Day 4 started literally afternoon, after a much needed, well earned lye in during the morning and a full English to refresh ourselves!
We started off at Fairwarp, a glorious 15cwt Gillett 8. They sound fabulous and bold both inside and outside when rolling along nicely; those lovely solid hums were shown off during the lower! However, they take a bit of working, with some oddstruckness around the circle. Ringing featured is spliced major both surprise and plain, courtesy of Simon and David.
Next up after a quick mini-bus ride over the Sussex hills was Withyham; again another gorgeous and quite warmingly toned Taylor 8. They go nicely and are very clear in the ringing room, though some oddstruckness makes them very nit picky to strike. Grandsire Triples inside, a well rung touch of Stedman and some Yorkshire Surprise is shown. A sound recording should feature next video.
Last but not least it was a grab at ...Spoons... followed by a ring at East Grinstead. The front bells are promising until the back quarter sounds and then the ring becomes very stoney and tinny with no real hum as you may expect from a 12. Apart from that they go alright as an augmented 12 and are perfectly ringable. The ringing shown between bands being marshalled around is a couple of extracts from Lilliputters first blows as a unit of Bristol Max and half a course of Yorkshire Max. Considering the first blows of Maximus it was very well executed and hats off to everyone for achieving the great milestones.
On the way back to the hut, energy levels were still running high so a song and dance commenced, with the bass turned up high, courtesy of a loud speaker or two!
