I think lily knew that dinky was fake, she recognized it as an attraction from before the war and as she usually does treats the courier like a kid that’s why she was asking them such a childlike question

. . . Lilly's story hits me right in my emotions mainly because it reminds me of my grandmother before she had passed away. Having Lilly around me in New Vegas just makes me feel like my grandmother is still here watching over me. Lilly is sometimes the only companion i take because even if it's not my grandma's voice the way she acts still reminds me of her. The reason being was because my grandmothers mind was rock solid till she was given a different prescription of pills by the VA that ended up taking her memories to make her a bit healthier and she only ever had clouded memories of who me and my family were and the medicine only ever made her memories fade but as they faded her physical health was improving. Eventually the only choice my grandmother made was the same. Half doses to try and keep some semblance of who she was and who we as her family were. . . Those pills took away her mind and soon the damage was to far along to repair and she eventually forgot about all of us before passing away in the hospital. Having Lilly with me is my way trying to keep my grandma with me. Even though i know she's not really there. Oxhorn, Thank you for making this video. . . it really means a lot to me. More then you will ever know.

There's just something inherently threatening about a Super Mutant using the phrase, "Give me some sugar." Lovely person, though.

Maybe an ending where Lily takes her medication fully, but where the Courrier continues hanging out with her and reminds her of her past memories would've been nicer.

I believe vault 17 was one of the Control Vaults. One of the few vaults where they did no experiments. It would explain why a 75 year old Woman was able to become a Super Mutant. Also, maybe you should make a Lily Shirt that says Hello Dearie on the front.

This character was one of the most interesting characters in FO:NV if you ask me! I don't know why, but she is one of the first things I think of when I think of that game! Such a tragic situation. Choosing the half dose option felt like the greatest kindness to her.

I believe both extremes are equal to killing Lily, stopping medication kills Lily and gives birth to Leo, full medication kills Lily and makes her a docile pet - half doses keeps her alive as a person, her personality and grandma-like attitude remains as well as her memories which shaped her as a person and doesn't allow Leo to take control over her... If she became a psychotic beast she'd either get killed or kill some innocents which could traumatize her of her sanity ever returned as even Master's assassination targets could be considered military targets, civilians would likely impact her much more, while I'm afraid full medication could make her forget everything permamently - half doses are both her own decision and give me hope that someday somebody will develop a way to return her memories while still supressing Leo, the one benefit of her being a super mutant is extended life, likely without aging, allowing her to wait for a cure way longer than a human could.

Lily should keep taking them in half doses because that is her only link to her humanity the only part of her left before the master changed her

If they ever remake ‘Fallout 1’, they should include Vault 17 where we meet a human Lily and her family. But when we return to Vault 17 a second time, we find out that The Master’s army raided the Vault and the residents are either dead or missing. And then, at a later time, we see Lily as a Nightkin and can remember her if she mistakes the player for one of her grandkids.

Even though there is not a lot of story to her, she is oddly enough one of the best companions in the game. Best Grandma for sure, too pure.

It's a tragedy no matter how you slice it...I chose the middle one, so she could remember her grandkids.

Man..it feels like there are so many heartbreaking stories in this game in particular. That isn't to say there isn't in 3 or 4 but it feels like new Vegas makes up for what it lacks in map size with just, characters and their stories.

Yeah, Lily's endings are tragic. None of them amount to any semblance of a good conclusion. But such is life in this game and we have to accept it. I personally went with asking her to keep taking it at half-doses.

Lily is my favorite companion in all of the fallout games she’s a kind sweet grandmother and who doesn’t love their grandma it does sadden me that the three options we get all kind of suck I would’ve loved to of found a way for her to remember her grandchildren but also keep her sanity at bay but we didn’t get that the best we can do is continue to love Lily because she’s grandma

