I'm 32yo and my 17yo stepson is putting me on game with the new rappers. In order for me to tap into my son's world outside of the norm, I have to understand what he likes, which will then tell me where he's coming from. I understand you and you'll understand where I'm coming as the father. It makes for great unexpected conversations and bonding moments. If you the parent put forth the effort to try an listen and it be legit sincere, he'll open up with no time. I like Lil Baby and I like NBA Youngboy.

It’s crazy. (Trinidad James, Lil Yahty, 21 savage, lil baby, cardi B. etc.) The people that don’t consider themselves artists are the ones that make it. The ones that are serious about it can’t get anyone to even listen to their song. Definitely interesting

Amazing Jay he is definitely irrelevant, but he DID get a little fame. He just really can’t rap lol

Tirant I feel that. That’s definitely a good point. What’s your opinion on artists that make really good music and seem to have the complete package, but for some reason never catch on?? I’ve always wondered how it’s possible, like I can find a couple of unknown musicians that have music that they put out and sound close to someone like Joyner Lucus but they only have maybe 2-500 plays, have never caught a lot of attention.

it also depends on their pr and marketability in general. E.g. even if you don't like cardi b, her 'star power' is pretty evident cause she's charismatic and funny. For other people, it might just depend on if they have the right team behind them. E.g. Yatchy isn't charismatic imo but coach K takes pretty good care of him behind the scenes and i guess a migos association doesn't hurt either. And i guess a part of it is just dumb luck as well
