Everytime I'm having a bad day I come back to this talk.

No other talk in General Conference has stuck with me the way this one has. Thank you, Elder Holland, for sharing this with everyone. This talk has been an instrument in saving my life in the past, and continues to uplift me to this day. Again, thank you.

At the present time we as a family are currently going through the refiners fire, with illness to my beautiful dear wife Helen. it's very much a challenge to us, I just had to come and listen to this beautiful talk by elder Holland. such comfort we experience as we feel God's love for his children. and it is a perfect love which we as, a family are thankful for.

My wife has been crippled from a traumatic brain injury for 12 years now. Mostly bedridden, sometimes ok, often somewhere in between. Priesthood blessings have promised healing…..but not necessarily in this life. For years we have faced the darkness. For years we have trudged on. She watches her children grow up almost without her. More of a patient than a wife and mother she has struggled with depression and anxiety in addition to the physical limitations. She wants to go home but she hasn’t given up. Together we will face this trial and any others that Heavenly Father sees fit. This talk is a summation of the knowledge we have gleaned from these 12 years. Faith in the Lord. Take the little victories. Never give up. We look forward to the eternal promises.

It is as though he is speaking directly to me. My wife had an ongoing affair and got pregnant, I lost my job, I suffer from panic attacks and severe depression. I feel there is no hope. This talk reminds me that there is hope. God bless you Elder Holland. I love you.

I have had anxiety and depression, my entire life, 59 years. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. It is so crippling no matter how hard you try.

I heard a General Conference talk recently that was given probably around 30 years ago. In that talk, the speaker was warning of trusting therapists too much, saying that some of the practices of the time were not good, and was encouraging members to approach bishops and others for help. I would not be surprised if there were other, even many other, such talks (usually talks tend to have repeating themes, I’ve noticed). I believe that one of the reasons this talk here was so powerful when he gave it was because it was such a relief for so many to have mental illness and therapists discussed in this light. It has taken time for the social sciences to improve (that is my field), like it takes time for all things to improve, and it is such a relief and a comfort to know that therapists and others are now able to be utilized, and that the stigma of mental illness is almost gone. Now, we hear this talk and think it’s rather normal. Be grateful that it feels that way. God inspired him to give this talk for a reason. It felt revolutionary at the time he gave it.

I am a broken vessel needing many repairs!!! Problem is, the more i look myself n past in the mirror the more im faced with to change... Things keep surfacing as i grasp more truth and this is not easy!!! We will be faced with overcoming ourselves. Hardest thing ever!!!!! Ever!!!! What i know is this, you have to seek the help being offered or you may suffer unessessarily because of yourself!!! Following rules is much easier than dealing with consequences that come with poor choices...its hard to face regret!!! Best to follow good rules that promote goodness n fairness!!!

5:14 This is one of the hardest to stay faithful. What I believe comes in conflict to what I am experiencing. During the blackest depths of anguish, where the Spirit cannot be felt, no guidance received, and no comfort given, I feel abandoned and forgotten at best and the victim of a cruel joke at worst. These thoughts are completely against everything I've been taught, but to reject these thoughts and stay faithful is like denying that the sky is blue. The false becomes its own reality. I'm crawling out of the darkness, but resigned myself that happiness may take another four years to regain.

My personal favorite talk of all time. Love this man so much. Thank you Heavenly Father for such devoting and amazing leaders.

My stake pres thought to have me check out this talk. Elder Holland is a real big help with this talk because his compassion and understanding is felt very much by those of us who are CONSTANTLY told: You just need to pray more. You just need to have a better attitude. You should LISTEN to the church leaders and BE POSITIVE, you should follow how Christ acts & thinks... ALL of that is true, but when you're in the depths of mental darkness, and possibly wishing to not be around, the last thing you need is cliche advice and Sunday school answers to push you over the edge. Being accepted and around people who were educated and helpful, made me better. I got better just because they saw who I was, and cared enough to help. And they had a good time doing so, so they were positive and lifted me up rather than rejecting and getting me down. Maybe what we face is more normal than we think.

This talk is pure gold.

We all have the right to succeed….those with mental illness have the right to overcome and be treated normally again. If not, walk away from those who never seemed to know you, because of the lack of education. If they never change, you have to get away. The problem is with them, not in you. But forgive them in the process. Maybe that is an illness to them. Be with those you can be one with, for that is what we are taught to do, and be.

I suffer from bipolar 2. I am currently meeting with the missionaries, I know the church is true and I am getting baptised in a few weeks. I have been having a particularly difficult time recently and this was the message I needed to hear. I love how this church has compassion for and accepts people like me, imperfect but trying as we are.

I’ve suffered from MDD since I was 11. This talk keeps me going. Right now, I’m having an intense amount of anxiety, which, I’m pretty sure, is a side effect from a new antidepressant (I also suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder). I’m sharing this to give others hope and inspiration. I’m 34 years old and God has helped me through thick and thin. Through helpful psych meds and helpful professionals. Through unfathomable pits of depression, and through the death of a loved one. God even helps me when a medication does more harm than good, like my situation today. If He has taken such good care of me, sent me miracles big and small, then I know He will do the same for you, dear reader ❤ don’t give up! You are loved!

Heck yeah we are more than our limitations! My boyfriend has an autoimmune disease, and gaming is his jam! He's so creative and innovative... he could get a really good job.. He just needs to believe in himself.

Your illness is not your fault….period, so do not feel guilty of anything. God is not punishing you. He is allowing you to go through a refiners fire that will make you more like our Savior, his beloved Son, and also, so you can help others in the same boat. I know all of this for a fact. Do not let anyone undo what he helps you to become…do not allow it.