I don't think most people know how strong Lily is. Her Chopper is not only a good melee weapon, but the Assault Rifle that she has allows her to deal decent damage against most enemies. Usually characters only specialize in either Melee or Range, and the other usually is fault in terms of efficiency. Lily has two good weapons off the bat for both ranges. Lily allows a decent 10% extra critical damage when sneaking, so this makes her better than Boone, who just makes people glow red. Any Sniper Character should have Lily. I always do when either having the Gauss Rifle or Thump Thump Characters. Lily has a great amount of health and carry weight, better than other characters. Although she can't wear any armour, her strength and ability alone makes her good. Her heightened weight makes her better for more heavy weapons. Upgrading your companions is always a must if you want to deal with enemies normally. On Normal, Lily can decently fight Deathclaws, 1 on 1, on her own, unlike most companions, and giving her her upgrade weapons makes her all the more better. The best way to upgrade Lily is to give her Oh Baby!, which is part of her quest so this is easy, and the CZ Avenger Minigun, which is guarded by Super Mutant Centaurs in the North East in a massive crater. This alone makes her the best character to hunt enemies, Cazadors and Deathclaws. Generally I prefer her to use her guns in deadly occasions, whilst using her melee in mediocre situations (like Radscorpions and any enemy lower than Caz/Death). Her high health helps a lot against Cazadors, and Deathclaws have a difficult time killing lily even in Very Hard, unlike other companions or the player which will die in, most cases, one or two swipes. Lily is the best companion. She is also adorable. The only issue is when you are crouching and sniping. If an enemy is coming towards you, Lily will say "Get behind me", and she will sometimes try to move in front of you. This isn't a Lily problem more so a Companion problem, as I noticed that with other companions such as E-DE too... though Lily is larger, so be careful if you are using something like a Grenade Rifle. She won't get in front of you if you are uncrouched, so after getting a sneak critical get out of it and you will be fine.

I like to believe Lily went out west and had her own brand of adventures, rediscovering her past, and finding somekind of stability.

If I played making choices I'd make in real life I would give her the half dose. She's made her choice so I wouldn't want to override it. It'd be different if she only sat in squalor reminiscing about them and only living in the past, but she doesn't. She holds a job and is apart of Jacobstown life. She is leading a productive life. It would be cruel to take something precious from her just to force her to "not live in the past." If she wants to live with the bittersweet memory of her grandkids it's her right and makes her "human" any way.

Lily one of my favorite FO characters. I will always remember the first time I heard her story. Thanks OX for showing additional dialog I never triggered in my games.

Shit, Lily's story always makes me cry T_T In my games I usually encourage her to take medicines in half doses, just because it was her own choice. But from time to time I've chosen the option with curing her insanity - and it was like "screw you, game, I gonna make her remember, no matter how, i have 100 in medicine so i should be able to find the way"

Leo's probably her sword. Just like that nightkin in Repconn who's friend is a Brahmin skull. The game probably doesn't recognize that her weapon's changed, so it likely just says the dialogue regardless.

Hey Ox, you may or may not see this, but the Human Lily model and her grandkids are probably there because the game needs npc's to be attached to voices, seen if they're just recordings. The same thing applies to Ron Pearlman, the narrator, who also has a character model.

I would love to see a Super Mutant Jimmy traveling with Lily in a future game, given that the half dose is the canon ending. My favorite companion!

Lily is my favorite companion, shes so sweet and very tanky.

Lily embodies dementia for me. My grandfather died of dementia a while back and lily reminds me of him a lot.

When I played New Vegas years ago I never came close to experiencing the lore to this high degree. But, just watching this video has helped not only to bring back the memories of this fun game, but helped me to re-enjoy my memories of it by expanding my understanding through your videos of the characters I encountered in the game, and heart felt philosophical points you expand upon. Thank you.

You know what Ox in this case two of those options are like the Master and Frank Horrigan's dogma of "They know best" but if we side with Lilly and encourage her to keep taking half doses to let her her remember her grandchildren we can truly say "We know best." Because when we are willing to allow someone to make their own choice with a far happier end we truly are doing what is best. We are not hurting anyone, we gain nothing and Lilly will remember those two sweet kids for the rest of her long life we that is the courier gains nothing but a satisfaction that even though she hasn't as much control she is as happy as she can be till she is with her family again. If she takes the medicine at full doses she loses a important part of herself she loses her past and who's to say that given time she won't forget you, Marcus and the reason she started taking the pills? If she stops taking them altogether she will lose more than just herself. She will lose all of her sanity, Humanity and will eventually meet a gruesome end at the hands of someone who only wants to protect themselves and those who they care about. She will ultimately be murdered and in my mind this would be all my fault as the one who told her to stop. The one who "Knew best." because I literately erased a sweet hearted grandmother who's only crime was being born in a vault who would of long ago been in a much better place had the Master not failed to see his mission was pointless before raiding her vault. I am a spiritual person at heart and even in games like Fallout or GTA I will always try my best to do what I know is right. I can not side with the Powder Gangers, Legion, Enclave, the Van Graffs, Gizmo, and so many others because even though it is a game and we are allowed to pick these paths knowing we can undo all of it with a old save file I just cannot bring myself to be a traitor or monster. Power is fleeting but trust, honor, friendship, family and love are eternal and without them the things that give us nightmares win and we become monsters. Lilly "Knows Best" as most grandmothers do and so I "know best" to let her hold on to what makes her Lilly. The memories of her family, friends and me are more precious than all the "Whiskey in Reno." to quote another character from New Vegas.

