Nothing against Frozen, but this is definitely the OG disney "sister" movie. David is AMAZING too, so supportive through the entire thing and understanding of Nani's struggle. I would have loved to have seen a bit more of her side of things now that I'm older - when you are young you are so focused on Lilo and Stitch's interactions, but looking back as an adult, you notice so much watching how she has to become head of the household (and probably had to give up a good number of dreams in the process)

On perspective... if you look at the art style... character designs are ticker at the bottom (legs, etc.) and thinner at the top. The forced perspective is Lilo's view of the world.

Lilo and Stitch is one of those films I always come back to. The more you dig into it, the more it rewards you. For instance, the name "Lilo" means generous one, but it can also translate to "lost". So even the title alludes to the idea of found family. Just beautiful little gems of meaning sprinkled throughout.

This is 100% my favorite Disney movie and I’m so happy to see you two enjoying it. Some really cool details that are snuck into the movie are 1) Lilo mentions that her parents died in a car crash that happened because it was raining and the roads were slippery. That’s why she feeds Pudge the fish PBJ sandwiches, because he controls the weather and she probably doesn’t want any other kid loosing their parents. 2) When Lilo goes to Nani’s room to show that Stitch is a sound speaker, you will notice awards and medals on the dresser and bed showing that Nani was a very successful surfer before she (most likely) had to quit to take care of Lilo full time.

So a few things to add to the conversation, one of the details I absolutely love about the movie is when Lilo and Nani goes to buy Stitch, Nani entertains Lilo's interest in paying, despite the fact that it doesn't actually make a difference, since it was her paying either way. Another choice I really appreciate about the movie is that they could easily make Bubbles into an asshole for being the antagonist to Lilo and Nani, but his reasoning isn't flawed and he seemed like he truly wanted them to improve (similar to what you two commented on during the discussion part). The overall message is also kinda neat with the whole idea about found family.
@thosesiblingss
@thosesiblingss 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, we saw those details in the reaction and it made the movie way deeper and less shallow, its EZ to make bubbles a unidimensional character, and they didn't, and its also EZ to miss opportunities for the sister bond to be made more concrete and meaningful

One of my favourite childhood movies. It's so great when writers put depth into characters, even when the film's main demographic is children who may not understand it fully. The use of the Elvis music creates such a nice atmosphere as well... very, very well thought out.

Chris Sanders one of the ones who wrote and directed this (and even did Stitch's voice) did the character and object design emphasizing a kind of melted candle shape and extra rounded shapes. You can also see his style in How to Train Your Dragon as the head of Toothless looks similar to Stitch.

I think this movie has the more realistic siblings' relationship. It shows very well how hard it is for Nani and what she had to sacrifice for Lilo (you can see medals and trophees in her room) but also she does her best. I'm the eldest sister and I don't know if I could do the same. If you didn't know, Nani is 19 years old and Lilo is 6. There's Disney easter egg in the movie : the poster next to Nani's bed is a poster of Mulan

Someone probably already said this but two details I absolutely love are: 1. When looking at Nani’s room, you can see the many surfing trophies she has, meaning Nani probably gave up that to raise Nani, and she is only 19. Also at the beginning, Lilo said that she feed Pudge the fish because Pudge controls the weather, later she revealed that her parents died because of a car accident because it was raining, meaning Lilo believes that if she feeds Pudge, weather won’t be bad and what happened to her family, won’t happen to anyone else

Encanto is beautiful in every aspect, characters included, but i have this problem with Disney's 3D animations, they all have the exact same art style for characters, and while i think that most of Disney's oldest movies have aged very poorly to this days (in every way) The Middle line, movies like this, have such an unique and beautiful art style with Lilo, Jumba and the ice cream guy being cute while being chubby, but also we have Nani, David being attractive and Bubbles having the same swag as Will Smith in Men in Black (shout out to Will portraying his role as Ali in the Oscars yesterday) As for the story, another take in a disfunctional family trying to get ahead on life: love, misunderstandings and real life problems + a talking space dog, (yeah we had an adventure in hawaii way before than Moana) The weakest part on the movie would be Jumba right away changing sides to Stitch's, thought he wasn't part of the alien goverment, he just worked for them so they leave him alone PS: Lilo's has hobby of taking photos of fat people as we seen her collection in her wall, a sutile neat personality trait that is not directly pointed

@@a.g.demada5263 Hawaii is one of the 3 main islands of the Polynesian triangle alongsides Easter Island and New Zealand; Moana took place in this region of Polynesia, there's nothing pointing out the french Polynesia region, and the voice cast are from the Triangle, being Moana's voice hawaiian herself, plus the culture is based on the northen region of the triangle

One of my favourite Disney films. The watercolour backgrounds are gorgeous and Lilo was definitely a comfort character. Lilo is EXTREMELY autistic coded and thats why she's bullied by the other students. She has special interests (photography, elvis etc.) and has meltdowns when being overstimulated (the scene where she screams and lays face down on the floor). She doesnt fully understand that lying to Cobra would get her taken away. The reason Lilo is worried about her offerings to Pudge is because she believes the fish is a deity that controls the weather and that offerings will stop Nani from being taken away like her parents. This is honestly one of my favourite Disney films, but I wish they had kept in the original scene that showed how tourism effects Hawaii

So the reason lilo gets so defensive about pudge the fish makes sense when she tells stitch how her parents died. "Pudge controls the weather" and "it was raining and they went for a drive" Its not said in the movie but I think it's been confirmed lilo forgot to feed pudge on the day her parents died and now believes he controlled the weather which caused the accident.
