This is an AWESOME interview (to promote Fleetwood Mac's Say You Will album) with Lindsey Buckingham (my fave) and Stevie Nicks!! This is from a (April 2003) morning show. It focuses on their relationship. This is one of my all-time favorite interviews!! I LOVE this!!
No claim or copyright infringement intended.
Enjoy!! ~Jackie (:

This quote from Stevie just killed me: "I think that Lindsey in his heart of hearts feels that, if we hadn't joined Fleetwood Mac, we'd probably still be together today. And he may very well be right." It's strange to think that something that has brought so many people so much pleasure and happiness may be the very thing that shredded their relationship. That's the stuff of tragedy, right there! Somebody ought to make a movie! :)

Stevie and Lindsey never would have stayed together! He's way too controlling for a free spirit like her. And he's jealous as hell of her talent - look how resentful he is in this interview, that her natural stage presence took the focus off him! Yet she was always so supportive of him, even taking shitty, low paid cleaning jobs to pay the rent, so he could sit around all day playing guitar. He only insisted he wouldn't join Fleetwood Mac without her, because he wanted to be with her, and keep her under his control. He obviously never thought she'd dump him, and to add insult to injury, become this huge star! Stevie said in a recent interview that she and Lindsey couldn't be friends after their split, while Mick Fleetwood remains her 'best friend' even after their broken love affair. Mick returned the compliment, saying Stevie and he are 'soul mates'. Now THAT'S love!

The music biz is very toxic, by nature, and encourages bad coping skills and behaviors. Not a lot of relationships can withstand that. As someone who has been there, it's beyond tragic.

Lindsay was very controlling and jealous. He wasn’t a good romantic partner. He had an ego. Too much of an ego perhaps. She was meant to shine always and he was trying to dim her.

@@glamdolly30 i don't think so. Everyone has relationship's struggles. I think you're right on her "free spirit", but free spirits don't fit for solid relationships. She has it problem. The showbiz draw her, and she as free as is felt colder and colder... There are so many cases like this in life... Mainly nowadays. Nobody wants to afford "losing liberty" in order a something "bigger". Anyways... That's what I think that happened .

Stevie and Lindsey are always going to be relevant because of the musical love filled lives they lead, it’s so rare to meet and fall in love and to do that with a person with the same passions as you is rare, and it tore apart. I think it’s a blessing they bestowed the music on us that Fleetwood Mac has, kinda makes me sad that Lindsey doesn’t note his own contributions to the band as significant or recognized, millions of fans love him and Stevie. I hope they feel our love for them, and I hope they reconcile peacefully before they leave this planet. I’m so glad fm was still so connected with Christine’s passing, and I hope they all get back together, at least in memoriam.

I honestly love the dynamics between Lindsey and Stevie. I don't know why, but they are just a very, very fascinating pair and I can't quite get bored of them. Probably a huge reason why the band was such a huge success as well, aside from the music and OF COURSE Christine. :)

It's funny, as talented as Lindsey is, I've always felt there's an undercurrent of self-doubt there, and that kind of prevented him from becoming a 'star.' Stevie and he were both vital to Fleetwood Mac, and I think she believed that he was a major talent more than he did. Fascinating rock and roll couple, to be sure....

And THATS why I love Lindsay. As a musician I have my style and tricks but in no way do I consider myself to be a virtuoso guitarist or songwriter. I relate to that aspect of lindsay's personality.

Joseph Caranante They are both talented but she wrote so much more than Lindsay. Check out Fleetwood Mac demos of The Chain, Dreams & Gold Dust Woman. Those are Stevie's songs originally & she wrote so many hits even while the band belittled her (angel outtakes & tusk recording in the studio). She has all the fame & fortune in the world but she doesn't have Lindsay. He loves her truly but can't get past his anger & jealousy toward her for being more famous, something she's never let her to her head. Lindsay is incredibly talented & an amazing guitarist & I wish he would be secure enough to not be in competition with Stevie in songwriting & singing. Jealousy holds no place in love but it's in rock and roll unfortunately. I know. 🎶💗🎶.

