember being so excited due to some "leaks" but then those epic lore things never happened. There was something about Celestia and Lunas brother Cosmos and the origins of alicorns.

Not to mention the movies story line was excellent instead of it being bad the plot, animation, story line, and most of the characters mixed together perfectly like how water comes together to form a smooth flowing river.

So am I the only one that was happy that the show finally addressed Twilight’s trust issues that have been festering since the Canterlot Wedding? It might have been three years between episode and movie but for me it was the most rewarding. To be honest, that episode had shattered the trust between them ever since, at least as far as I could see.

Has it been 4 YRS!!!!😲 I feel old, and I'm only (almost) 20!

Personal Opinion Time! Not trying to contradict Bliss, just adding my two bits to the discussion. Artwork & Style: I personally prefer the style of the main show and Equestria Girls, but I can admit that this new stuff looks gorgeous. Music: What can I say? FiM/EG could _always_ knock it out of the park in terms of music, even if some of the songs weren’t to my liking. If you can’t tell from my avatar, my favorite has gotta be Open Up Your Eyes, with Capper’s song coming in a close second. Story - Overall: And here’s where the positive vibes start getting muffled. To me, it feels like they had 3 separate plots they wanted to do, ran out of time to develop just one, and smooshed all of them together. So I’ll tackle them one at a time. Story - Plot 1: Obviously, the main plot is Tempest Shadow and the invasion of The Storm King’s army. Thus feels like the most fleshed out of all the plot threads. My only real problem with it is TSK. He feels like a poor attempt to recreate Discord’s one-of-a-kind charm. I think I’d have preferred Tempest being the leader of the army, seeking the power of the Alicorns to remake her horn, but then she gets betrayed by TSK. Story - Plot 2: The Hippogryphs/Hippocampi. Oh boy. See, this _SHOULD_ have been its own movie. Like, anybody remember Atlantis: The Lost Empire? Imagine that, but Ponies. A journey to find and restore an ancient ally of Equestria. More Indiana Jones and less MacGuffin. Story - Plot 3: Capper and the pirates probably could have been their own movie, if not the main antagonist of the Hippogryph movie. And compared to the other two plot threads, this one feels like it was tacked on last minute for the sake of filler. So that’s my thoughts! You're a lot more kinder to this movie then me Bliss. The issues you had with this movie were the same issues I had, only they lowered my opinion of it dramatically. I did enjoy the experience of watching this movie with some local bronies and I did enjoy some moments, but the chars' performances were brought this movie down. Twilight's desperate attempt to steal that pearl, I nearly blew a fuse in the movie theater. It's moments like this why she's one of my least fav chars from Gen 4. I honestly didn't blame Twi for being wary of the new chars, but at the same time, she still could have been a bit nicer in her delivery. I actually found the music to be a bit lackluster. I guess my expectations were too high seeing how I knew Daniel Ingram had a bigger budget for the score. And I tried not to, but I couldn't help but compare this movie to Gen 1's movie. I found the chars there more enjoyable to watch, the adventure itself wasn't 'paint by numbers', the music for me was more catchy, and the climax felt more satisfying. That's just me though. The only thing I will give Gen 4's movie over this one is the animation was amazing for the most part (few of the 3D parts I felt didn't entirely match with the 2D, like the Storm King's ship). I would give this movie a rating a 5/10. I am glad I watched it but the flaws prevent me from wanting to rewatch it.

Skystar was my favorite movie character. Although her mom needed a refresher on establishing royal relations. Like what she did was the equivalent of Harry Potter learning about Voldimort and being all, no.

Loved the movie but I would have liked to know more about the world when Twilight and the gang ventured outside of Equestria. Though that may be just the lore nerd within me wanting to know more about there world. Especially about the MLP equivalent of Mos Eisley.

If there's one thing that bothered me, it's that they switched out the opening scene that would've explained the lore behind the show in a dramatic fashion for a rendition of "They've Got the Beat." I mean, come on! If you're going to have an opening song instead of that cool opening, at least open up with something original for any non fans to sink their teeth into! Give them a glimpse of the musical talent behind the main show! Preferably one that actually goes into the show's lore that's going to pertain the the movie!

Very nice Video. I thoroughly enjoy the movie. I got the blu ray, which is rare for me. I think the idea with Storm King was that he's the Emperor to Tempest's Darth Vader. We don't see the Emperor that much either in the OG Star Wars either. So we have a sympathetic villain and one who's the opposite. I wasn't sure about Tempest being betrayed, cuz it was pretty obvious, but I also had this idea that Tempest without any real genuine bonds, only relies on just shallow business connections with Storm King, which ends up backlashing for her, so it makes sense. That's what she means when she says "dont count on anyone". But at the same time, every true villain has a hidden hypocrisy, by design. So she was relying on someone in a different shape and form even if she didn't want to admit it.

tbh, open up your eyes really got to me because just like what tempest sung about her friends i got abandoned by mine when i needed them the most.

