You saying that you struggle with being creative is so refreshing to hear bc every artist I see is super creative and can create things from their imagination and because I couldn’t do that, I felt bad and slowly gave up with art

I mainly do writing (some drawing, I struggle with sketchbooks), but from my personal experience, creativity is a muscle. Two to four years after I formally began calling myself a writer, I thought I was super uncreative. Everything I made felt flat and cliché. Even now, I’ll have my moments, but the more you try/consume content and get inspired/borrow and extrapolate/just do the dumb idea, the better you get at making really odd connections. Nothing new ever really exists (or if it does, it mirrors the past), embrace imperfections, love the messy, and know that it’s possible to revise, connect, and add to a ‘bad, cringey idea’ that you put on the back burner, but it’s impossible to fix an idea that you never really let exist in the first place. :)

@@andreabutitsruth Yes exactly! Just about 6 months ago, I had no creativity and I would just draw references and more references, but then I started trying to build my creativity with the help of Pinterest, Instagram, and KZfaq in the context of art. Now I am able to create things, I still take a lot of inspiration, but even when I do the art I make feels like mine. So, yes, creativity is a muscle. I also write like you, and yeah I've only recently been flooded with great story ideas because I began reading more outside of the romance genre and delved more into fantasy and other really deep writings. For everything, all you need is a little push. :)

I've noticed you talk down about yourself often in these videos, and it saddens me. You're a wonderful artist, and everyone makes mistakes. Art is challenging, and doesn't always come out the way you wish it would. Please, be kinder to yourself, it really does add up over time and change the way you view not only yourself, but your mistakes. Take care of yourself, because you matter and you're worthy of kind thoughts.

I so feel what you said about feeling uncreative and too on the nose... Same. I think creativity is as much a muscle as our drawing muscles and we have to practice with it. Creativity is for problem solving, it's something every person has, but yes it is harder for some than others! I think your radishes are gorgeous 🥰

Agreed and also she mentioned being busy and feeling rushed and I think that can totally hinder creativity. It's something I struggle with myself, trying to juggle so many things I have a photography insta, drawing/painting insta and also run an unrelated Etsy shop single handledly 😩 the struggle is real trying to create content and make money and stay creative argh!

Honestly I feel your grips about not being creative enough or feel that the way you depict your stories are to bold or not subtle enough. Although that can be a strength, if you have an idea that you want to share, sometimes having the message right in front of the audience with no room for denial of the message can be really powerful, especially in an age where art often isn’t taken at face value. I really love your channel and your art style is really pleasing to look at, the artist you referenced for the first day seemed really interesting, would you happen to have any recommendations for exploring this artists work as a reference tool? :)

I really loved the editing on this video as a whole, I didn't think there was too much empty space at all! This is exactly the kind of video I love to put on while working/drawing/etc. This challenge especially is really inspiring, I think all of the spreads came out lovely and I can tell you had fun with the process. My faves are the egg, mushroom and boat prompts! I wish I had a sketchbook with only a few pages to try something like this :D

I relate to the thing you said about feeling like you lack creativity and always being on the nose when you make something so much. I struggle with it and I feel so upset when I can see like everyone just come up with stuff out of there minds?!?! And make it fun and interesting and colourful I can really only copy references and I really don't know how to make my art more me and interesting. It sucks some times but hey even being able to do art at all is a pretty great talent so there's that, plus your art literally gives me a reason to want to improve

I actually think it’s very talented of you to be able to follow a reference picture because that’s something I can’t really do it all. I’m always changing things or adding things and even just a copy one out right it always ends up with something else in it. It takes a lot of skill to be able to do a reference picture.

The next time you want to do something like this and really want to use markers. You could consider putting a plastic sheet between pages to protect the remaining sketchbook and then use a layer of gouache to cover up the bleed through 😁 you also could draw on marker paper and then tape/glue it in ✂️ Scrapbooking blogs and videos have great layouts that can also be used for sketchbooks 😁 using the same medium and/or color pallet also makes them appear to belong as one spread. If all else failed, use a highlighter or other coloring tool to draw boxes around your favorite elements and draw the same boxes on both pages. BAM instant “spread”

Something I’ve been working on is sticking with a piece until the end, even if I don’t feel like finishing it. Like with the mushroom spread, you could have salvaged them but gave up and I think that’s such a real thing that we as artists don’t talk about. Sometimes art is really hard

Hey, on finding it hard to be creative, I think maybe you need to hear this? You ARE creative and you make creative choices multiple times throughout this sketchbook, but almost every single time, you punish yourself for it. Like, with the mushroom prompt, you represented the subject matter in a fun, creative, unique way, then you only say negative things about how it turned out. Yeah, okay, maybe it wasn't what you hoped it would look like, but if you keep being harsh on yourself every time you take a creative risk, you're only going to make it harder to improve. Your creativity is right there, it's bright and beautiful and it's YOURS, but you need to nurture it or it will never grow.

It just makes me wonder how different creatives' brain work! I love rthis video though, each of the segments is fantastic and I think you're wonderful at creating sketchbook spreads! I think this challenge is a cool idea because it got you out of your regular routine and comfort level. Sometimes you need that specific body of work that tests those areas that you need to work on. Changing up the colors, prompts, limiting the amount of detail used and even using mediums your not used to will get you to try new things. Not everything will work out but you will have created pieces that challenge your abilities.

Your sketchbook is beautiful the person who made it is awesome. I think you are to critic of yourself! Your work in markers tho was amazing! I havent seen anyone use markers in the way you do. Its like a painting! It blew my mind especially the norman rockwell inspired pieces on day one. Have you considered in your sketchbook doing markers having a blotter page underneath then on the back side use paint to cover it? You could also gesso the back side then use pens or colored pencils there.

I understand avoiding markers because of bleed through...it's sad, but unless you are prepared for it they can cause trouble for any picture on the following page/pages. That being said, i DO love the ideas that the bleed splotches can create for me...i like incorperating the quasi shapes or the colors that have blead through onto the next page or two. Perhaps that could be a fun way to still use your markers, and maybe even be a way to fill pages you might have avoided because of the bleed? Just a thought and examples of what i do with them as it is sad not to be able to use your favorite medium because of something like bleed through.

I don’t understand why people use their ecoline watercolour brush pens like Textas because they’re meant to be used with water and a brush. Every page you’ve done is beautiful you’re being way too hard on yourself.