@@musiclovetara you are absolutely wrong! Lindsay wrote more hits than stevie and has way more talent. Did you not watch the video? Not only that they only wanted Lindsay in the beginning. Interesting clips. Stevie is a very tough character, despite the ethereal image. I think she enjoys her status now and the limelight. Personally, I prefer Lindsey, he's written a lot of my favourite FM songs and his solo music. I would say he's quite fragile though as a person. extremely sensitive and shy in some ways - fame doesn't interest him as much as being a musician.
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 Жыл бұрын
Lindsey Buckingham shy? He has an ego bigger than God! Every member of Fleetwood Mac clashed with his crazy, narcissistic self at some point, not just Stevie! Fact is he never forgave her for dumping him in 1976, and then becoming a huge star with way more natural charisma, star quality and stage presence than he had. No question he's an incredible musician - like EVERY member of Mac, that's what made them a supergroup. But there's no escaping the fact he was at the centre of pretty much every fight the band ever had.

Stevie has incredible star quality, charisma and stage presence. That's God-given, you can't manufacture it. It wasn't her fault the focus fell on her - she's a fabulous performer, and a star to her fingertips. It's disappointing Lindsey was narcissistic and petty enough to have such professional jealousy and rivalry with her - Stevie was not into it! She just wanted to get out there, do her best, and perform the best she possibly could. His anger with her was double edged - personal and professional. He never forgave her for ending their romantic relationship in 1976. But more than that, he couldn't forgive her for the magic she exuded onstage, that took the focus and praise from him. Wanna see the ultimate, big-league, off the scale narcissist? Look no further than Lindsey Buckingham! Over the decades, Lindsey's massively inflated ego caused frequent frictions and blow ups - and not only with Stevie! He did not mellow with the years, as proved when 'Fleetwood Mac' collectively got sick of his diva shit and fired him in 2018. Funny how some comments here reflect this dumb myth that Lindsey's 'the genius' of the group, 'Stevie would be nothing without him' etc - totally ignoring the fact she wrote a huge chunk of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits! She also has, arguably the most distinct and incredible voice of the group, and certainly the most magnetic stage presence. The reason Stevie Nicks' contribution to 'Fleetwood Mac' is downplayed and Lindsey Buckingham's is exaggerated? Sexism, plain and simple.

Lindsey packaged Stevie saying she is beautiful the lead singer and no one can see me … however he had his chance to prove it on his solo work but it never took off like Stevie’s did but I can see why he is upset it’s like putting your blood sweat and tears into something and this beautiful blonde gets 99% of the credit

It’s fair to say Lindsey is over his love with Stevie. It was what it was but people still like to assume he’s still in love with her.

If it wasn't for Lindsey Stevie Nicks would never be this big. I love Stevie I do.but Lindsey is one hell of a guitar player. If He didn't take Stevie along when they joined fm Stevie probably wouldn't be as big. I don't know what all went wrong in their personal life who cheated first..........But in every Video I see just about, she's dogging him. While he just sits back and asks cool lol. I respect Lindsey and Stevie. but she could at least say every once in a while He's a great man.

eville62 yeah she always whining about the injustice from other band members...maybe just does it to justify becoming the most famous member of the group? although she has admitted in past interviews that Lindsey's among others really helped shape and mold her little songs into something special....even in her solo work she has a team of clarifiers and musicians and producers who help her look great...but you know they say the way to success is to surround yourself with top people!

sadly she was singled out like that ,cause really they were all very talented,there was no one star,they all shone in this band,i think the money people do this,cause this jealouseys between them and it was great for them,they just want edthe moneybut they ruin good bands,they are a band ,not the stevie nicks show ,never was for me and my friends ,we liked the whole band,we love stevie ,lindsey,john,christine,mick all the same ,we are the fans of course,we are here cause we love there music

Back up, okay. She's the first and only female inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of fame 2 times, both with FM and now as a solo artist. I wouldn't call that back up to anyone.... Fine if she's not your favorite artist or her music doesn't connect with you, but that doesn't relegate her to back up status.

Flochavira Joseph Caranante They are both talented but she wrote so much more than Lindsay. I know. 🎶💗🎶.