Hearing and seeing Lily for some odd reason gives a warm caring feeling even if shes large and intimidating with a distorted voice she still gives that nice grandma vibe

I love the fallout universe so much. Even if fo4 makes little sense most of the time, every other game is so satisfyingly connected. The little details are great.

i don't have any living grandparents anymore. hell, earlier today i poured my maternal grandmother's ashes into the ground after digging the hole in the first place, then filling it back in and mounding it up. lily reminds me of the love both my paternal and maternal grandmothers showed me in such abundance-- they and my maternal grandfather were my protectors throughout my life while my parents were either dealing with my intellectually disabled brother, or drowning their sorrows in vices. i miss those three so much. lily is the one companion in the game who, no matter what, makes me feel safe and secure in the wasteland. i wish i could give my supermutant grandma a big hug.

I adore Lily, shes such great character and she does make it feel like someone cares for the currier with out expecting us to do tons of things for her.

This story hits extremely close to home for me. Before she passed, my grandmother had a terrible case of dementia. Sometimes, she’d look at me and ask “Where’s Robert?” And when I’d say, “I’m Robert.” She’d pat my hand and respond, “I know you are dear, but I’m looking for little Robert.” Because in her mind there was adult me who helped her around the house and there was also child me that still needed her for scrapped knees. Sometimes she’d even ask me to go looking for “Little Robert” because she was worried about him. I’d usually tell her he was somewhere visiting a friend or at sports practice or some other innocent activity but that I knew where he was and she didn’t need to worry. It was easier that way.

Dont know if already discussed. BUt i think that she does not that much believe the dinosaurs alive, more like as she talking to Jimmy, would the kid want to go play on it...

I chose to let lily continue to keep taking half doses of her medication. I believe once she found what she was looking for she might switch to a full dose at her own choice. not even the memory snuffing medication could make her forget her grand-kids if she had gotten the right information

The point you made towards the end of the video where you justified your ultimate decision to allow her to continue her meds at 1/2 doses was for me the sum of the whole vid where we came to know more about her. She may now be a schizophrenic Nightkin, but at one time in the past, she was a human being who loved and was loved; She had memories that in a small way kept a part of her humanity alive that she cherished more than anything else. By allowing her to continue as she had been doing, she was for all intents and purposes keeping the memories of those grandchildren alive, though they have been long- forgotten by the universe itself. Every playthrough I make the same choice as you did, using the same lines of reasoning for the same exact outcome. Choosing any other path for her robs her of the last shred of humanity she desperately clings to, humanity that was stolen from her and countless other victims of the Master's selfish "Vision", humanity I'm most certain she didn't want stolen to begin with.

Reminds me of my granny RIP she died 3 years ago 93 at the time died from multiple strokes within a month love her so much I hope to be with her one day but till then I continue to share her stories and love with others!

I loved lily as a companion. She was just so ... so sweet and loveable. I myself chose the half Dosis option for lily simply because that was what made her the lily I liked so much. This character all together is just so sweet.. having a loving grandmother that treats you like one of her family embers was just so special

Maybe Leo was a friend of lily in the Army and when they died she sees tham in her mind

Knowing what I do now about the endings, I agree that half-doses are the best... ... That being said, in my first play through of the game, I had her take her full dosage, worried that taking any less than the doctor prescribed to be dangerous for Lily's mental health. On my first play through it was an unknown, a risk. I had no idea how severe the consequences may or may not have been. For that reason, I do not blame anyone who had her take her full dosage.
