It’s reach a point where it is not about the abilities of Maguire, it’s the fear he brings to the team, particularly DDG. With Maguire in the team, the entire defence is in panic mode because you expect a few mistakes from him

It's actually the fear that De Gea brings into the team in an important game. That's why Ten Hag directed him to shoot as hard as he can whenever the ball is passed back to him. Because David just can't pass a simple ball.

Weird how when Maguire isn't playing we look far more solid defensively. Lindelof has akways been a far superior defender than Maguire. I thought we defended brilliantly throughout. We soaked up Brighton's pressure well without being at our best ourselves but we dug in & had flawless penalties converted brilliantly despite u not having a decent record in penalty shootouts

Without Maguire blocking De Gea's view and keeping the ball too close for De Gea to react on every shot was predictable enough for De Gea to save although not comfortably but better chance than Maguire being there

You also have to take under the consideration that Man Utd just played in the Europa League 2 days ago. And with injuries and fatigue, its understandable that Brighton took that as their advantage n dominate the game with pace.

Lol, Brighton were playing their 30 something match of the season we were playing our 50 something match of the season. And yet you can't say Brighton dominated, we even ended up having more shots on target by the end.

Brighton had more of the ball and had some periods of domination, but United had some periods of domination as well. United were comfortable with Brighton having the ball because the plan was to score on the counter. Both sides created a similar number of chances without really creating great chances. I'd say that Brighton was the slightly better side, but not a dominant one.

At least he was fair unlike the ref in the Juve vs Napoli game who cancelled Di Marias goal for a challenge on a 50-50 loose ball

Modern goalkeeping has evolved and every team wants a sweeper keeper. In that sense, yeah DDG needs to improve. But as a traditional GK I really do believe he is one of the most solid GKs out there (Ignoring his mishaps here and there)

Nah he literally had a sub-50% pass completion rate in this match, the majority of Brighton's lead in possession came from de gea being incapable of playing out from the back and constantly giving his goal kicks away right back to Brighton basically wasting our possession . Man is straight garbage

Match would’ve ended earlier if Maguire was playing…meaning Brighton would’ve been in the final. This match was a straightforward example of DDG actually feeling comfortable without his presence on the pitch! Easily. Even when he's playing okay, Maguire's presence alone seems to eat away the confidence and energy of his team-mates. Maguire does not have the charisma of a winner and it's easy to why the team seems so lethargic when he plays.
