Thank you Janine for another informative post. With the latest releases of Lightroom Classic the use of the "masks" have become very powerful. The use of Lightroom as a raw editor has it's limitations. However, it is all that is needed for 90% of my work. This is good because it takes me as long to complete 1 image in Photoshop as it does to complete 9 images in Lightroom. In addition, photoshop and other pixel editors output files other than the original raw file and add time, complexity and the duplication of files to the export/import processes. Awesome table! BTW.

You pretty much summed it up... while it has its limitations I don't think we need much more either - and on top of it you can always use photoshop as a secondary editor... cheers Janine

Thank you Janine, I have also figured out how to deemphasise the background but have never been comfortable with gradient masks. I will now try those to make the abrupt changes more realistic.

Hi J anine: What a great video and instructional lesson in editing..... When I saw the Masking took innovation, I was excited, but the more I use it, especially in combination with brushes etc, it took my work to another level. Great work, and big hugs to all you guys. Take care and be safe out there...😊

I’m a National Geographic Yourshot photographer-I was thought to take your best shot an add very little editing as nationalgeographic will only accept these images. I don’t think I’ll ever get to this level of editing as I love the challenge of taking a great shot.

That should be the goal of every photographer.... but as you must know very well... nature is often rather uncooperative irrespective of the photographic skills. This was just a tutorial to show people what can be done... but I command your discipline and goal. cheers Janine

I really have to thank you, Janine, and all of Pangolin for your wonderful videos. New to Lightroom, your beginner's course really has helped me get started. I have found one situation that I'm unsure of how to handle, though. Sometimes I have an image for which I'd like to use more than one editing approach, and would like to be able to save the editing history for each separately. I've also found that sometimes I may edit an image up to a point and then want to take it in 2 varying directions from that same point to create different effects that I may want to return to for additional editing or exports. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi Janine, please can you help, I see that you do most of your editing on laptops, what sort of calibration do you use or is there an angle of the screen that you know is calibrated. I tend to edit then the next day look at it and re edit as it is dark or too contrasty.

Thanks Janine, really useful. Previously I’ve been doing masking / brushes etc in PhotoShop - it looks like you are using mostly Lightroom; which parts of the workflow do you still do in PhotoShop? Thanks
@PangolinWildlife

Hey David, the dodging tool and if need be (only for prints / not for competitions) the healing brush is a lot more advanced in photoshop. If you need to do stacking for astro photography photoshop is great and if you need to get rid of artefacts from Topaz you can use it with different layers in photoshop. But generally I just don't have the time of the day to spare to go into so much depth... if a image cannot be edited in 5 min, I usually get rid of it. cheers Janine

Thanks Janine but I still cant get my Pics from my hard Drive to Light Room >> goes straight to Camera RAW then to Photoshp when opening after preliminary RAW conversion stuff in Camera RAW?? I need a Private Teacher just for 2 hours to sort all this out once Covid is Gone

Hi Peter, Camera Raw is connected straight to photoshop... you would have to use Lightroom for your organisation and prelminary RAW conversion. Maybe check out my tutorial that is for free on lightroom? cheers Janine
