I used this technique when talking about a nature reserve, that before was the site of a foundry and railway. By having the sounds of the foundry and railway over the top when talking about the history it elevated the story so much. I was so proud of that :-D **As always an informative useful video Lila, keep up the great work** :-D

Foley is the most underrated part of multimedia! People don't realize how important sound effects are. Everyone talks about cinematic lighting and camera specs, but nobody talks about adding ambient sounds in post. I, myself, am a cinematography guy, but foley has always intrigued me. I love seeing how sounds are made! My mind is blown every time I learn how Ben Burtt created a sound. The sound effects demo at Universal Studios is always so fun to watch, too!

Very entertaining Lila, Room noise if the one that people usually forget about. When outside at the beach or in a city etc. It somehow comes to memory to record. But in a quiet room the room noise can be used for filtering and other silence in the video where it suddenly cutting out is noticeable without the room noise. nice job.
@lilafromyoutube
@lilafromyoutube 2 жыл бұрын
I agree! Even when people don’t remember to record city sounds, those are more “obvious” sounds to add in later whereas room tones are usually left out. So, great point!

In the essential sound panel, label your dialogue (for example) as dialogue and music as music. And when you still have your music selected there will be a “ducking” option. Essentially what this does (after generating keyframes) is it will lower the music when you’re talking and increase the volume when you’re not. If you wanna know what all the sliders do, just hover over them and it will tell you! 😁

Great video as always! Quick personal addition to what you said about hard (sound)cuts at 06:10 - Obviously I agree with you here but turning that around, a hard cut can help in certain situations as well to create (for instance) an element of unease, especially when there's a distinct contrast/difference in sounds. Take the sequence in the first act of Hot Fuzz as an example where Simon Pegg's character is traveling to the countyside. The rapid cuts in connection with the unusual change of sounds (and volume) helped bring across the feeling of him beeing alone and basically traveling into nowhere. I loved that montage. Or the veeeery hard cuts of picture and sound from warfare to beautiful quitness in Red Thin Line. Long story short: I guess as always there are exceptions to the rule based on what you're trying to achieve. Keep up your great work. Enjoying your videos immensly.

Hi Lila, love your videos. They are by far the most in-depth and easy-to-follow tutorials I've found on YT. Question: are you still using the PC build that is in your Kit co link? Or have you switched to a Macbook? I think some of your thumbnails show a Macbook. But the reason I'm asking is that I am in need of an upgrade and I'm debating buying the new M1 Macbooks or building my own desktop.
@lilafromyoutube
@lilafromyoutube 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I still use the pc build! I don’t use a MacBook, that’s my 2014 MacBook Air in my thumbnails that I use for aesthetics 😂 I would recommend a pc build because you can get a way more powerful pc than a laptop or MacBook, but if you move around a lot - a laptop would be a great option.
