Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. Slowly, they begin to trust one another a little more - and start to investigate the truth about Ling Bu Yi’s early childhood, family, and real identity…

It’s funny how her mom keeps saying she has no etiquette but she hasn’t taught her anything either since they came back from the war 🤷🏽♀️

It's easier for her to blame Niao Niao for her lack of etiquette if she doesn't teach her because she spent so many years fighting in a war. If she really cared about her daughter's future she would've started teaching her about social etiquette...instead of focusing on changing her entire personality because she hated that she was raised by the second sister in law.

@@twinflames8600 this is what drives me crazy the most. Niao Niao seeks praise and her mother knows it...so she withholds her praise to try and force Niao Niao to change into a proper young lady....that's why she told her third sister that she praises people who deserve it. This is the method that she's choosing to use but it backfired. Niao Niao has gotten to the point where she is starting to careless about her mother's praise. If madam Cheng keeps it up she's going to lose her daughter's love for good.

@@twinflames8600 I agree...the third aunt will be a 100x better for Niao Niao than madam Cheng. She understands that a child needs love and patience to grow. Niao Niao responds to sincerity...if you're nice to her she'll be nice to you. If you care about her...then she will care about you. Madam Cheng doesn't understand this about her daughter...but her third aunt does...and Niao Niao doted on her when they were in Hua. She even cried when they had to part ways...something she's never done with her parents. Yes, love is a stretch...lol

I love our matchmaker emperor. His interests in CSS has been growing since the status report came in about her contributions in Hua County and the edict LBY asked him to give. This meeting is clearly designed to get to know her better. They had her come up closer to the Emperor and Empress so they could see her and the line of questions directed only towards her. She is impressing them with her honesty, sincerity, and deductive reasoning skills even though her interpretation skills were lacking. It was sad to see the parents really weren't seeing this. 😔 They kept seeing the negatives only. The Emperor and Empress were very pleased and thus invited them to stay for the family meal.

And you can tell that the emperor appreciates sincerity over the strict performance of etiquette. He's the type of person that likes to spend his time sitting on the floor with his generals and share around a pot of meat sauce and white pancakes. He likes to keep things real. CSS is very real.

She's precious...lol I love Niao Niao. She's winning over the Emperor/Empress with her personality...the same personality that her mother's been trying to change. The Empress is going to take her under her wing...and be the mother figure she needs in order to grow into a capable woman walking beside the General. Her mother is going to lose her daughter's affection if she doesn't change her ways. She needs to stop belittling her especially in front of everyone.

@@twinflames8600 Yes, her fake "fairness" game is heartless. Niao Niao called her out on using favoritism as a disguise and calling it fair. Niao Niao continues to get the short end of the stick. Madam Cheng hates it when other people praises Niao Niao over Yang Yang. When the third sister gifted Niao Niao a brocade coat...the mother told her that she was playing favorites. Everyone can see that she dotes on Yang Yang and belittles Niao Niao...so they try to compensate by giving Niao Niao the love and attention that she needs...Madam Cheng gets upset when that happens... and tries hard to take the limelight off of Niao Niao and give it to Yang Yang. It's pathetic.. the more she does this the further she pushes Niao Niao away.

@@twinflames8600 I agree. Honestly I hope Niao Niao doesn't forgive her mother...and moves on. Her mother has done a lot of damage to her in such a short amount of time. Niao Niao already struggled with her self-esteem growing up with her selfish, entitled and overbearing grandmother and second aunt...her mother just piled on to their hateful treatment of her. She can't accept her own daughter...because she was raised by the second aunt....that's the reason why she totally embraced Yang Yang. She was raised by her aunt...and in her eyes that's more acceptable. Niao Niao is better off without her at this point.

Woman imprint on their children what you give them will be returned it is called a balancing act. Children need to be loved fed and clothed the love from a mother is an unbreakable bond unless one has harmed the other. When you fail to be there for your child from the beginning then you reap what you have sewn. The point is she doesn't know who her family is has never been taught how to love how to behave. What she was taught was cruelty abuse starvation she nearly died and the only two people who cared was her housemaid and the young man trying to stop that witch in the beginning of this tale. She has three brothers but we only ever see two of them even they are strangers and one of them is her twin so he also must of suffered twins have a unique bond. I blame both parents her father is weak he bowed down to his wife. That is his daughter not some waif and stray.

In the end i am just glad the drama was acted out properly according to that timeline. Bcoz even 20 was considered old for marriage. You see here even LBY and YSJ mentioned how they are over 21 but still not married. So its weird for men too much less women.
