I see a lot of pain in Lily's eyes as she is talking about her character, idk if it's just me. But it just breaks my heart. Talking openly about your 'dark' past requires a lot of courage. And I salute her for doing so.

I had a ED and I don't see how it can be safe for someone with a former ED to lose a lot of weight

She probably felt strong enough to play the role, plus yeah, she had all those professionals and heaps ot support there if she needed it

Cheyenne Brennan as someone in recovery for anorexia, I’d imagine she actually secretly loved the ability to be given *permission* to act like an anorexic and lose enough weight to get scratch that ED itch. You have the itch for life, since there is literally no ‘cure’ for EDs. It’s a mental disorder. You ‘recover’ because you adopt new healthier habits which you force yourself to do daily until things get easier. People don’t talk about it enough, but an ED is for life... as sad as that sounds. You can ‘recover’ by getting physically healthier and improve your mindset. That’s all. It is never cured for good, fully.

@@LolaBathory THIS. To me there is no “fully recovered”. I believe you can FEEL recovered. For a while. But the urge will always be there no matter what, but you know that the trouble isn’t worth it so you force yourself to have healthy habits. Your ED can be in remission forever but never cured.

I have had an eating disorder and there is NO WAY I could diet ever again. I have no idea how someone could do that, its too dangerous.

It’s extremely irresponsible to allow lily (who formerly struggled with an eating disorder) to restrict calories for weight loss for the role.

I dont think i know anyone who didnt go through an eating disorder but we still dont talk about it and i am actually really thankful for this film.

I've been anorexic and I'm really looking forward to seeing this film! The only times I've seen anorexic people being portrayed, they were always incredibly shallow, psychologically fragile and self-absorbed. But that wasn't my experience. In fact, a lot of anorexic people actually feel invincable. The feel like they can become anyone the want to be only through willpower and in part they are right. (I didn't just lose weight back then, I also only had As in school). There is so much being overseen about this disease and people are so paternalistic towards anorexics. They feel above them. But the worst part is: they think the disease is merely and only the thinness, when in fact it's much more what's in your head. And that's what used to drive me crazy: that people can look at someone who is trying to starve himself - and therefore to murder himself in the slowest, cruelest and most disturbing way, but reduces there problems to issues with looks. There is ALWAYS something deeply horrific going on in an anorexic person, that goes way beyond looks. The looks are just the rebellion...

Yes! Yes! Yes! I also struggled with anorexia and at one point bulimia and you are completely right , eating disorders are not just about being skinny and food it is so much deeper than only that and people don't understand that .

yeah I hate how the media portrays anorexics, as if we think everyones fat and are self absorbed which is TOTALLY not true. I went to a treatment for adolescents awhile ago and literally every single person who came through was so so so nice, and not a single drop of toxicity. people just assume people with eating disorders are self- obsessed and rude when in reality were quite the opposite; self loathing and depressed lol

Is it not kind of dangerous to allow Lilly to alter her weight for this role when she has had an eating disorder in the past for real? Like I get, getting into roles, gaining/loosing weight etc for roles like Christian Bale did for the machinest etc if done correctly yeah no issue with that, but considering she has had a past herself this to me seems quite dangerous. It could trigger something.

Anastacia Louise she recovered a while ago and it was her choice to lose all that weight. well your concern is valid, im positive she was safe while going about it. she saw a nutritionist regularly.

Yeah, but from what I've learned, there's always a chance of a relapse. It seems like one never recovers 100% without a chance of developing the disorder again.

Yes! I am 35. I was hospitalised at 14 for Anorexia and was mostly better by 19. I can never diet I know I would fall right back into it even 20 years later. I don't think anyone ever fully recovers.

Yeah I have suffered with bulimia in my past and I know its something that always stays with you. Anyone remember Cory Moneteith from Glee? He had a past of being a drug user which he had overcome but then he took a movie role where he had to play a drug addict and he ended up going back to drugs again in his real life, it must of triggered something. And then he died :( I just worry for Lily, she did a great job in the role, but I would have just stuck to cgi and not expected her to follow any dieting to loose the weight even with all the help around her, no one can see what goes on in a persons mind. x

Anastacia Louise I think every human is different and therefore has different ways of dealing with problems. I had bulimia for 3 years, that was 5 years ago. There were moments when I was really tempted to go back to my old lifestyle, but everytime I said "no" to myself I got stronger. At this point of my life I don't think I will ever go back to where I was. It doesn't matter how much triggering things I see, hear or read, I now know that to me living is more important than dyeing. If the actress had that mentality during the making of the movie PLUS so much nutritional and emotional support, I do not think it was dangerous for her. Then again, everyone is different, to someone else it might would've been triggering. But for her I think it was okay :) She's an awesome actress

I am just really afraid of gaining weight. There are things in the house that I want to eat, but choose not to because of the calories, so I choose to not eat.

Ricardo Alba it took a while to recover but with the help of counselling and seeing a dietitian I was able get back to my normal body weight. I hope this helps.

Ricardo Alba same I started off without eating much of anything for a week because this voice kept telling me how bad my reflection was in the mirror and if I didn’t eat then I’d start to look pretty... then I came to reality that you’ll just gain the weight back when u eat right again and I denied going back to regular eating cause I’m scared of gaining weight and also didn’t want my metabolism to get fucked up, so I changed it up. I’m going from 400 cals a day to 1,000-1,200 cals with very healthy foods, lots of exercising, and lots of water. I’m scared of gaining weight and not losing weight.

Lilys my favorite actress due to this film. Anything I see she's in I want to see. Not that I'm able to because my family can't even know I've seen the film, but...

Isnt it very dangerous for Lilly? I mean she had eating disorders . It never leaves you alone even if you are 100% recovered! It can cause a breakdown for her, hopefully not. But it is like attracting and calling the demons again!!! The movie is great, but I'm concerned about Lilly... I dont want her to go back to anorexia or bulimia or whatever eating desorder she had...

What are they talking about when they say there is "something" where its obvios but hopefully not that obvious that there is hair/makeup/special effects that helped creating a realistic anorexic character? Ive seen the movie the day it came out but I would like to not what exactly they're referring to?! that scene where she gets undressed in front of her stepmom to be weight?

I would say the scene where Ellen's step monther wants to check her weight and you see her non existent belly. That was 99.9% fake in my opinion.

I feel like Hollywood always has food on the table or massive amounts of prepared food on film that nobody ever touches or eats?!!! That’s a trigger on purpose! Like everyone is so busy living life that they don’t eat? We lay the age of Pisces to rest 🎉
