What about that beautiful thing... gorgeous... just by looking it is amazing... can't imagine this playing in the wrong way... and if do wrong... is so easy to fix by changing and tweaking until reach the perfection... what a pleasure task.

I'm so glad to have found this channel. Your videos have been very informative. I have a few questions if I may. 1. Why did you choose the silver 8 to run in parallel to the f18 vs a fast 8 or a Betsy 8 I saw in other videos? 2. Does the 4 ohm load that results from running in parallel create a problem for the Alan Eaton 45 monos? 3. What crossover settings are you running the W18 at? I'm hearing all kinds of numbers out there ranging from 500hz down to 90hz. Thank you so much.

I know having a speaker with two tweeters causes acoustic problems. How does this work using two drivers that each have whizzer cones? I don't fully understand full range drivers. ... Great set up!

Are the subs also "open baffle" ? Is the Lii audio coaxial (middle driver) a coaxial driver?

Hey drD 🤔 where can I find your follow-up video with the sound samples? I don’t see a post on your YT channel.

Okay so you're aware, the last two weeks we made some recordings in this same room with video demos comparing these open baffles along with the Klipsch Forte and Heresy IV's. I'm editing the videos now and should have it uploaded shortly. Thanks for watching, it won't be long.

You have a truly world class DAC. To me it bests the lampizator horizon easily. Roll a pair of GEC KT66 in there if you can. I like better than the KT150 (never tried KT170 though) for everything other than bass.
@nrab7739 ай бұрын
Thanks, how are you familiar with this DAC? Do you have the previous version built by Al at Space Tech Labs?
@nrab7739 ай бұрын
The KT170 added a ton of air and spaciousness to the sound stage but I’ll take a look at the GEC KT66’s.
@wwtmk9 ай бұрын
@@nrab773 Yes, I have the previous flagship model before this one. I was at Al's showroom auditioning other gear and was able to listen to this DAC as Al was putting the final touches on it. How do you like this DAC compared to others you've owned or audiotioned?
@nrab7739 ай бұрын
Ok now I understand how you’re familiar with this DAC as its the first Al has built. It’s the best DAC I’ve ever heard, I’ve got a $20k solid state DAC and Al’s leaves it far behind. I’ve owned and tested multiple DAC’s from $500 to $20k and nothing comes close to Al’s masterpiece. I replaced all the stock tubes with the best new and NOS tubes I could find it and took the sound quality up quite a few notches. Al’s propiety 8 times analogue up sampling tube array is pretty amazing as you probably know. Putting the best NOS tubes into this section was expensive but took that DAC to another level. What’s been your experience with yours? @@wwtmk

Have you done any measurements? I am not an “objectivist audiophile” but if design speakers you need to know what you are doing and measuring visualizes it.
@phrayzar6 ай бұрын
You will get a significant change in the sound if you add 2 x 18" woofers to any system won't you. The problem that I have with this open baffle design using several sized full range speakers is that the same can be achieved with less drivers in a cabinet surely.
@drde40106 ай бұрын
I generally use cabinet speakers myself at home because they have a warm midrange however, we recently acquired a new amplifier with crossover to drive these 18" and what a world of difference it made. The midrange is surprisingly warm and syrupy for an open baffle speaker. The only issue with box speakers is in order to match the open detail, air and soundstage, it would require a pretty large box speaker which can be costly to match.
@davewin17929 ай бұрын
Not sure if you've done this. You should shim the drivers so they're even with the front of the baffle. The recessed depth may be a negative? or not.
@drde40109 ай бұрын
Yeah, there’s been some discussion about this, but I did another video and we did some tests both ways and we really struggled to hear any difference but I thought the same thing you did too.

Fantastic build. I'm sure they sound great.@@drde4010

I’d leave them recessed but add a 45 degree chamfer that ends about 1/4” in front of the drivers mounting flange. They are though absolutely stunning looking 👍🏻

Hy Dr. I use open baffle and i like it 2 x 15 and a 8inch with hornwaveguide..... I dont understand why are you all running in parallel. W18 f18 s8 all paralell? Interferences everywhere. From the w18. Example . I want to do such a project. Can you explain why all paralell is working. And please sound demos.

How do the open baffles compare to 1.7i’s? Do the open baffles need a sub?
@drde40106 ай бұрын
Both are amazing. The open baffles have subs built into the same baffle and as a result do everything nicely and more bottom end. Baffle was twice the price though so the 1.7i are still amazing speakers.
