Linda is Legendary....and back in the 70's she was noted by music critics and fans as the Best Female artist of those 70's......and always came up with excellent musicians that we never heard because they weren't Company label bought...they were musicians she heard play in a bar or coffeehouse and picked them up to be included in her band. Excellent!!!! Nothing fancy!!!! Just the pure energy and power of her voice.....One of my best female artist in music history.

One of the nicest, sweetest, approachable, kindest superstar performers you ever would want to meet! She is just a doll! I saw her in Cleveland when she was doing a show at the River Front pagoda. While she was waiting for her introduction to perform she was standing on a walk next to the river where several of us boaters had congregated. We exchanged conversation with her like she was an old friend! Just a lovely person inside and out! It is a real shame how life has felt her this terrible illness as a punishment for all of her kindness.

She kinda had three careers. Rock songstress. Torch singer, 2 albums backed up by the Nelson Riddle orchestra. 2 Spanish Language albums, one of which is still the number one selling Spanish album of all time. In every case she won a Grammy. You wanna hear her power and perfection personified, check out her 1989 Grammy show performance. Billy crystals introduction, and Bonnie Raitte’s reaction at the end says everything you need to know about Linda as a performer!!

Your review and informative comments were as great as the dynamic performance of Linda and her backing band. She was the finest chick singer in each of the various genres she chose to cover - from rock and roll oldies, to country classics, to Spanish language canciones to contemporary pop gems. Linda could sing them all, with her big, beautiful voice using full, rich, muscular tone. Thanks again!

Kenny Edwards was also with Linda I the Stone Poneys. Sadly, those 3 passed at rather young ages from cancer.

Agree completely with Sally below. Find and watch Linda's recent years documentary and you will have a far greater appreciation of the talent level of this lady. She could sing any genre and make each jump out as her mainstay. If she is not at the top of my list of female singers enjoyed in my lifetime, she is damn close. I recommend you find a live version of her doing Tumbling Dice likely from this same venue. Ballads or rockers, she owned both.

Waddy Wachtel is a great guitarist. He also played on Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves Of London”, and when Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones) put a band together to make his classic ‘Talk Is Cheap’ album, Wachtel was his first choice. Linda had the voice, the looks, and the charisma to attract the finest musicians and to call the shots in a time when it was changing, but it was still rare for women (she, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris come to mind…). It's been said many times she can sing anything; country, rock, mariachi, american standards, broadway, and on and on - and she sings them ALL masterfully. She is also well known for not just surrounding herself with the best musicians but helping them to succeed with their own careers - most famously when her backing band in the early seventies asked her permission to form their own band. She did and with her blessing. The band in question? The Eagles! The guitarist in this performance, Andrew Gold, went on to have some success in his own right. Remember the song "Thank You for Being a Friend"? That's his song!

Linda Ronstadt was lucky when Jackson Browne, her producer said this song is going to the top if you cover it. That song was a of Warren Zevon's "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me". My best music writer and performer of all time is Warren Zevon. Zevon and Jackson & Waddy Wacthel were all part of a group of 70s and 80s jam session friends Hall of Fame. 10 to 20 of them. They were friends and peers. Who might pop by one night? Bruce Springsteen just for one. No awe, just another day in the office. Other Warren Zevon covers that were big hits for Ronstandt Carmelita Hasten Down the Wind [which was the name of the album] Mohammed's Radio
