Wow I never gave this song credit for its emotional depth. I always thought it was just another shallow pseudo-emotional r&b song but listening back now I can see Wayne’s recognition of a woman’s pain and numbness and his sincere attempts to help her come back from it

I was best friends with this girl once. Im talking, I was her boyfriend while she had a boyfriend. I broke my own rule, which is never talk to a girl in a relationship. I showed her this song and said “just take a listen, this song reminds me of you.” She listened to it everyday after that cuz she knew it described her. She told me she’d never hurt me.
