Technically an 808 is just a sine wave that's got no attack, super long hold, very little decay, and a lot of release. It looks like a square if you do it in serum. but originally an 808 comes from the roland 808 which is a drum machine, and the way they came up with the sound is by pitching down the drum sound until it sounded like that. So like a simple kick becomes a loud booming noise if you pitch down enough.

As an appreciator of all music from classical to Lil Nas X, it really warmed my heart to hear Kyle of all people tell him that he likes this song and talk about how beautifully put together this song is composed from the beats, to the treble, to the variation of instruments and technology used, to the background notes, to the historical influence, to Lil Nas X's voice.
