The Line 6 POD Express for guitar is a one-stop shop that's made with beginners in mind, but doesn't leave intermediate to advanced guitarists out of the picture. With limited knob fiddling, it's easy to dial in a wide array of solid tones without suffering from option fatigue. Plus, the bulk of the effects and amps are based on gear we know and love, like the MXR Phase 90 and an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer.
Featuring mono ins, stereo outs, a headphone jack, a USB-C port, and a TRS in/out, the Line 6 POD Express thought of nearly everything. Plug it into a computer and use it as an interface. Connect the USB-C to your phone and jam along to tracks. Leave it at rehearsal and keep your main board at home. Connect two TRS switches and build up to 21 presets and gig with it on the fly.
Those last two points are key in my eyes. 21 presets will get you through nearly any show you could play with the ability to dedicate a different preset to every song. Plus, the footswitches mean you can kick on distortion, modulation, delay, or reverb at key moments during a song or set. You can use either two separate footswitches or a single footswitch and volume pedal.
Did I mention there's a one-button looper? And a tuner?
Yes, the Line 6 POD Express was designed as "my first modeler," but that doesn't mean you'll immediately outgrow it. It's a stellar piece of gear that is great to keep around the house, in a rehearsal space, or in your gig back pocket as a back-up rig.

Hi! So if it’s a latch pedal, will it not work? Also what will be the difference because when you did the demo, it seems that when you pressed it, it stayed on even without you pressing the button. Your reply is highly appreciated! 🙂

Thanks you so much for this very helpful video especially the cab function and how to adjust the master/presence ,, because thats where i was stuck at ,, but knowing that this is a fairly brand new item for muscians ,, and the few different channels that did reviews of pod express so far were somewhat helpful also and i am greatful for those reviews too ,,but your review seemed to be the only one that mentioned and demoed the cab function and even displayed the names and a list of what cabs were being modeled ,, anyway thanks and ROCK ON !!!!

Cool demo, can see how I would use it just as a quick on the fly interface for loungeroom ideas recording but don't have much use for those effects, got a board going already. I would be oddly more drawn to the amp machine as a stand alone... thing, I like how you can turn the fizzy down, but can you turn it off?

The options to go ampless continue to get smaller and smaller, which is great. Some of the effects I thought sounded way better than others, but as an overall package, it definitely worth a look. Thanks for the in-depth video!

Can't we save a Delay level in a Preset, then add looper after calling up that Preset? Still waiting on mine can't test it yet. I'll probably get a volume and switch pedal so thanks for the external pedal demonstration. Not just for beginners, I'm a long time player living in a tiny seniors suite and this is perfect for my use case of playing quietly and some recording. I have BiasFX2&AMP/DAW and also a tiny Quilter Superblock UK (awesome Marshall gain tones), but I want some tangible pedal fx again without owning a ton of expensive pedals. This is easy, compact and fun and so cheap and still quality enough with HX lineage. And can turn off amp and cab to just use fx/looper, so handy.

That analog delay seems like a complex delay subdivision. I wonder what it is? Quarter and dotted eighth would be the stereotypical u2 delay.

Psyched to be hearing some more of this thing up front. Have mine on pre-order, after having had (and returned) the Boss IR-2. The Boss just didn‘t sound uncolored enough with my Fender Jazzmaster MiJ (Traditional Late 60s) tuned down to C# standard (my standard tuning). Sounded squashed and unreal, with an upper-mid honk - not at all like my guitar. Also colored my sound when in bypass (which I guess makes sense because it‘s only buffered bypass). Removing it from the chain entirely gave me back my authentic tone. Have high hopes the POD Express might do better, and also let me slap this on my pedalboard as an all-in-one solution for my Jazzmaster, leaving the rest of my pedalboard for acoustic guitar. That would be killer! :-) P.S. After watching the whole video: Yes!!! This looks like a real winner for my solo acoustic/electric shows! Can‘t wait to test it. And for Line6 to come out with a kind of similar box for acoustic(!).

I thought a Jazzmaster sounded pretty good with the Fender sims in some IR-2 reviews but then I don't own a JM so I have preconceptions. I back ordered then cancelled my Boss IR-2 as the wait was just too long for what it is. Then this POD Express popped up on reviews and it suits my use case better. Still waiting for mine, but not as long as for the Boss. Not a fan of some of the gain heavy default amp presets I've heard, so I'll be making my own (room for 21 user presets).

@@jimmyjames2022 Yeah, just about everybody got any guitar (including Jazzmasters) to sound great on the IR-2, but that doesn‘t mean the unit doesn‘t suck tone. Many may say it doesn‘t matter, but it doesn’t to me, especially since the IR-2 would sit in the same chain as my acoustic guitar (switched off, and still messing with my sound). Glad you are also going to give the Go Express a spin. Curious to compare notes with you when you get it. And I, too, will be making my own presets - primarily using clean and slightly crunchy settings with and without modulations and delays, punching those on or off using an external dual footswitch.

@@scottbecker3485 let us know how it goes with the podexpress. my podexpress feels "dark" (not as glassy as i like) unless you crank the highs way passed 50%, but then it gets brittle fast.

So I recorded this straight into my USB interface. If you mean like a live sound mixer, you may want to use a stereo DI box, but it should sound about the same.

Hah! They're totally different beasts. This is great for minimal fiddling and can be used for practice (silent and loud), recording, and live. The Katana go looks SICK and will probably replace the Mustang Micro in my uber-mobile rig.

You can get a podhd500x for under $200 on reverb. More amps, more effects, more presets, vocal processor, etc. it’s literally the predecessor to the helix, and sounds just as good for most basic sounds. I get the portability, but I’m not a fan.

I hear you have you be careful about checking the footswitches on those when buying them used. But, generally, I think those two products have very different audiences. POD Express is for folks who basically just want a few options with a blend knob, as well as something they can take on the go.

They definitely lean higher-gain, which isn't my bag, but I think you could probably shape something you like with EQ. Honestly, I wish I'd taken some more time to fine-tune the amps, but I didn't want to add too much time.

Factory presets favour gain. But some reviewers go deeper into adjusting all the various amps gain right down and they sound awesome. You have to make your own presets like with most of these multi fx.

Plastic case, looks like they will be difficult to see in darker settings and too much fiddling to be a good live rig set up. I'd be too afraid of breaking it during a gig.

If you use presets, I don't think seeing or fiddling is really going to be a problem. And the plastic feels robust enough tbh. I'd rather it not be plastic, but it doesn't feel particularly fragile.