ah yes I'd remembered the 2017 My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Movie and LOVED It and I'd remembered seeing on the weekend around my birthday with my girlfriend back in 2017 and it was most magical birthday weekend I'll Never forget it and still have it on Blu-Ray and it is the Best Animated movie based on the series of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic with Nice upgraded animation Great Villains of Tempest Shadow voiced brilliantly by Emily Bunt and the Storm King with Great Songs with some Disney elements witch gave me vibes of Treasure Planet mixed with The Little Mermaid it may have it's flaws But it's NOT a perfect movie But it's still a Good movie with re-watch value Great Review Lighting Bliss I look forward to the New MLP G5 movie coming to Netflix

What I like: 1) The way they built up to the title. That little spark flies in and dances about, sliding across the edges of the super-zoomed in title while the music continues to swell. I know it's coming! I know they're going to play the melody! And then finally, the title is shown and 🎵DA-DA-DA-DAAA-DAAAAAAAAAA DU-DU-DU-DUUU-DUUUUUUUU! I still love that intro sequence! 2) The songs were all right, too. The only ones I didn't like were the beginning _(Ponies Got the Beat)_ and the ending _(Rainbow)_ songs. My favorites were _Awesome_ and (sorry Bliss) _Open Up Your Eyes._ What I DIDN'T like: 1) Spike's "whuddjoo talkin' bout" Oh, that is SO CRINGE!!!! Gary Coleman's been dead since 2010! Could this just please die, too? 2) Tempest's smug condescending tone when talking to others is really fukking grating. I have to fast-forward through much of her dialogue because I just can't stand her tone!

I’m incredibly frustrated with myself for not seeing this movie in theaters. I wasn’t interested in it back in 2017, and I didn’t see it until I got curious in 2018 after hearing positive things from KZfaqrs I liked. I ended up really liking the film, which led me to watch the series and become a brony. The film definitely has flaws, but I think it’s a great gateway for someone who wants to get into the show. It’s one of my favorite movies, and I hope I can watch it in a theater at some point.

Three things I really hate is that discord, starlight, or even the changelings weren't included in this movie. Another thing the amination wasn't like the TV version but thats the least right now. And the last thing is that the movie characters such as capper, the pirates and the porcupine weren't in the TV series afterward. Tempest was the only one shown on TV but was just showing her appearance and not saying a word.

The villains in this film were the worst part for me. If I had to rewrite them, then I would make Tempest the "MAIN!" villain, while the storm king acts as another sidekick. However, his role would’ve started out as some magician to drain the alicorn magic and, plot twist, betrays Tempest and reeks havoc before being defeated by Twilight and the gang. That's what I think could’ve worked better in the film.

I say MLP The Movie basically has the same quality as a Don Bluth film: Low budget, simple, yet catchy songs, near-cliché plot, but what makes up for it all is the charm.

I personally enjoyed the movie 🎥🍿but felt they could have done better by having the Storm King have more of a presence throughout the film to reinforce the fact he’s the villain of the film. Tempest had more screen time than he did. It was nice to have another reformed character come out of this movie but I agree with you that G4 has already done that in the show. I agree with you the whole movie was epic. I have to also admit Twilight being as she was was hard to watch some what. Although the songs were epic exspeshily the opening one. I love how they took We got the beat by the go gos and pontified it. The othe songs had me and as for the villain back story song I can enjoy it but it is a strange way of telling a back story. I loved the all the characters it is a pity that thy never made appearances in the show in later episodes. I also agree not seeing The Storm King till the end was a bummer. I was also hoping it was going to be more of a chase to catch the main crew. But I love re-watching it.

Me and my family have noticed the song was a bit slow we put it on 1.25 speed and it sounded a lot better

It's unfortunate that the majority of Storm King was relegated to the comic tie-in. Oh and are we really gonna ignore the one itsy bitsy little thing you forgot to mention about him? STORM KING LITERALLY DIES AT THE END.

Great review as usual Bliss, this movie leaves me feeling conflicted on how it's cannon in season 8 of the show it's a very well animated movie with a good story especially for lionsgate (the same folks who infamously gave us norm of the north) however they made Twilight uncharacteristically dumb and bitchy, starting when she misunderstands Celestia and thinks she says hippo queen and she actually tries to find the queen of the hippos as though she just forgot Discord someone with the power of a god or for that matter the dragons are their allies now all so they could have that whoreish moment on the shore when they say hungry hungry hippos a game "coincidentally" owned by Hasbro but it also has the best and most sympathetic minor villain ( thank the gods because the main villain storm douuchebag is so one-dimensional ans hated) but tempest is the most sympathetic sympathetic vilian I've ever seen I really wanted her to getther horn back and felt her pain when she was betrayed by that douchebag also I really respect the professional actor Emily Blunt sang open up your eyes it's one of only two times a professional actor sang in their animated move instead of having professional singer do it they were Emily Blunt here both oddly equine films and Mia Farrow in the last unicorn.

This is overall an above average experience for me. There are plenty of positives like the upgraded animation and world building. But the re are too many plot lines and characters often aren't given enough to do. Honestly, after watching Dr Wolf's video on the storm king this movie has been something that disappointments me (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNOTqbh-3cvbemw.html). Because the more I think about it, the more that I realize the movie couldn't have just been good, it could've been one of the best stories that MLP has ever told.

I thought the movie was real good, one drawback i had with of the movie. Where were Equestrians Royal guard during the time of StormKings invansion! On vacation leave? lol i mean it was a festival i can understand but you'd think that the plotline would invovle the royal guard to fight them off! Other than it was a good movie!
