The issue is two fold.. this is a social media error (and I do mean error, not era for slow people like @icebergnitro 😂) fans have an expectation and feel like they deserve a seat at the table of an artist and artist feel a need to cater to that mindset. In the early 2000’s and prior, a fan would only dream of EVER speaking to their fav artist let alone feeling like their opinions should be taken into account. Music is a service! And when I make music and you purchase it, that transaction is complete! Artist don’t owe you anything beyond that and at some point, both the listener and the artist forgot that. This is what birthed “cancel culture” and is further birthing the destruction of free thought. It’s fine to engage with your fans BUT you have to draw a line of expectation and separate yourself. You do not NEED this shit to be successful. Kendrick not only doesn’t give a fuck about what social media has to say, he is completely tuned out to it.
