Unlike many of today's female singers, Rondstadt doesn't rely on frilly vocal gymnastics. She sings the songs straight and strong, bold and beautiful. No ostentatious show to serve self but always there in her simple, cute, humble way to serve the song. An Amazing talent and singular beauty. Special.

I was blessed to have seen her play live, way back in 1977 with The EAGLES and JACKSON BROWNE for my very first concert. I still have my ticket stub, and I will NEVER forget that day. I was 16, it was outdoor, and I think we were probably 100 yards(if that) from the stage. She is the QUEEN of rock and roll, and it truly saddens me that her wonderful, gorgeous singing voice has been silenced! She will live on forever, and there will NEVER be another LINDA RONSTADT! Thank you for the beautiful music and those awesome vocal chords! We love you Linda.

Always knew she was a great singer but the way she sang in Pirates of Penzance was next level. Heard her tell an interviewer recently that she can't sing any longer due to her health problems, then she sang a little with some friends who dropped by. The interviewer said, "But you were just singing there." She responded, "No, that wasn't singing." Her jazz work with Nelson Riddle was also great. Riddle had never heard of her before but his granddaughter assured him, "Don't worry, her checks won't bounce."

I saw her in '76. She was part of the concert to benefit Jerry Brown. Jackson Brown opened with David Lindley on fiddle and lap steel. Linda came out and joined them for a song (or 2?). Then Jackson and David left and basically the Andrew Gold band came out and joined Linda. When their set was done, the Eagles came out. At some point, Glen says " Oh, on piano, that's Dan Fogelberg." For the encore, everybody came back onstage with Jerry Brown and Dan played "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler", with everybody joining in.

“Weed, whites and wine”. Trucking and touring. A new city every night On the road . The trucker The heroin addict (“Carmelita”) The Hobo (“Trio”) The Game Player (“Hasten Down the Wind”) The Played (“You’re No Good”) The Devastated (“Down So Low,” “Love Has No Pride” “Desperado” etc etc ) Her pure and powerful tone, yes, but the vulnerability and sadness she conveyed spoke of a deep empathy for the listener who might relate to the pain she expressed so beautifully in song. Like you had a friend who understood and was with you. You were held by the tenderness in her voice. And for me, that was a tremendous gift at a very lonely time. God Bless You, Ms Ronstadt. Have heard her say she was not a good performer-couldn't dance, not much patter. Thought her little "moves" were charming enough, but really, as you said, all she needed to do was sing. These videos of live performances give me a hint, but to a person, anyone who saw her live said it was the sound emanating from her that was just phenomenal and unforgettable.

I love that she just opened up and that beautiful voice flowed out. If I'm drunk or stoned, her's are the songs I wanna sing. We're both mezzos.

Ronstadt was no mezzo!! She was a coloratura soprano! Have you never heard her sing in “The Pirates of Penzance” (Gilbert and Sullivan) ?!?!? It’s an incredibly har vocal role, but she nailed it! Her voice was so rich and so full of color and power that it’ll fool you, but she knew her instrument inside and out and can make it do whatever she wanted to. Damn! I had to go change words to make it past tense, and it makes me cry.

My favorite live Linda performance. Such an incredible song from Lowell George, sung by Linda who interprets it so perfectly and poignantly with her voice. Just heart-achingly beautiful.
